Chapter 46 Dinner for a Family of Four
Sun Tu saw that Zhao Lingmeng was sitting there with no intention of getting down, so he poured her a glass of water and handed it to her.
Zhao Lingmeng didn't hesitate to take it and drank a few sips before putting it on the small table next to him.
"Let's have dinner here!"
"Yeah!" Sun Tu simply responded, and for a moment he had nothing to say.
However, before they could remain awkward for long, they heard the sounds of Sun Qijing and Sun Qiming coming in from outside. The two little guys were calling for their mother from a distance.
Not long after hearing the sound, Sun Qijing and Sun Qiming ran in like a gust of wind.
They were both planning to run straight to Mom, as they had been doing lately, but halfway through, they saw Dad sitting there with a book in his hands.
The two of them performed a sudden braking act, and after finally standing steady, they saluted quietly and called out, "Dad!"
Sun Tu hadn't seen them for over a month, so he was happy to see them so energetic. He patted their heads, showing his affection.
Sun Qijing was fine. Although he still didn't want to pay attention to his father, it was mostly out of spite. Sun Qiming really didn't want Sun Tu to touch him, but Zhao Lingmeng stopped him with her eyes, so he could only reluctantly let Sun Tu touch his head.
As soon as Sun Tu finished touching her, he ran away like a little rabbit. He immediately ran to Zhao Lingmeng's chaise longue and asked, "Mom, what are we having for dinner?"
This question is now Sun Qijing and Sun Qiming's favorite question. They look forward to eating every day. When Sun Qiming asked this, Sun Qijing immediately raised his head and looked at Zhao Lingmeng. Anyone could see the anticipation on his face.
Sun Tu was quite surprised. The relationship between his mother and his daughter had become so good in the past few months! Thinking back to when Sun Qijing saw his mother before, he wanted to turn around and run away. Now, he felt a sense of change rising from his heart.
Zhao Lingmeng looked at the expressions of the two brothers and found it a little funny. "What do you two little pigs want to eat tonight?"
They didn't mind their mother calling them that. To be more precise, they did mind it at first. Now they were just throwing in the towel. No matter how they protested, their mother wouldn't listen. Maybe that's what she meant when she said children don't have a say! If only they could grow up immediately, they could have whatever they wanted to eat.
Thinking about these things is just overthinking. Now they just want to think about what to eat in the evening. When their mother asked for their opinions, they both said beef without hesitation.
Zhao Lingmeng looked at the two animals in front of her with amusement, then shook her head as they stared at her expectantly. "Beef isn't something you can buy just because you want it. Big Brother, Second Brother, let me tell you, cattle are very important to the common people. They rely on them to plow the fields, so killing cattle is forbidden in Jing State."
The beef we can buy comes from cows that died of old age or in accidents. So we can’t eat beef often.”
"Okay, then we won't eat beef. Can we eat the roast duck you mentioned the other day?" Sun Qijing was a smart little guy who knew how to negotiate conditions.
When Sun Qiming heard his brother say this, he also echoed, "No more beef, let's eat duck."
"It's roast duck, idiot."
"My brother is the idiot." Sun Qiming felt that his brother was so annoying. He always found fault with him.
Just like that, Sun Qijing and Sun Qiming started talking back and forth. Suddenly, it was as if there were hundreds of ducks quacking in the room.
"Are they like this every day now?" Sun Tu looked at the two naughty kids running around the room, feeling very confused and wanting to ask what was wrong with the world.
Zhao Lingmeng looked at the two little ones she had raised, who were becoming more and more cheerful, and nodded proudly, "Aren't they cute?"
"So Madam likes this!" Sun Tu said thoughtfully.
The atmosphere between them at this moment was like two people who were somewhat acquainted, discussing a child. It was as if the tension of the past was gone. Zhao Lingmeng was indeed open-minded, treating it as if they were raising a child together.
Zhao Ling dreamed of the two little guys running back and forth for so long without stopping, so he could only say, "Stop arguing, both of you! Hurry up and let Madam wash her hands! Otherwise, there will be no roast duck to eat."
When Sun Qijing and Sun Qiming heard that they could really eat roast duck, they instantly quieted down. They obediently went to let Nanny Wu wash their hands. After washing, they sat obediently beside the table, waiting for dinner to be served.
Sun Tu felt stunned.
"Mom, how did you know that my brother and I wanted to eat roast duck?" Sun Qiming sat obediently, but turned to look at his mother in confusion.
Sun Qijing was also quite curious and stared at Zhao Lingmeng intently.
"When I was telling you two about roast duck that day, you two little pigs almost drooled. Everyone knows that you two want to eat it!" Zhao Lingmeng found it funny when she looked at these two little guys. Now they have become two foodies because of her.
When Sun Qijing and Sun Qiming heard their mother say this, they felt a little embarrassed and turned around, pretending to watch Qiuyue and the others serve the dishes.
Zhao Lingmeng looked at their backs with amusement. They were so young, yet they knew how to hide their true intentions. What clever little fellows they were!
"Master Sun, go wash your hands and get ready for dinner." Zhao Lingmeng looked at Sun Tu who was still sitting, and complained in her heart that this man had no sense at all.
When Sun Tu heard what his wife said, he immediately stood up to wash his hands, then found a place to sit and wait for dinner to start.
The two little guys looked at Sun Tu and then at Zhao Lingmeng, their eyes full of curiosity. They were both thinking that Dad had been forgiven by Mom! They were both a little curious about what Dad had done, but unfortunately, neither of them dared to ask.
After the dishes were served, Zhao Lingmeng first wrapped a roast duck for each of the two little ones. Then she wrapped one for herself and took a big bite. She felt so comfortable. It was this taste that made her feel so comfortable.
Seeing this, Sun Tu also followed Zhao Lingmeng's example and wrapped one for himself. He took a big bite and his mouth was filled with the taste of fat but not greasy. It was very delicious.
The two little ones had already finished one, and they both started wrapping their own dumplings, which was incredibly fast. For a while, the room was filled with the sound of eating, and no one spoke.
When they were all full, most of the dishes on the table were eaten. The four of them slumped in their chairs, all looking stuffed. Even someone like Sun Tu, who didn't like eating, was stuffed to death. At this time, Sun Tu had only one thought in his mind: the food in the lady's courtyard was so delicious!
