Chapter 96 is truly a waste of talent.

Ke Meiyu stretched out her claws to scratch him.

Qin Yuanjiu stopped him mid-air and affectionately placed his lips under hers, gently rubbing them: "Be good, stop making a fuss, Grandma and Mom are watching."

Sure enough, the old lady and Ke's mother looked on with satisfaction, assuming that the young couple had a good relationship and were spending so much time together early in the morning.

"Let me go!" Ke Meiyu was so angry she was almost speechless. What a hypocrite, saying one thing to people and another to them.

Qin Yuanjiu immediately released her and sincerely admitted his mistake: "It was my fault. Next time, how about I carry the talisman on my head and walk around the village ten times?"

“Good my foot!” she glared at him. What was so funny about this?

When her daughter and new son-in-law came to visit, Madam Ke made hand-pulled noodles for them, with a sauce made of pickled cowpeas, minced meat, and green peppers, topped with fried eggs and a few slices of cured meat.

Ke Meiyu ate happily, and didn't forget to say to Qin Yuanjiu, "Let me tell you, marrying me is your good fortune. Look how delicious my mother's cooking is!"

"Are the noodles at the state-run restaurants in Kyoto as delicious as my mother's?"

Qin Yuanjiu shook his head and readily followed her form of address, praising her earnestly: "Mother's skill in making hand-pulled noodles is superb, yet she can only wander around in the tiny kitchen of Luofeng Village. It's such a waste of her talent."

Mrs. Ke was amused and laughed out loud, but she still had to maintain her composure in front of her son-in-law.

She waved her hand: "It's not as exaggerated as you all say. I'm just like the other aunties and sisters-in-law. I spend half my time around the stove. I'm used to doing these things every day."

"It's just some simple home-cooked food, but it's exactly what I made to your liking!"

Qin Yuanjiu smiled and said, "Mother, I never like to talk nonsense."

“In Kyoto, many people enjoy such authentic and delicious home-cooked meals, and within the organization, there is a special department dedicated to cooking for Chinese immigrants from overseas.”

"Many of them were unable to return to their home countries for various reasons. Later, after the establishment of New China, various countries reconciled and brought funds and technology to help our development."

"Most of these compatriots are nostalgic and have many regrets. They like to seek out things that touch their memories of their youth, and home-cooked meals are one of them."

"Mom can give it a try if she has the chance."

For a peasant woman from a small mountain village, Kyoto was a dream that seemed unattainable.

She listened with amusement, not taking it to heart at all.

The Ke family had just finished eating and put down their chopsticks when the village chief, wearing a jacket, walked in looking embarrassed and angry.

Behind them followed Ke Yunyue and Huang Fangbin, their faces grim and filled with resentment.

"Third Uncle, did I disturb your meal?"

After dinner, the old man lit his pipe and leisurely puffed on it. "Nothing, Qingxi, what brings you here so early in the morning?"

The village chief suddenly bowed ninety degrees to Ke Meiyu and Qin Yuanjiu: "Seventh girl, Comrade Qin, I'm so sorry!"

Then he turned his head to the side, and the two behind him gritted their teeth and bowed deeply.

Ke Meiyu's eyes flickered; it seemed the couple had revealed something.

She and Qin Yuanjiu both stepped aside to let them pass. "Uncle Qingxi, what's wrong? How did you offend us?"

The village chief rubbed his face and sighed, "What a misfortune for our family. Ke Yunyue has been spoiled rotten by my husband and me. She thinks that because she has an uncle who is a company commander and me, her father, she can rule the village."

“She said she wanted to marry Huang Fangbin, but there weren’t many educated youth in the village who met the criteria for the worker-peasant college student quota. I wanted my daughter to have a better life, so I had ulterior motives and used my connections to get her a spot.”

"But who knew they were both such bad people? They didn't try to live their own lives, and they couldn't stand seeing others do well!"

"Taking advantage of living at my home, Huang Fangbin stole my key, opened the door and drawers of the village committee office, and switched the application form..."

"This unfilial daughter even sent a whistleblower letter, which attracted the attention of the organization and reform team!"

The Ke family members immediately turned cold.

The old man glanced at Huang Fangbin and Ke Yunyue, who were keeping their mouths tightly shut, and looked at the village chief: "Qingxi, they have to bear the consequences of their actions. Why did you bring them here?"

The old lady gritted her teeth in hatred, "Qingxi, you did all this for their own good, but look at their eyes, they clearly hate you too!"

"You're still pleading for them, not to save them, but to embolden them to cause even bigger trouble in the future."

Ke Meiyu nodded, "Uncle, someone with Huang Fangbin's character really isn't qualified to go to university."

“Now that you’ve gone to such lengths to get him accepted, he might be jealous of his classmate’s success and try to sabotage things behind the scenes. We’re from the same village and relatives, so we certainly can’t do anything to them.”

"But they won't let it go so easily. Once the organization starts investigating again, someone else will have to take your position as village chief."

“My daughter is right,” Ke Laosi said bluntly. “Brother Qingxi, if you really care about your daughter, then keep this kid under your nose and keep a close eye on him!”

"Yun Yue is a bad girl, but she doesn't have the guts to report her. Someone must have been secretly instigating her to fall for her."
