Later, some things happened to the Qin family. The old man passed away, and Ying Yan was sent to the countryside as an educated youth. This caused quite a stir, and of course, some people also looked on with glee.
When the young people returned from the countryside, many people wanted to step forward and kick them while they were down, thinking that no matter how capable they were, what position could a junior without any connections possibly reach?
If Ling Yifei had even a shred of respect for the Qin family, she wouldn't have done what she did. Even a fallen camel is bigger than a horse; though people may forget about you after you've left, the sheer amount of kindness the Qin family has accumulated is enough to drive someone mad.
"Auntie, you know our family situation. Although we haven't separated and are all crammed together, we're not united, and we're just barely getting by. When you have free time, go visit the neighbors across the street more often. Don't worry about what they think. As long as my husband and I are still here, we'll never let you go hungry."
Aunt Ling pondered for a moment, then spoke to Aunt Lu. She didn't know how good her family's relationship with the Qin family was, but at least they interacted as normal neighbors.
If she didn't focus her energy on men, work, children, and relationships, she would be driven crazy by her family of dozens of people.
Aunt Lu nodded with a smile, "That's what I was planning to do too. During those few days at the hospital, the old lady from that family had a good temper and got along with me. Even if you didn't say anything, I would still visit her often."
“The end of the year is coming in a few days, and many communes down there will be slaughtering pigs. I’ll have my son run around and buy more pork so we can continue making sausages and send some to the neighbors across the street.”
"Yes, Auntie, you can arrange it. If anything happens, just let me know. If it's urgent, you can come to my workplace to find me," Aunt Ling couldn't help but add.
She always felt that there was something strange about her newly adopted niece, and the longer they spent together, the more obvious this strangeness became.
Ke Meiyu and the old lady looked at each other in bewilderment at home. "Grandma, how come we keep running into Ling Yifei everywhere we go? She opened a shop three stores away from us outside the school, she was in the same ward as us when she gave birth at the hospital, and now she's moved right across the street from us."
"She probably wants to see us even less than we do, right?"
Although she didn't know why Ke Enshu was adopted before, and why she was adopted by the Ling family, it was probably due to the protagonist's halo.
The only problem is that the female lead's aura isn't very strong. In the novel, the relatives she's reunited with are all top-tier figures, but the Ling family is only of average status, and their family affairs are a complete mess, which is incredibly annoying just thinking about it.
Ironically, the female lead lives very comfortably and finds endless joy in battling with others.
Grandma Ke was also very frustrated, "Why is it so hard to see her with the same bitter face as her mother?"
"I don't want to see her all the time."
Who can argue with that?
Although Old Master Qin has passed away, when people mention Ying Yan, they still habitually refer to him as the Qin family.
The Qin and Ling families were separated by only a two-meter-wide cement road and a half-meter-wide fence. It was just a few steps to their doorsteps, and the yards were behind their houses. So the two families were not far apart, and as long as the doors and windows were wide open and people spoke loudly, they could all be heard.
The Qin family's house had been renovated, and its style was different from other houses, with some of the floor-to-ceiling windows of later generations.
They could see people peering out of their windows from their homes. The Ling family was large, and they were all curious about the Qin family's affairs; they were all peeking out one after another, which was incredibly unsettling!
Whenever the family cooks something delicious, the boys and girls, both grown up, come running over, wanting to borrow this or that. They just stare longingly at the table, and won't budge unless they ask for it.
At first, the old lady was too embarrassed to give people food, but then it was like flipping a switch; the number of people who came for the next meal doubled!
It's like your home is being constantly monitored. The winter sun doesn't have much penetrating power, and drawing the curtains in broad daylight makes the whole house somewhat dark, which puts people in a bad mood.
Ying Yan opened the window directly, holding a mirror in one hand and a flashlight in the other. The people opposite were initially curious, but then their eyes were almost blinded by the bright light.
For a long time, all they could see was a dim light. Knowing that the other side was unhappy, they hid behind the curtains, their eyes like electronic eyes from later generations.
The old lady was filled with resentment and opened the door to leave.
Fearing something might happen, Ke Meiyu went along.
"Who is it?" There are always people in the house, but Aunt Lu is always the one who opens the door, as if it makes her feel important.
Wiping the water off her apron, Aunt Lu opened the door and saw the old lady and Ke Meiyu. She smiled and invited them in.
Grandma Ke's face was also not good and she kept pulling at me. I asked, "Where is your mother? The weather has been bad lately, and I haven't been able to go out for several days. I feel uncomfortable all over at home, so I came to visit."
Aunt Lu, unsuspecting, smiled and said, "Please wait a moment." She turned and walked towards the old lady's room.
The rest of the family gathered around, all knowing who the visitor was.
It's neither a weekend nor a holiday. Those who can stay at home are either children who haven't gone to school, or those who couldn't continue their studies and are unemployed, or those who don't have a job and are too proud to take odd jobs or do manual labor.
"Oh dear, this is the first time I've ever seen such an uncouth family. They come empty-handed on their first visit. Who do they think they are? Or is it that they lack manners?" A woman holding a baby curled her lip, her sarcastic and mean-spirited manner making no attempt to hide it.
"Exactly! Your family eats so much meat and fish every day, why don't you think of bringing us some? Is this how neighbors treat each other? Shouldn't they cook something nice and share it with their neighbors?"
"You even accepted my sister's cookies! Ugh, that's like feeding a dog!"
The children, one by one, started barking fiercely, just like Er Gouzi.
