Chapter 117 Prelude to Returning Home
Zhao Lingmeng worked with everyone to make the weapons, so she didn't have to worry about the rest. Deputy Commander Fan would definitely report the matter to the higher authorities, so she decided to spend a few days with the children.
But sometimes adults just take themselves too seriously. Zhao Houjing and Zhao Houming hadn't noticed Zhao Lingmeng's thoughts these past few days. Every morning, they'd go check on their two small vegetable plots. Now, they both treasured their own plots so much that they wouldn't let anyone touch them.
Whenever I cook the greens from their garden, the brothers enjoy them, but not the ones picked from other places. I don't know why.
After inspecting the vegetable patch, the Zhao Houjing brothers returned to have breakfast with Zhao Lingmeng, then went out to play. They had absolutely no desire to play with their mother even though she was home. Zhao Lingmeng saw they had no such desire, so she didn't force them. So, every time they finished eating and put down their chopsticks, they'd ask their mother if she had anything else to do. Zhao Lingmeng would say no, and they'd bow and go out to play.
Zhao Lingmeng was left alone for a moment, feeling melancholy. It seemed that sometimes it wasn't the children who couldn't live without the adults, but the adults who couldn't live without the children. Zhao Lingmeng adjusted her mindset and then resumed her daily routine, occasionally visiting her vegetable patch.
Although the vegetables are not as good as the two little ones, she still feels very accomplished. The main reason is that she has been busy recently and has no time to take care of the vegetable garden, so the vegetables are not as good as the three little ones. This is the only way for her to comfort herself.
Zhao Lingmeng relaxed for a few days before packing up and preparing to return home. After all, as a princess, she had to attend a banquet at the palace during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This was her first public appearance since being named a princess, and she definitely had to attend, otherwise everyone would mistakenly think she was unworthy of the title.
But Zhao Houjing and Zhao Houming were unhappy. They were reluctant to leave the mountains and rivers here, and most importantly, they were reluctant to leave their vegetable plots. They looked like they were going to say goodbye to their vegetable plots forever. Zhao Lingmeng also found it a bit difficult to deal with.
"Mom, can we not go back?" Zhao Houming looked at Zhao Lingmeng with expectant eyes.
"Of course you can. You are here alone. Mom and your younger brother and older brother will go back. When we have time, Mom and your older brothers and sisters will come to see you again." Zhao Lingmeng would not spoil this little guy. He was the one who let himself go the most during this period.
"Forget it, I'd better go back with mom! My brother will miss me if I don't go back." After hearing what his mother said, Zhao Houming quickly found a way out for himself, the kind that no one could refute.
Zhao Lingmeng pinched his face and said with a smile: "You are bullying your brother because he can't speak now. When he can speak in the future, he won't have to take the blame for you."
Zhao Houming was still young and didn't understand what his mother meant by "taking the blame." He thought about it for a while but couldn't figure it out, so he gave up. Anyway, just like his mother said, he would understand when he grew up.
Then he continued to ask, "Mom, if we all go back, what will happen to our vegetable garden?"
"When we get back, can you two choose a place in the mansion to plant it?" This was the only solution Zhao Lingmeng had at the moment. As for moving the vegetable garden back home, she didn't want to think about it.
"But..." Zhao Houming wanted to say something, but was ruthlessly interrupted by Zhao Lingmeng. "But what? You two go and pull up all the vegetables you planted, and cook them for you tonight. We'll go back tomorrow."
"Then we want to go to Master Wu's place for dinner today. That way we can ask Wu Zhonghui to help pick vegetables, and then we can eat the vegetables we grow ourselves in the evening." Zhao Houming saw that other conditions were not feasible, so he could only fight for this condition.
Zhao Lingmeng agreed to this condition without hesitation. She wasn't going to spoil her son's fun by having dinner with his friends! "I'll have the chef at the Princess Mansion cook for you guys tonight. We'll also make you three a roast duck and braised pork. I can't let you two lose face in front of your friends!"
When Zhao Houming's mother heard that she could ask the cook at the Princess's Mansion to make it, she jumped up and down with joy, shouting, "Mom, you're the best!"
Even Zhao Houjing, who was standing next to him, had a smile on his face, and it was obvious that he was happy too. However, Zhao Houjing's emotions were much more reserved. Zhao Lingmeng didn't force it. Everyone has their own personality, and there's no need for everyone to be the same or cheerful.
"Okay, you two go call your friends to come and help pick the flowers! Mom is going to pack up." Why didn't Zhao Lingmeng go to pick her piece? Of course, she knew she had to go back. She had been picking some every day for the kitchen to cook and eat these days, and now it was all gone.
When Zhao Houjing and Zhao Houming heard their mother's order, they ran off hand in hand. Zhao Ling dreamed that the two little guys had run away, so he told the people around him to prepare dinner. After all, they would be eating big dishes in the evening, so they had to order it in advance.
After Zhao Lingmeng finished giving the instructions, she took Zhao Houyang from Aunt Wu and said, "You will be the only one to accompany me for dinner tonight."
Zhao Houyang made a few "ah" sounds to show his agreement, and Zhao Lingmeng carried him into the study. She wanted to watch Chunqing and the others sort out the data, fearing that if there was any omission, it would be a fatal matter.
Zhao Lingmeng lived a harmonious and happy life, but Sun Tu was not so lucky. He had been divorced by the Emperor, so he took his servants and sister and returned to his clan. He had originally planned to take his mother back to a remote county and live a peaceful life as a county magistrate.
But the first thing that happened was not smooth sailing. He returned to the clan and wanted to take Zhou with him, but Sun Tu's grandmother, Ma, refused to let him. Although Sun Tu's grandmother was old, she had not suffered much in recent years because her eldest son was the clan leader and her health was still strong.
Ma hated Zhou to death. She felt that her second son had died long ago, leaving behind Sun Tu as her offspring, but Zhou had ruined him. She would never allow Zhou to harm her grandson again. Especially when Sun Tu told them that his children were all born to Zhao Lingmeng and had changed their surnames, Ma hated Zhou even more.
Ma even threatened that if Sun Tu forced Zhou to take her with him, she would sue Zhou for disrespecting her mother-in-law. Regardless of how the clan leader and Sun Tu tried to persuade her, Ma refused to give in. Time dragged on and on. Sun Tu's appointment was time-limited, and the journey was long.
So Sun Tu had no choice but to compromise, thinking that he would come back to pick up his mother when he had the chance. He could only take his sister away first. Oh, he also took the pregnant Wang Xiaoyi with him. Anyway, he didn't have any children now, so he still wanted to have one.
As for what kind of drama Wang Xiaoyi will stage with his future wife in the future, that is not something Sun Tu can consider at this moment.
As soon as Sun Tu left, Zhou's hard times began. In the past, when Ma tormented her, she still had some consideration for Sun Tu, but now Ma only hated her daughter-in-law. It can only be said that these two people are not good people.
