Chapter 133 A Slip of the Tongue: The Basement of Beijing

"Yay! Congratulations!"

"Where are you now? Let me treat you to milk tea," Jian Yan said.

Ye Qingning glanced at the milk tea shop not far ahead: "I happen to be at your school's milk tea shop. I'll buy some and come find you. I'd like to visit your dorm."

"Okay, come on, I'll come downstairs to meet you."

Ten minutes later, Ye Qingning arrived at Jian Yan's dormitory building with two cups of milk tea. From afar, she could see Jian Yan wearing a long blue dress and waiting at the door.

Ye Qingning hurried over and handed her the cup of lemon tea: "Your lemon tea."

Jian Yan glanced at the milk tea in her hand and casually asked, "You're drinking taro boba milk tea?"

"Yes. I like it."

Jian Yan smiled and led her upstairs.

There was a double room on the fifth floor. Jian Yan pushed open the door and let Ye Qingning in: "This is a double room, but my roommate has moved out, so I'll be living alone for the time being."

The room has two bunk beds, with a computer desk on the lower bunk. White curtains block the glaring sunlight, and the whole room still exudes a youthful vibe.

Ye Qingning looked around excitedly and even took out her phone to record a video: "You guys are so great!"

Jianyan found her a pair of slippers and handed them to her: "It's fine as it is, aren't all dorms the same?"

“Yes, but I’ve never experienced it…” Ye Qingning muttered to herself as she changed her shoes: “You college students simply don’t understand the pain of us working people. Places with such luxurious facilities as school dormitories but such low rents simply don’t exist in society.”

She took a couple of sips of her milk tea, threw herself into a chair, and stared blankly out the window: "Back in the day, I rented a basement apartment in Beijing for several hundred yuan a month! I couldn't even see any sunlight..."

Ye Qingning's eyes were fixed on the window and she didn't notice Jian Yan peeling an apple. She was stunned when she heard her words.

"A basement in Beijing?" She checked again, a look of shock flashing in her eyes.

Ye Qingning then came to her senses. It seemed that there was no such city as Beijing in this world. She had misspoke again.

Fortunately, it was Jian Yan, who was easily fooled, so she smiled and said, "Yes, the name of that basement is 'The Basement of Beijing City'."

Jian Yan stared at her intently for a while, then lowered his eyes and continued peeling the apple, but his hands trembled slightly.

Ye Qingning didn't notice, and turned her gaze back to stare blankly out the window. This was the moment she had been dreaming of.

How she longed to live in a dormitory like this as a university student...

Jianyan handed her the peeled apple and said, "Eat this apple."

Ye Qingning took the apple without hesitation and took a big bite: "Tsk tsk, our little Yan Yan is so good, a peeled apple is just the best!"

Jian Yan chuckled: "Your mouth..."

Ye Qingning shook her head and laughed smugly: "There's no other way. Back then, in order to get by, I could only practice more skills. If I couldn't do anything else, I could only rely on my mouth. If I said a few nice words to everyone, everyone would be happy to hear it."

Jian Yan silently sipped her lemon tea and said, "I feel like you had a tough life before."

Ye Qingning sighed: "Indeed, the basements in Beijing are freezing in winter and warm in summer, while the film and television bases in Hengcheng treat people differently based on their status. It's truly a miserable existence."

Jian Yan concealed the shock and curiosity in her eyes, and asked with a smile, "Where is the Hengcheng film and television base? Many of my classmates are filming at the Hengdian Film and Television Base."

"Hengdian?" Ye Qingning chuckled, silently criticizing the original author's naming philosophy. However, seeing that Jian Yan was still waiting for her answer, she introduced herself: "Hengcheng was a small film and television city in my hometown, but it no longer exists."

Jian Yan looked at her and smiled: "Your hometown? It must be very far from here."
