Chapter 38 What is my reward?

Furthermore, how could she explain to people that she knew about what was happening in Kyoto, a thousand kilometers away?

If she says she dreamed about it, everyone will just laugh it off, or someone with ulterior motives will seize on it and criticize her!

"What's wrong?" Qin Yuanjiu stepped forward.

Although it was already late autumn, Ke Meiyu was in a hurry to go out, wearing only a thin shirt, while Qin Yuanjiu had also returned from his early training and was wearing a vest, the sweltering heat emanating from the air.

"Speak your mind. We're already married, so we'll share both the good times and the bad."

Ke Meiyu bit her lip and tilted her head to look at him.

The man's expression was aloof, his usual impatience completely gone, replaced by a seriousness mixed with her uncertain concern.

"So, you told me to say it, and I did?"

She thought about it and realized that this was just the beginning, and it would definitely not be the last.

Just as Qin Yuanjiu said, the two of them are husband and wife, and they will be together day and night from now on.

She could fool her grandparents, parents, and brothers, but it was difficult for her to keep it a secret from the big villain every time.

Instead of doing that, she might as well be more honest. As the saying goes, three cobblers are better than one Zhuge Liang. Qin Yuanjiu is probably worth two cobblers, right?

"Speak," Qin Yuanjiu nodded, casually took out an enamel mug, brewed two cups of milk powder, and handed one to her.

Ke Meiyu followed and saw that there was only a kang (a heated brick bed) and a set of tables and chairs in the room.

Qin Yuanjiu sat on a chair, while she sat directly on the kang (a heated brick bed), holding a slightly hot cup, smelling the milky aroma, sighing contentedly, taking a sip before saying, "Tuanzi was taken away by his father. I don't know why, but I had a dream."

“I dreamt that Tuanzi was sold for 500 yuan by that human trafficker. Tuanzi was taken to Kyoto and stayed with a group of children in a dilapidated and dirty courtyard near the train station.”

"They were trained to behave by human traffickers before being sold to wealthy families. Tuanzi was the same, but he was too stubborn and always wanted to go home. In the end, he was beaten to death by that couple!"

She gritted her teeth in anger as she spoke, took a deep breath and continued, "I know this dream of mine is absurd, but the details in the dream are so vivid, and I even remember which hotel those human traffickers stayed at and what the children looked like."

Qin Yuanjiu lowered his eyes. "So, you think you saved Lu Yuehai, while the other children were still sent to the courtyard house in Kyoto?"

"Yes, it's better to be safe than sorry. These children are the apple of their parents' eyes. If a child is lost, a family is ruined!"

Ke Meiyu looked at him expectantly, "Comrade Qin, you're the smartest, think of something! What if this is true? Those children will be saved, and the vicious human trafficking gang will be wiped out! What a great deed that would be!"

Qin Yuanjiu rubbed the rim of his cup, letting out a cold laugh that remained unmoved: "What does it have to do with me?"

Ke Meiyu looked at him in shock, "But, but didn't you save Tuanzi before?"

Has the main villain become so cold-hearted and heartless that he is beyond redemption?

"Oh, you mean this?" He looked up and said casually, "That's because that guy bumped into me, so I slashed him to get revenge and settle the score with you for saving my life. Is there a problem with that?"

Ke Meiyu immediately said, "You've ruined that gang's source of income, they'll definitely come after you. We have to strike first! You just said we're husband and wife, so of course I have to get involved. Are you just going to stand by and watch?"

"Want my help?" Qin Yuanjiu raised an eyebrow.

"Comrade Qin has so many ideas! He can build brick houses in the village. What can't you do?" Ke Meiyu chuckled, clasping her hands together with a hopeful expression.

“It’s not impossible,” he said slowly, taking a big gulp of milk. “I’ve always believed that every effort will be rewarded.”

“Absolutely, absolutely. Comrade Qin is those children’s savior, and their parents are happy to let you name your terms.” Ke Meiyu nodded repeatedly.

Qin Yuanjiu put down the cup in his hand and suddenly lunged forward.

Ke Meiyu leaned back instinctively, only to be half-encircled in someone's arms.

She couldn't help but blush and push him away, saying, "Comrade Qin, please, please speak properly..."

"Ke Meiyu," Qin Yuanjiu's voice was slightly hoarse, "they have nothing to do with me. The one who asked me for help was you!"

"Hmm?" Ke Meiyu pressed her hand against his firm chest, her cheeks flushed, and asked in confusion, "Don't they all mean the same thing?"

“Those children’s lives and deaths, their riches and poverty, have nothing to do with me,” he said, word by word. “I don’t have the kindness to give away my own good deeds after my own family has been destroyed! Everyone has their own path to walk. Birth, aging, sickness, and death, in the end, we all return to dust. Do you understand?”

Ke Meiyu was stunned. Looking at the man in front of her with a mocking smile on his lips, her eyes suddenly stung with tears.

“I’m sorry,” she said, somewhat flustered.

Before she could say anything, Qin Yuanjiu stood up, picked up his coat from the kang (a heated brick bed), and put it on. "If I agree to help, it's only because you're my wife. So, what's my reward?"

What a deep breath!

That really scared her!

Ke Meiyu puffed out her cheeks and glared at him. "What do you want? I'm just a country girl, with no money or power. I can only do what I can for you."

“For example,” Qin Yuanjiu asked immediately.

“For example,” Ke Meiyu scratched her head, “for example, cooking? But you have to wash the dishes!”

"Okay, let's go," he said, bowing slightly as he walked out the door.

That's it?

Ke Meiyu followed in a daze. Was all that foreshadowing by the big villain just to discuss the ownership of household chores after marriage with her?

When she belatedly realized that she had sold herself, Qin Yuanjiu took her to the Ke family.

"Aren't we going to town?"

"You're just going to town like this?" Qin Yuanjiu sneered.

Ke Meiyu looked down, froze, and with a howl, ran back into the house.

When she stopped in her tracks, she stiffly turned to look in the mirror. The woman in the mirror had a messy head of hair, wore a wrinkled, unbuttoned floral cotton shirt, and had purple fruit juice stains on the corner of her mouth. She stared blankly back at her...

I have no will to live!

Was she just looking like this while haggling with Qin Yuanjiu in the room?

With a blank expression, Ke Meiyu once again called her nephew through the window to bring her water, and then tidied herself up and changed her clothes.

The Ke family was warmly inviting Qin Yuanjiu to have breakfast.

"You silly child," Mrs. Ke said, tapping her daughter's forehead as she came out, "Even if Xiao Qin likes you, you still need to tidy yourself up. What was that you were like just now? A crazy girl, acting like she's a lady of the house?"

"Mom, I'm hungry," Ke Meiyu said, pouting.

Her voice was soft and sweet, and as soon as she opened her mouth, everyone turned to her for food, leaving Qin Yuanjiu standing there.

Ke Meiyu held a bowl of noodles with green beans and wild boar broth, proudly raised her chin at Qin Yuanjiu, and took a big bite.
