Ke Meiyu chuckled and made a shushing gesture at them. Then, she carefully took the bamboo baskets off the children's backs and tossed them over one after another like rings, each one landing on a plump, juicy wild duck that had no time to react!
The rest of the wild ducks were startled and frantically flapped their wings, flying into the sky and circling anxiously, quacking loudly.
“Each of you will get a wild duck. Tie them up with a rope. If they fly away, Aunt Yu won’t be responsible!” Ke Meiyu raised her chin. “Oh, and if they make a sound on the way back and are discovered and confiscated, Aunt Yu won’t care either!”
The children nodded repeatedly, and after Ke Meiyu untied the rope, they couldn't wait to each grab a bamboo basket.
Then they opened the bamboo basket a little, held their breath and waited. When the wild duck poked its head out, they sat down hard on the bamboo basket, instantly sending the wild duck to heaven.
The children hugged their bamboo baskets with great interest, their mouths watering as they looked at the plump wild ducks.
Ke Meiyu strung the children together again, explained the rules, and then led them to collect wild duck eggs.
There are many wild duck nests, and each nest contains quite a few eggs, ranging from seven or eight to more than twenty.
The children took turns collecting eggs, taking only half from each nest, and soon everyone's bamboo basket was full.
Seeing that there were still many nests to be explored, the children were unwilling to give up. So, using the reed leaves, they wove many more straw bags, filled them with a string of wild duck eggs, and tied them to their waists. The wild duck eggs were wrapped in thick reed leaves, which not only protected the eggs but also made them less likely to be discovered by others!
The children weren't afraid of the weight at all. They left reluctantly, looking back every few steps, until their bodies were covered with straw bags. They didn't even have time to roast wild duck eggs.
As the only adult, Ke Meiyu naturally reaped more rewards: four plump wild ducks and a whole bamboo basket full of wild duck eggs!
As darkness fell, Ke Meiyu steadily led them back to the path.
Emerging from the reeds, the group breathed a sigh of relief, untied the ropes, and hurried home with joyful steps.
Ke Meiyu suddenly stopped walking, hearing the sound of splashing water not far away. A short while later, two dark figures hurriedly ran away, whispering for help.
She pursed her lips and put down the basket. "Someone might have drowned. You wait here while I go check on them."
The children were covered in duck eggs, and they walked awkwardly like penguins.
The eldest child looked around, then hid the basket and the duck eggs on his back, along with Ke Meiyu's, in the reeds. "I'll go check it out. Half of you stay and watch the things, and the other half go home and call for help!"
After saying that, he jogged off to chase after the person.
In less than half a minute, Ke Meiyu had darted to the riverbank. The river was swift in this area, with one tributary nourishing the reeds and the other gurgling forward. There were countless stones and algae along the way. It had rained a few days ago, and the river was in full swing.
Meanwhile, in the middle of the river, a young man was clinging tightly to a rock, his body rising and falling with the current. As the water kept rushing towards his nose and mouth, he began to lose consciousness. Suddenly, his hand slipped, and he drifted downstream without any struggle, like a straw!
Ke Meiyu pounced on him without any hesitation.
She is a speed-type ability user. Her physical abilities are honed through repeated use of her powers, and even though she just took over this body, she is already comparable to special forces soldiers.
Just as Ke Meiyu grabbed the person, a mechanical voice suddenly appeared in her mind.
She paused, not having time to discern what the thing was saying, and grabbed the person by the collar, rowing them ashore in a few strokes.
After putting the man down, Ke Meiyu, following common sense, personally took action to provide him with basic first aid.
Fortunately, she arrived in time. After her efforts, the man slowly opened his eyes.
After a few seconds of confusion, the man's handsome face turned gloomy, his eyes were full of murderous intent, and his whole body exuded an almost solidified killing intent that was hard to suppress!
Even Ke Meiyu subconsciously loosened her grip and took a half-step back. Then, she stood up angrily, hands on her hips, and said:
"Hey, look closely, I'm your savior!"
The man lowered his eyelids, instantly eliminating any trace of his usual aura, and said in a hoarse, hard voice, "Thank you."
Ke Meiyu then crossed her arms and snorted coldly, "Forget it, I didn't save people just because of your thank you."
"You need to be more careful in the future. How could someone your age almost drown?"
The man was good-looking; his hair was wet and stuck to his forehead, but it didn't affect his handsomeness at all.
His skin had a sickly pale complexion, his features were handsome and well-defined, and his body was tall and thin. Ke Meiyu, who had dragged people ashore and taken emergency measures, knew very well what kind of explosive body was wrapped under his clothes!
He truly looks like a handsome man who stepped out of an anime.
Even Ke Meiyu, who had seen many handsome men, couldn't help but feel her heart skip a beat and turned her face away to restrain herself from being attracted by male hormones.
It's as if she's stepped into the 1970s. The heavy family responsibilities on her shoulders and the suffocating love of the big boss all recede like the tide. She is truly an innocent eighteen-year-old girl who has no dreams of the future and lives freely and unrestrainedly.
These days, they're even experiencing the pangs of first love like young girls...
"Aunt Yu," Radish Head No. 1 finally caught up, bending over and panting heavily with a look of relief and lingering fear on his face.
Aunt Yu can't swim at all, let alone save someone; she'd be lucky if she didn't lose her life.
Ke Meiyu coughed guiltily and patted the rope wrapped around her waist. "Don't worry, I used the rope to put him up here."
Anyway, the person was completely unconscious at the time, and there was no one else around, so she could just make things up as she pleased.
"Comrade Qin, is that you?" Radish Head No. 1 asked in surprise.
Ke Meiyu then turned her head to rummage through the original owner's memories. Oh ho, isn't this Comrade Qin who witnessed the female lead falling into the water?
His name seems to be Qin Yuanjiu. He was sent to Luofeng Village for reform three years ago. Because he had someone in charge, although he lived in a cowshed, his other treatment was not much different from that of the educated youth.
At least they wouldn't be like the people living in cowsheds in other villages, who would be dragged through the streets and criticized from time to time.
He was gloomy and withdrawn, rarely interacting with the villagers, and was like an invisible person with a very low profile.
Qin Yuanjiu nodded, "Little classmate, I twisted my leg. Could you please take me home?"
Children in the countryside run and jump all day long, and they grow tall quickly. An eight-year-old is already 1.45 meters tall!
Carrot Head Number One scratched his head, stepped forward and took Qin Yuanjiu's arm as a crutch, and swayed as they walked out.
As soon as we stepped out of the reeds, a large group of people came rushing toward us noisily.
The group in the lead consisted of Ke Meiyu's five tall and strong brothers. "Little sister, you're getting bolder and bolder!"
They dare to venture even into the reed marshes!
