Once Ke Meiyu develops a strong interest in something, she has a stubbornness and determination that won't give up even if she hits a wall. Even when she's working on a radio show with someone, she can still incorporate that interest into her work.
She is very capable, speaks foreign languages fluently, and most importantly, she doesn't have the arrogance of city people. She gets along well with her colleagues and is also a great gossipmonger.
She doesn't like to share gossip, at most she'll share it with her family, especially the old lady. Most of the time, she listens attentively with great interest, her eyes sparkling, giving gossipers a sense of accomplishment.
Of course, being around gossipy people means that even trivial news from Ke Meiyu's family can spread.
So, a colleague had to take leave due to a family matter and asked Ke Meiyu to cover for her.
This is an emotional support program where a male and female partner answer calls, help solve various problems, and incidentally cook some chicken soup and play some nice music.
Because it's filled with so many everyday family stories, it's actually quite popular.
As soon as Ke Meiyu came out, many people couldn't wait to rush to the nearest phone, wanting to talk to someone, even if there was no problem, just getting a word or two of guidance would be good.
After all, she can be considered a celebrity, even though she hasn't shown her face much. However, her voice is highly recognizable, and many people can recognize her at a glance.
Moreover, she is quite adept at solving problems, getting straight to the point, so many things don't escalate into a big mess.
The ten or so phone calls took up half an hour. During a break, the host couldn't help but laugh and say, "I heard that Yu Bao'er's five little ones are already in kindergarten?"
Once everyone got to know each other well, they stopped being so polite with all the "comrade" and "comrade" greetings. Instead, they started calling each other "Yu Bao'er" so naturally that they couldn't stop.
Ke Meiyu smiled and replied, "Although they are not even two years old, they are too noisy. Everyone in the family is at work, so we can't really leave them with the elderly at home, can we?"
"So we sent them to the kindergarten to cause trouble. To prevent them from tearing the roof off the kindergarten, each child went to a separate class."
"Haha, usually multiple births are raised together, in the same class from childhood, or even as deskmates. It's rare to see a mother like you who separates them from kindergarten." The host said something that resonated with many people.
Ke Meiyu also laughed and said, "Just because they are twins, they do everything together and forget that they have independent personalities."
"Everyone hopes to have a twin sister or brother who can always be with them, so they won't be lonely and will have a confidant. But when you actually have such a sister or brother, while others envy you, you will also have the same worries."
"Why is everyone else unique, while I have a mirror? When making choices, the more we discuss and compromise with each other, the more we bury our own personalities."
"I hope the children can grow up happily. Although they are quintuplets, each of them has their own path to walk, and they chose it themselves, not blindly following the crowd because of the influence of their siblings."
After exchanging parenting tips, the host asked her what she was busy with if she wasn't taking care of her child.
Ke Meiyu said that she wanted to start a university for senior citizens.
Fang Jinyuan was very efficient in his work. Before long, he contacted the person in charge of the Cultural Palace and asked Ke Meiyu and Ying Yan to discuss the matter with the person.
Ying Yan immediately said that he wanted the Cultural Palace to have independent management and operation rights.
It's already the 1980s, and things are no longer strictly governed by rules and regulations; everything is done in the interest of the people and for the sake of development.
The director of the cultural and sports department was also having a headache over this matter. When he heard that they wanted it, he wanted to get rid of the hot potato, but he was afraid that he would be unfair to the younger generation. So he emphasized first: "The cultural palace is not easy to reopen. Many families are watching. If you arrange for this person to go in, they will make a fuss. They want to find out the ancestors of the person you arranged to go in. They won't even dare to go to work."
"There are only so many positions available, how can you arrange them?"
Ying Yan smiled and said that this was no problem. As long as they obtained the independent management and operation rights of the Cultural Palace, everything would be fine. They could take it one step at a time.
"Alright, but I have one condition. If you meet it, I'll let you take over," the director said through gritted teeth, pacing around the room several times with his teacup in hand.
Ying Yan and Ke Meiyu exchanged a glance, waiting for him to continue.
"Since you've taken over the Cultural Palace again, you'll definitely need to recruit staff. My suggestion is to select from the families of residents in the four compounds. We should resolve these job issues one by one; we can't let outsiders benefit from our own work, can we?"
"Don't worry about that," Ying Yan said with a smile, "We opened the cultural center to serve the elderly."
"Yes, I will report the situation to the higher-ups. The funds that are due will definitely not be less. There will also be rewards for doing a good job. Other places, especially the cultural palaces run by various factories, are thriving, but our place is deserted and covered with cobwebs."
"If it weren't for the cultural troupe coming to perform for us every now and then, we really wouldn't have any entertainment here."
When discussing this matter, Ke Meiyu didn't hide anything and spoke directly about it.
The host was taken aback. "A university for seniors? Seniors can go to university?"
He then voiced what everyone was thinking.
"Why not? The elderly have worked hard for most of their lives. Now that they are retired, their children are going to school, getting married and having children of their own. They will then have to take care of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
"Shouldn't they have time to rest and relax, and also have things they enjoy doing?"
