Chapter 295 Fan Yong’s New Year’s Gift
After spending some time with the two younger ones, Fan Yong knew they were extremely sensible and polite. He was afraid they wouldn't accept it if he didn't explain it clearly. "I've lived in your house for so long, it's not too much to give you a gift! You brothers all have one."
"Oh," Zhao Houyang responded, indicating that he understood, but he did not say whether he would accept it or not. Instead, he turned to look at Zhao Lingmeng.
Zhao Lingmeng felt that after spending over ten years together, they were friends, so giving the child a gift was only natural. "Take it! Your Uncle Fan's family is very wealthy! A meeting gift is only right."
When Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen saw that Zhao Lingmeng agreed, they immediately took the box happily.
“Thank you, Uncle Fan!”
"Thank you, Master Fan!"
Seeing this, Fan Yong placed the other two boxes in Zhao Houyang's hands. "These are for your two brothers. Can you keep them for them first?"
Seeing Zhao Houyang nod obediently, Fan Yong praised him, "You are really amazing!"
Although Zhao Houyang wouldn't get carried away by this, who doesn't like to hear good things? He would be happy if someone said good things about him.
Seeing that he had coaxed the two younger ones, Fan Yong handed the last box to Zhao Lingmeng.
This surprised Zhao Lingmeng, "I have one too?"
Fan Yong had regained his nonchalant demeanor. "If Your Highness accepts my gift, I hope you can charge me less for my medical expenses!"
"No, this will cover your food and lodging expenses while you're in the Princess's Mansion." Zhao Lingmeng felt she couldn't possibly reduce the cost of the medical bills for this guy. If she agreed to reduce the cost, Doctor Ma would raid her private vault again, and the landlord's family would have no more food left.
Fan Yong knew this would happen, but he didn't say anything about taking the gift back. He just muttered softly, "Hmph, so heartless!", but no one else heard it.
"Uncle Fan, can I open it and take a look?"
Zhao Houyang was very curious about this gift, but his mother had taught him that it was impolite to open gifts in front of others, so he asked Uncle Fan directly to see if he minded.
Fan Yong didn't care about it. For him, as long as the gift was given, it was fine. Whether the other party liked it or not was not up to him to decide.
"Sure, open it and see if you like it?"
Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen opened the box immediately after hearing the client's agreement. Inside was an emerald-grade jade pendant with gold trim, which looked very valuable.
Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen swallowed their saliva in frustration. Zhao Houyang looked at Zhao Lingmeng helplessly: "Mom, this is so valuable!"
When Yang Chengchen heard his cousin say this, he nodded in agreement.
Zhao Lingmeng was curious about the two of them, as they looked so naive, so she stood up and went over to take a look. The sight nearly blinded her, "It's quite valuable."
Zhao Lingmeng thought that something of this quality might not even be available in the emperor's private treasury. In her previous life, as the daughter of the richest man, she had only seen it a few times at auctions.
She first looked at Fan Yong suspiciously, then opened the gift boxes for Zhao Houjing and Zhao Houming. Theirs were slightly inferior to Zhao Houyang's, but judging by the quality, they weren't much different. Zhao Lingmeng guessed they were made from the same material.
Zhao Lingmeng opened her box again, and inside was a bracelet of the same style. Needless to say, it was of such high quality that even someone like her, who had seen good things before, fell in love with it at first sight.
"Master Fan is truly generous!"
Zhao Lingmeng was moved, but she couldn't possibly return such a good thing. Zhao Lingmeng felt that as a good friend, she could accept the gift, especially since she had saved his life!
The more Zhao Lingmeng thought about it, the more she felt that she really liked this gift.
Seeing that the two children in front of him were all obsessed with money, Fan Yong was also very happy. There is nothing better than giving a gift that others also like. It makes people happy: "Hahaha, as long as you like it, it's fine. I have traveled all over the country over the years, so I must have received many good things."
"You're so wealthy, yet you still want to sue me for medicine? What a swindler!" Zhao Lingmeng smiled broadly, but her words were still merciless. But after she finished speaking, she added, "In consideration of your gift, the kitchen will allow you to order some food. Consider this as your advance payment for living expenses!"
Fan Yong didn't argue with this duplicitous guy. Instead, he thanked him generously, "Thank you very much, Your Highness."
Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen were listening nearby and knew that such a valuable gift really belonged to them, as their mother/aunt had no intention of refusing to accept it.
Zhao Houyang also actively expressed his feelings, "Uncle Fan, when the time comes, I will tell you with my cousin what the best dishes are in the mansion. I guarantee that you will be full every meal."
Although Yang Chengchen didn't say anything, he smiled and nodded beside him, his eyes never leaving the jade pendant in his hand.
Zhao Lingmeng looked at the two children and felt inexplicably embarrassed. She wondered who these two little guys learned to be so money-obsessed from.
If Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen could hear Zhao Lingmeng's inner voice, they would definitely whisper, "Mother/Aunt, please stop smiling! Your smile is so worthless."
Fan Yong had no idea that His Highness had already thought so much about this. He looked at Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen's attentive expressions and bowed to them politely. "Then I'll trouble you two to take care of me these days!"
Fan Yong's behavior actually made Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen feel embarrassed. They both touched their heads at the same time, and then said a little embarrassedly, "Okay, okay."
Fan Yong didn't know it at the time, but because of his encouragement, he would one day receive a food book about Princess Funing's mansion, written by Zhao Houyang and Yang Chengchen. It was the kind where one of them wrote about how delicious it was and the other drew pictures. The book focused on comprehensive and detailed descriptions.
They then chatted for a while about all sorts of things before going back to rest. Zhao Houyang, however, lingered until the very end before following Zhao Lingmeng.
Zhao Lingmeng looked at the little tail Zhao Houyang behind him and asked curiously, "Why are you following me instead of going to sleep?"
"I miss my brother, do you miss me, Mom?"
Zhao Lingmeng listened to Zhao Houyang's aggrieved voice and burst out laughing. "I don't want to. Your two brothers wrote letters to mother and bought me a New Year's gift."
Just as Zhao Lingmeng finished boasting, she heard Zhao Houyang's high-pitched voice. Zhao Lingmeng felt like her ears were almost deafened: "Huh? Why don't I have a letter? Why don't I have a gift?"
