Furthermore, Shi Jingpei's expression became even more unpleasant.
Before the Zhao family returned to the capital, the Ling family's fuss about recognizing their relatives had been the talk of the town.
He was certain that his wife was involved in this!
Thinking of Old Master Zhao's incorruptible manner, his head began to throb.
Although the old man wouldn't punish him for this, there are many paths to Rome. Shi Jingpei's success was due not only to the old man's guidance but also to his own underhanded tactics.
He was terrified that the old man would find fault with him, and then he would definitely be stripped of all his power!
So he had to push his wife away without any mercy, portray himself as a dutiful son, and with his past relationship with the old man, he should be able to barely keep his current achievements, right?
Shi Jingpei thought about it more and more and felt that this method was good.
The Ling family is no longer what it used to be and has no value to him whatsoever. He can take this opportunity to dump his wife and find a powerful in-law family. That way, he might be able to climb another step up the social ladder before he retires!
Ling Xinlan had just returned from get off work. She was wearing a white shirt, a gray skirt, and her large, curly hair was slightly yellow in the sunlight. She wore white sandals, pushed her bicycle, and slightly raised her chin, looking down on everyone.
She was a daughter of the Ling family. Even though the Ling family had fallen on hard times, when her grandfather was alive, their glory was something that no one in the family compound could imagine.
Back in her maternal family, she had the best relationship with her eldest sister-in-law, since her husband was the most successful of the Ling family's children, grandchildren, and sons-in-law.
You could say her life was pretty much complete. So from the very beginning, she had a sense of superiority.
Others envy, are jealous of, and hate her, but today, everyone is watching her with great schadenfreude.
An older woman kept staring at her, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.
Ling Xinlan raised an eyebrow. "Oh, Aunt Zhang, you just came back from picking up vegetable scraps? If you ask me, your son is a section chief, how can you eat rotten vegetable scraps without any decorum?"
"The salary isn't high enough to support so many people, so why keep having babies? Don't they know the organization is now advocating one child per family? They're just making trouble for themselves..."
The old woman, Zhang, clutched her basket tightly in anger and said without hesitation, "Yes, Madam Shi, you're quite something! You can't even control the men in your own home. You're being chased and beaten by your mistress, and you've got such a big bump on your head. It's so embarrassing!"
Ling Xinlan was taken aback, then scoffed, "My husband Lao Shi is the most honest man, how could he possibly do such a thing?"
“You can’t just make up stories about people because you’re upset. It might be your pretty boy son, but my husband, Lao Shi, will be retiring in a few years. You may not care about your reputation, but we do.”
The others also gathered around, chattering, "It's true, someone saw it with their own eyes, throwing it with a discus, it's a deep, dark purple, definitely not from a bump or knock..."
"I went home before I was off work, but on the way I went to see my lover, and she caught me red-handed by her boyfriend..."
"It's right there, lots of people have seen it..."
The people were talking in great detail, and Ling Xinlan's face turned ashen; she almost couldn't hold back and started cursing.
She scrambled to avoid her feet, and in a daze, parked the car downstairs, forgetting to lock it, before storming home.
When the door opened, both the couple had ashen faces.
It really was true; the man had a band-aid on his forehead, but because the swelling was so high, the band-aid wasn't fitting properly. Her workplace was nearby, and the man was usually not home at this time!
Both details matched up, and her anger flared up. She raised her bag and started hitting the person.
"You crazy woman!" The bag was made of leather and had many rivets and buttons on it. When he slapped it on the face, it hit the bag first, and Shi Jingpei howled in pain and asked to change it.
He was furious; he hadn't even said anything yet, and this woman had already started making a scene.
Shi Jingpei slapped him so hard his hand went numb. This was the culmination of a long-simmering resentment.
Ling Xinlan was stunned by the blow; her back teeth were loose, and a metallic taste filled her mouth.
She gritted her teeth and started scratching his face and neck. "You, Shi Jingpei, you think you're right to mess around outside? You dare hit me? I'll scratch you to death!"
Shi Jingpei was not to be outdone. Since the door was closed, he was determined to get a divorce. But he couldn't let himself be taken advantage of, so he deliberately targeted the woman's most sensitive and painful areas.
The couple fought fiercely, each cursing the other under their breath and revealing each other's shortcomings, unleashing decades of pent-up resentment.
Even at this moment, they still cared about their reputation, lowered their voices so that only the other person could hear them, and did not smash or break things in the house, but they still attacked the other person fiercely.
Shi Jingpei wanted a divorce but didn't want to be gossiped about, so he did it covertly.
Ling Xinlan wanted to embarrass him and teach him a lesson. At his age, he was still flirting with young girls. If he was going to flirt, he should at least clean up his mess. It's really something that he's going to get beaten up by people who come after him!
Knowing he was a proud man, she made it clear through her actions that she was tolerant of the situation and that if he dared to do it again, she would continue to use the same methods against him.
The two of them were really ruthless, and even when they were in pain and wincing, they pounced back even more fiercely.
Decades of affection have long been worn away by the daily grind of life. We know each other better than the other person does, and we both tolerate each other's hidden flaws at home.
The two fought until they were exhausted. The ground was covered with bloodstains, all from the scratches that had been left on Shi Jingpei's face and neck.
They glared at each other, panting, with an unprecedented level of disgust, but the problems at hand still needed to be solved.
"Where did you bring this little girl from when you gave her to the Zhao family?"
