Chapter 6 Who is the real Fu Bao?

Ke Meiyu was speechless. Is this even allowed?

How big must this rat hole be to feed a whole family for so long?

"And another thing, your aunt had a difficult labor for three days, and the doctor even declared her critically ill!"

As soon as she heard the news that you had given birth, she immediately perked up, gritted her teeth, and squeezed out your younger cousin!

At this point, the old lady lowered her voice and said:

"The blind fortune teller at the village entrance used to say that this is called 'Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Auspiciousness,' and that you are a lucky charm."

"This...can you even connect these things?" Ke Meiyu blinked, then excitedly continued to ask:

"Grandma, is there anything else? Since Grandpa Blind San'er said I'm an auspicious omen, I should at least do something auspicious, right?"

The old lady quickly finished making the pancakes, and then, using the thin layer of oil at the bottom of the pan, she fried an egg for Ke Meiyu.

She ladled out a thick millet porridge from the earthenware pot next to her, then carefully sprinkled a thick layer of brown sugar into it, and placed it on the small wooden table against the wall along with a small dish of homemade pickled chili peppers and green beans.

Ke Meiyu smiled apologetically at the old man, then picked up her chopsticks and began to eat.

The feeling of hunger was terrifying. Even after experiencing the apocalypse, she always carried various foods like chocolate and candy to quickly replenish her strength and had never really experienced hunger before.

Moreover, she had always been pampered by her family and powerful figures, becoming selfish and domineering, and had no intention of caring for others. Besides, she was truly starving.

"Eat slowly, eat slowly, I'll make you more milk if you don't have enough," the old lady said, quickly handing her a bowl of warm water when she saw that she was choking.

"Food made with milk is so delicious," Ke Meiyu mumbled a sincere compliment.

In this post-apocalyptic world, fruits and vegetables are all hydroponically grown. Where can you find the rich, mellow flavor of native plants that have absorbed the essence of the sun and moon and are imbued with the earth? It's like the difference between broiler chickens and free-range chickens!

"Your little mouth is so sweet, just like how your father used to coax food from my hands when he was a child," the old lady said, patting her lightly with a smile. "Everyone makes food the same way, so why does Grandma's always taste so good?"

Ke Meiyu didn't have time to talk; she just kept shoveling rice into her mouth.

Only then did the old lady continue the previous topic, "Blind San'er's ancestors have been fortune tellers for generations, with only one son in seven generations. Moreover, anyone who gets involved in this line of work is either blind or lame, supposedly because they revealed too many heavenly secrets."

Everything he said came true. If it weren't for the unfavorable situation, he would have been living a life of luxury in the city long ago…

Just as she was getting into the swing of things, Aunt Ke Er walked in with a gloomy face. "Mother, if I remember correctly, my eighth daughter was born at the same time as the seventh daughter, only five or six minutes apart."

Why do you consider Qi Yatou to be an auspicious omen?

Our girl's birth chart indicates she's destined to bring prosperity to the family. And from this day forward, she's the first phoenix to soar out of our village!

Ke Enshu also came in, smiled and said, "Mom, Grandma, you shouldn't argue about fate anymore. Be careful, walls have ears. If someone hears us, we'll all have to learn a lesson."

Besides, good fortune isn't something you can just talk about; you have to work hard with your hands and your brain.

However, Grandma, there's a saying among the people: fortune and misfortune are interdependent, and yin and yang work together!

If there are truly auspicious omens, then there must also be omens of misfortune accompanying them, in order to maintain balance. Do you think my cousin and I will be one auspicious omen and the other a omens of misfortune?

The old woman's face fell, and she let out a cold laugh:

"I don't know if you're a jinx, but my Yu Bao'er is definitely a lucky star!"

Ko Eun-sook pulled her mother aside and said with a faint smile:

"Grandma, nothing is absolute. In the end, time will tell."

I hope you won't regret it then!

While they were talking, Ke Meiyu buried her head and finished all the soup and rice. Her stomach was only slightly full, far from being satisfied.

Without crystal nuclei to replenish energy, we're wasting too much food!

In an era of scarce resources, having enough to eat is a luxury, let alone the fact that her appetite is unusually large due to her superpower. It seems that she will have to struggle for food in the near future.

Distracted for a moment, Ke Meiyu tilted her head and looked at Ke Enshu.

Since her own superpowers and powerful mental strength came along with her, then the fact that the big shot from her previous life used her high-level superpowers to search for blessing people all over the world and spent a huge sum of money to have someone bless her and make her a lucky koi fish should also have come along, right?

“Grandma,” Ke Meiyu nodded repeatedly, her eyes darting around, and said earnestly to the old lady:

"Since I am an auspicious omen, then Eighth Sister must be a jinx."

Even I, a highly auspicious person, was almost killed by her, which shows that Eighth Sister's power is extraordinary.

For the sake of our whole family's happiness and health, why don't you discuss dividing the family property with Grandpa?

Her words stunned the three of them like a hammer blow.

The old lady tugged at her clothes under the table and kept giving her meaningful glances.

Ke Meiyu patted the old lady's hand reassuringly.

The mother and daughter from the second wife had strange expressions. First, they were embarrassed by Ke Meiyu's shamelessness in trying to portray herself as auspicious, and second, they couldn't believe that she could say the words "separate the family" so easily.

If splitting up a family is really that easy, why did they have to struggle for so many years?

“Seventh Sister, dividing the family property is no trivial matter,” Ke Enshu said, her smile fading slightly.

“You can’t make the decision, so you should say things like that less often in the future, so as not to break Grandma’s heart.”

Ke Meiyu rested her chin on her hand and blinked, "Is this some kind of reverse psychology tactic?"

I knew it! All this fuss you've been up to all this time is just about splitting up the family business, isn't it?

Grandpa and Grandma are the most democratic. If you want to separate the family, just say so. Who can stop you?

This is a new society; the old-fashioned patriarchal system doesn't work here anymore.

She had barely finished speaking when the old lady pulled her back to the main room.

After closing the door, Old Mrs. Ke poked her forehead lightly with resentment. "Silly girl, since you know they want to divide the family property, why did you still agree with her?"

I'm not worried about any of the houses in our family, it's just that you, my little rascal, are the problem. Because of you, your five older brothers are still single.

"Grandma," Ke Meiyu said with a smile, linking her arm with the old lady's and speaking softly in a coquettish tone:

“My five older brothers can all afford a dowry worth a hundred yuan or so, and girls from all around are eager to marry into my family. What are you worried about?”

The main reason is that my five older brothers are so good, how could an ordinary girl be worthy of them?

Marriage is a matter of fate; it can't be forced or rushed.

The old lady rolled her eyes at her. "Your brothers are good in our family's eyes, but who would want to marry a good girl to a farmer who doesn't like farming?"

Ke Meiyu raised an eyebrow and chuckled: "That just means my brothers are smart. They calculate their work points carefully and never let anyone else take advantage of them."

"You silly girl, you always come up with all sorts of twisted logic," the old lady said, both amused and exasperated. "Being lazy makes you smart?"

"That's right. The second wife has many maids, but they eat a lot. They're just doing the same amount of work as they eat, so why are they complaining?"

Everyone in the village knows that the second branch of the family works like cattle and horses for our family, while we, the fourth branch, with six strong laborers, just sit around and eat for free. Why is that?

"The family must separate! Grandpa and Grandma will stay with our fourth branch of the family. From now on, I, the lucky one, will ensure you all enjoy the best of life!"
