Chapter 23 Come, serve tea to your master

The next morning, it started to drizzle.

Su Li got up early and made breakfast. Just like last night, she served a bowl of vegetable and egg noodles and asked Pei Zhao to take it to the coachman in the yard.

Last night the coachman slept in the carriage in the yard, and he refused to sleep in the study.

After all, he was born into a noble family as a servant and was very well-behaved, so Su Li just let him do as he pleased.

After breakfast and packing up, Su Li took Pei Zhao and his sister on a carriage and headed for Luocheng.

Unlike the cheap carriages hired in town, Mr. Song's carriage was spacious and comfortable. Along the way, the two little guys were curious and touched and looked at everything.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and by the time we arrived at Wencheng Academy, it was already pouring rain.

At the entrance to the academy, a servant was anxiously looking around. Seeing the carriage approaching with an umbrella, he hurried forward and said respectfully, "Madam Pei, my master asked me to take you in."

Su Li was a little surprised, but didn't show it. After thanking him, she got off the carriage with the two children.

The rain was so heavy that the few people had to take a detour through the corridor.

In Wenlin Pavilion, Song Xianshan, Song Xianhe and Zheng Yan were waiting for them.

Pei Zhao and Pei Chuer bowed and saluted as Su Li had taught them last night. "Pei Zhao/Pei Chuer greets the gentlemen."

Several people nodded in satisfaction, thinking to themselves that although she was a woman from a remote country, she seemed to have taught the children well.

Afterwards, Pei Zhao followed Song Xianshan into the inner room.

After waiting for a long time, Pei Zhao still didn't come out. Su Li was somewhat certain that Pei Zhao might have caught Song Xianshan's eye.

Yesterday, the longest time for those children who came to take the test was no more than a few minutes. Now she estimated that at least ten minutes had passed.

Sure enough, nearly half an hour later, Song Xianshan came out holding Pei Zhao's hand, with an unconcealable smile on his face.

"Madam Pei, Zhao'er is very good. From now on, he will be my closed disciple."

Su Li was also very happy: "Thank you, Mr. Zhao'er will be in trouble from now on..."

"Hahaha!" Song Xianhe said happily, "Great, great! This is a great event. Zhao'er, hurry up! Serve tea to your master!"

As he spoke, he waved his hand and a servant came in carrying tea.

Pei Zhao looked at his mother and saw her nod. Then he picked up the teacup and offered it with both hands: "Master, please have some tea."

"Good boy!" Song Xianshan took the teacup, took a sip, and then said, "Let's keep it simple for now. When we get to the capital, we'll choose a good day and hold the formal apprenticeship ceremony..."

Everyone could see that Mr. Song was very fond of this last disciple, and they were all happy for him.

Song Xianshan continued, "Madam Pei, I have already made an agreement with Zhao'er. Tomorrow, he will come to the capital with me. You should accompany him well today..."

He came to Luocheng this time only to select a closed disciple, and was not the chief examiner of the Autumn Examination. Therefore, after receiving Pei Zhao as a satisfactory disciple, he prepared to take him back to the capital.

Su Li didn't expect him to be so anxious. She was a little surprised and looked at Pei Zhao. He was staring at her with big eyes full of longing.

This little bookworm!

She couldn't help but laugh and replied, "Okay..."

Although she felt a little disgusted with Pei Ji after what happened yesterday, he was still Pei Zhao's biological father after all. Pei Zhao was going to Beijing, so it was reasonable for her to inform him and let them say goodbye properly.

Tomorrow is the day of the Autumn Examination. Thinking about what Mr. Zheng said, students from all over the country will arrive in Luocheng tonight at the latest, Su Li is too lazy to run back and forth. Anyway, he has to stay here for one night, so it is the same to wait for Pei Ji here.

In the afternoon, the sky finally cleared up.

Su Li first went to the nearest inn to book a room. The autumn examination was held at Wencheng Academy, and students from all over the country would arrive in the afternoon. The inn must be very popular, and she was afraid that she would not be able to book a room by then.

Then she took Pei Zhao and his sister to the clothing store. Winter was coming soon, and although Mr. Song said that she didn't need to worry about Pei Zhao's food, clothing, housing and transportation in the capital, she still planned to buy two sets of winter clothes for the children.

The prices in the provincial capital were indeed much higher than in the town, so she bought two sets for Pei Zhao and Pei Chuer.

As for her and Pei Ji's, they should go to the town of Taohua Village to buy them. Although the materials are not that good, at least they are cheap. After all, she is poor now.

After leaving the clothing store, I passed by a jewelry store. Thinking that I had never been to a jewelry store since I came here, I took my two children in to take a look.

This is a jewelry store that specializes in jade accessories. It is not a high-end store. Of course, she only has a few dozen taels of silver on her, so she doesn't dare to enter a high-end store.

"Sir, is there anything you like?" a woman in her early thirties asked enthusiastically.

After looking for a while, Su Li was quickly attracted by the pendant placed at the innermost position.

It was a beautifully carved lotus pendant, about the size of a copper coin, so I asked, "Boss, how much is this?"

The woman took out the pendant and said, "Sir, you have a good eye. This pendant is a new model we just added today, and it was carved by the most skilled craftsman in our store."

"Since you like it so much, I'll give you a discount price of three taels."

"How expensive!" Su Li complained in her heart. Of course, jade ornaments depend on the quality. Ordinary ones can be sold for a few dozen coins or a few taels, while high-quality ones can be sold for hundreds or even tens of thousands. It's normal. The main reason is that she has no money. But her child is going to study far away, so she has to buy something as a souvenir.

Then he asked, “Do you have any more of the same model?”

The woman apologized, "I'm so sorry, we only have one of this design, but we also have a lotus pod design. Take a look..."

"Please bring it here so I can see it..."

"Okay, please wait a moment!" He then went to the cabinet on the other side, took out a box, opened it and placed it in front of Su Li.
