This wait lasted another hour or two. The long period of standing made their legs sore, but no one was willing to leave the yard.
Yun Qiao's voice became smaller and smaller, and weaker and weaker. The basins of water brought out from the room were all blood red. Yun Qiao's husband Zhang Chengping and others were in no time. They wanted to go in to see when the door was opened to change the water, but the midwife pushed them out, saying that the delivery room was bloody.
Yun Miao really couldn't help it. The aunt who went in to help was nervous for several hours, changing the water more than ten times, and was already exhausted by now.
Aunt Lin, who was holding the water, lost her balance and fell to the ground with the basin, spilling blood-red water all over the floor.
Yun Miao was so scared that she burst into tears and could hardly breathe, but she still cried and helped Aunt Lin who had fallen down to her feet. She could not even speak clearly, but just held Aunt Lin's hand tightly and called her Yun Qiao.
Yun Qiaoniang heard the noise, came out and took the basin of water, and asked Aunt Lin to take a rest and go to the kitchen to get a basin of hot water to wash off the dirt on her body. After all, this was all blood and it smelled very fishy.
Aunt Lin nodded and comforted Yun Miao. Yun Qiao Niang scolded Yun Miao, saying, "Stop crying. Qiao Er is fine in there. Why are you crying now? You're not causing more trouble. Take your Aunt Lin to wash up. Don't stand here."
Although Yun Qiao's mother was not particularly gentle in her daily life, she rarely spoke in such a harsh tone. However, when she thought about what the midwife had just said about Yun Qiao's baby's head being too big and that it might be difficult to give birth to, she was already extremely anxious. If she hadn't been afraid that others would see it and think too much, she would have wanted to cry like Yun Miao.
Yun Miao didn't want to cause more trouble, so she held back her tears and sobbed as she took Aunt Lin to the kitchen.
Yun Qiao has no parents-in-law, and her husband is anxiously pacing at the door. The only ones who can help boil water in the kitchen are the village chief Yun Decai and his younger brother Yunnian.
Yunnian was sitting in front of the stove, hugging Yunqiao's eldest son Zhang Ziming. Seeing that his second sister's eyes were red and Aunt Lin was soaked, he quickly got a basin of hot water to wipe their faces.
Aunt Lin's clothes are probably in a terrible condition. Regardless of whether they are clean or not, it is unlucky to tell others that they are covered in blood, which will bring bad luck to others.
Every aunt who came to help with the delivery would receive a gift of money, but it was definitely not enough to buy clothes. But now the house was in chaos and no one could take care of that.
Aunt Lin and the Yun family were not related in any way, and she was willing to work hard for her own children. Yun Decai felt guilty and took out sixty cents to subsidize Aunt Lin, which was enough for her to go to the town to buy cloth to make clothes.
Aunt Lin felt a little embarrassed, but Yun Decai forced her to accept it.
Yun Miao sat next to her and sobbed from time to time. Zhang Ziming was so emotional that he also pouted with her.
Yun Decai was about to scold her but swallowed the words back when he saw Yun Miao's pale face. He couldn't bear to scold the second girl who had been frightened for a long time.
Yun Nian's words of consolation were of no use. Instead, the tone of his voice began to tremble. He immediately shut his mouth and sat with Yun Miao in a daze.
The midwife in the room asked Yunqiao to push harder and harder, and finally someone shouted that the baby was out, but no crying was heard.
Such abnormality made Zhang Chengping's heart, which had just been relieved, suddenly rise again. He clung to the door frame and shouted loudly, asking what happened.
No one answered in the room, and there was another commotion until a few crisp snapping sounds were heard, followed by the loud cry of a newborn baby.
"I'm crying! I'm angry! I'm angry!"
Zhu Cuilan came out before the midwife and shouted excitedly: "It's born, it's a boy, it's a boy!"
The people in the kitchen finally heard the good news and all rushed to the yard.
Zhang Chengping anxiously pulled Zhu Cuilan and asked repeatedly: "Yunqiao, where is Yunqiao?"
Zhu Cuilan was holding a linen cloth for washing her hands, which were still stained with blood. Zhang Chengping shook her so hard that she almost couldn't stand. "Yunqiao is fine. She was just very tired and fell asleep. The midwife will bring the baby out to you soon. Don't worry."
Yun Miao took out her handkerchief to wipe Zhu Cuilan's hands, and kept thanking her.
Zhang Chengping breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that Yun Qiao was fine. His face was full of joy at having survived a disaster, and he quickly stuffed the wedding money he had prepared into Zhu Cuilan's hands.
Yun Decai's face was wrinkled with laughter, and he looked much younger. He said cheerfully, "Sister Cuilan, you've been tired. Go, Yunnian will pour your aunt a cup of hot tea."
The women in the room came out one after another, and Yun Decai and Zhang Chengping thanked them one by one and gave them money as gifts. Adding a new member to the family was a great joyous occasion, and everyone had a happy smile on their face.
The midwife walked at the end, holding the swaddled baby in her arms. The Yun family members all rushed over to see the newborn baby, but they did not dare to get too close. The baby was delicate and they were afraid that if they got too close, it would be bad for the baby to be squeezed and bumped.
From noon to late at night, Zhu Cuilan and the midwives had been on edge. Now that they relaxed, a feeling of fatigue washed over them, and they just wanted to find a place to lie down.
They had sweated all over in the house, and now they were shivering in the cold wind when they went out. They only felt warmer after drinking some hot tea.
The house was almost cleaned up, but Yunqiao was still resting. Too many people would make it noisy, and they just wanted to go home and have a good sleep.
As soon as Zhu Cuilan went out, she saw Zhao Luochuan and the other two standing under a tree. She asked in surprise, "Why are you here? It's so late and you haven't rested yet?"
Zhao Fangchu put the clothes on Zhu Cuilan, held her arm and walked back slowly.
"Auntie, how is Brother Yunqiao?"
"Oh, this birth was difficult, even more difficult than the last time. The baby's head was too big and couldn't come out. When it first came out, his whole body turned blue from being suffocated. He almost..."
