The Zhao family members all hid inside the house, leaving the door slightly ajar, peeking out to inquire about the news.
At this moment, Madam Zhao could no longer hold back. She pushed open the door and walked out, saying, "Dad, I've heard some things about the Ling family."
Grandpa Zhao turned his head to look at her, not saying a word, but pretending to listen.
Madam Zhao was slightly pleased with herself, but she said respectfully, "The Ling family originally lived in the North Compound, but because there were too many people, they exchanged houses and moved to the South Compound."
“The person living across the street from their house is Ke Meiyu, the supervisor of your senior university.”
"It's funny to say, but the Ling family adopted a granddaughter back then, who was entrusted to them when she was a child. That granddaughter was Ke Meiyu's cousin. For some reason, the Ling family said that this granddaughter was fake, and that the real one was Ke Meiyu, who also happened to have a butterfly birthmark on her left shoulder."
"The Ling family is so tasteless and shameless. Everyone avoids them and doesn't want to be bothered by them."
"Ke Meiyu's boyfriend is a tough character. He intimidated the Ling family, and the matter would have been settled. But the old lady of the Ling family was not happy. She called Ke Meiyu's show, which happened to be live. Everyone saw that Ke Meiyu does not have a birthmark on her shoulder!"
"So, sir, don't let yourself be bewitched after spending a few days with someone. Ke Meiyu can't possibly be our family's granddaughter."
"Besides, Madam Shi has no reason to lie. Whether our granddaughter is alive or dead is none of their responsibility. We just need to find her."
"Look how badly you've smashed Director Shi's clothes! How are people supposed to go to work tomorrow?"
Shi Jingpei let out a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "It's alright. I haven't been scolded by the old man in a long time since I changed jobs. Not to mention that I used to feel uncomfortable at work, but now I feel great."
"It seems that from now on, I'll have to visit the old man often and have him tap me a few times with his cane. That way, I won't go astray without your supervision."
The two of them sang in unison, acting as if he didn't exist.
The old man stood up and looked at Shi Jingpei indifferently, "You'd better go home and ask your wife what she's been doing behind your back. Think it over before you come back."
Shi Jingpei shuddered inwardly, responded, and left.
As soon as he stepped out the door, he touched the bump on his forehead. Good heavens, it was probably protruding two or three centimeters. That old guy was really ruthless.
If it had been an iron bar, he would probably be lying on the ground by now. I wonder if there will be any aftereffects from being hit like this by the old man.
He didn't dare delay and went to the nearest clinic first.
There are hospitals near the four major hospitals, but they treat more serious illnesses. Normally, if people have a headache or fever, they like to go to a clinic first, and only go to the hospital if the clinic can't help.
The clinic is run by an elderly gentleman with excellent medical skills. He originally worked at a military hospital, but after retiring, he came here to practice medicine, earn money, and mentor a few apprentices.
Since it's a clinic, there are nurses inside, both young and rehired. As long as there are women, gossip can spread like wildfire to the four major hospitals.
It was midday, and there weren't many people in the clinic. He came in, clutching his head and looking pained. After putting his hand down, he sat down at the examination table and said, "Uncle Han, please take a look at my head."
Mr. Han quickly put on his reading glasses, glanced at the screen briefly, and before he could say anything, everyone around him gasped.
Shi Jingpei sits in the office all day. His once tanned, muscular physique has long been worn away by time, leaving only a chubby white blob. The bump on his forehead has turned a dark purple, resembling a huge beetle crawling on his head, which is quite frightening.
"What's going on? Can you really hit someone's head so easily? What if they get injured or even become mentally impaired?" The crowd began to discuss among themselves.
Shi Jingpei gave a wry smile: "I just didn't catch the time when Grandpa Zhao was in a good mood, but I'm thick-skinned and used to it. It's just that Grandpa's health is getting worse year by year, and I'm afraid he'll get sick from getting angry."
They exchanged glances and remained silent.
Although Old Master Zhao lives in the East Courtyard, he maintains close ties with the high-ranking officials in the Forbidden City, making him someone that insignificant people like them cannot get close to.
That person has a bad temper; they must have offended someone else.
After all, everyone has elderly parents studying at the senior citizens' university. Everyone is very curious about Old Zhao, and over the past two months, they have roughly figured out his temperament.
Grandpa Zhao was not easy to get along with. He liked to glare and berate people whenever he met them. He was very picky about everything. But over time, they realized that Grandpa Zhao was just a paper tiger.
You have to go along with people's feelings; that way, even if Old Master Zhao gets really angry, he won't be able to vent his anger.
Moreover, they had heard that the old man was very principled, and that the younger generation in the family wanted to use his connections to pressure the neighborhood committee to find jobs. When the old man found out, he scolded his younger family members severely, and the next day he went around to different places to make sure that no one would try to use connections.
Such a person practically confines himself to rules and regulations; how could he possibly throw a stick at someone? Unless this person really angers the old man!
Everyone figured it out, but that didn't stop them from joining in the fun and watching the spectacle.
Shi Jingpei, on the other hand, thought that although the old man came from a privileged background, he was straightforward and had a stubborn temper, which only got worse as he got older. He was not good at making friends.
Moreover, many elderly people like to take advantage of their age and act arrogantly, often lecturing others.
He was just a little angry. He was already a grandfather, yet he was still being scolded like a grandson by Old Master Zhao. So he couldn't help but take a walk around to annoy people and, incidentally, actually get his head checked.
"It's nothing, just some blood stasis. A few plasters will be enough," Mr. Han said calmly after examining the patient, and then wrote down a few words before asking Shi Jingpei to get the medicine.
