Chapter 558 Extra - Awkward
Chen Shi stared at the calm-faced man, a surge of resentment and displeasure rising in her chest. Could this man not even utter a single kind word...?
Is it really that hard to coax her?
Chen Shi's eyes quickly filled with tears. She glanced at the medicine on the table, picked it up, and gulped it down.
She was probably too upset, so much so that she only realized how pungent and unpleasant the taste was after she had finished drinking it.
She hugged the railing and gagged for a while. Ye Zhiyuan stood up and stood behind her, handing her a hand with a few candied fruits in his palm.
Chen Shi grabbed one and wolfed it down before finally suppressing the churning sensation in her throat.
Ye Zhiyuan handed her his hand again: "Take two more. If you vomit, the medicine won't be effective."
Chen Shi's mood had just eased slightly because of his act of handing over the candied fruit, but upon hearing this, he immediately became angry again.
She jumped up and slapped the candied fruit out of his hand: "I don't need your pity! I won't throw up!"
After saying that, she stormed off in a huff.
Ye Zhiyuan looked at the door that had been slammed shut with a bang, then at the candied fruit that had rolled to the ground. He sighed slightly, bent down and picked up the candied fruit one by one, then took the bowl and left.
When he reached Chen Shi's door, he stopped and said, "Rest well after taking the medicine; the effect will be better."
Chen Shi was leaning against the door when she heard this and frowned.
It was clearly a caring remark, why couldn't he have said it in a different way?
Or was his statement merely a formulaic instruction, devoid of any personal emotion?
Chen Shi lowered her eyes and stared at her toes.
Without a doubt, she liked him. And him?
Do you like her too?
But this is the husband I'll be spending the next few decades with.
If he doesn't like her, how is she supposed to live the rest of her life?
...
Ye Zhiyuan carried the empty bowl back to the medicine-preparing area. Shu Tong was tidying up the medicine cabinet when she saw the empty bowl in his hand and laughed: "Your words are still the most effective. I tried to persuade her for a long time, but she still wouldn't drink it."
A fleeting hint of embarrassment crossed Ye Zhiyuan's face before he placed the bowl on the table: "I did drink it, but I'm not in a good mood."
“You’re just a young girl.” Shu Tong stopped what she was doing and turned to look at him. “Actually, for you, this experience, although dangerous, is also invaluable.”
"Um?"
Ye Zhiyuan didn't understand and stood a few steps away from him, looking somewhat bewildered.
Shu Tong pondered for a moment and explained, "Marriage is always a matter of parental arrangement and matchmaker's words. If you don't have this shared experience, you and Her Highness the Princess will have to start cultivating your relationship from scratch after your wedding, and there will inevitably be some minor bumps along the way."
Although the wedding was a national event, Ye Zhiyuan's feelings were still somewhat complicated when he heard Shu Tong talk about it.
In particular, the reason he agreed to the marriage was clearly because of Shu Tong.
Hearing her talk about it now naturally evoked mixed feelings.
"But now that you've shared this experience, you'll also understand that although Her Highness the Princess is a bit eccentric, she's a very good person, intelligent and kind."
Shu Tong smiled and said, "And she can also see your mature, stable, and responsible side, which will make your relationship progress more smoothly after marriage and your life more fulfilling."
Ye Zhiyuan looked at her, his mind a jumble of thoughts: "Actually, the reason I agreed to this marriage was entirely because... I thought Her Highness the Princess was..."
"Your Highness is indeed Your Highness." Shu Tong smiled gently and said with a firm tone, "You and she are a match made in heaven, and your future together will naturally be filled with love and affection."
