Chapter 582 Extra - The Wedding
Chen Ci was silent for a moment, then parted his thin lips slightly: "I want to take Shu Tong with me."
Abao glanced at him and said without hesitation, "Next."
"Why?"
"Why do you think that is?" Abao's tone was quite helpless: "You can't keep her even if you want to, do you think she can leave?"
Chen Ci sighed: "Then I hope that after I leave, she can gain the freedom she wants and live the life she wants."
Ah Bao seemed to lower his eyes and think for a while: "I can let her live the life she wants."
"Is it a deal?"
"Of course, I'm a man of my word, Ah Bao."
Chen Ci breathed a sigh of relief. In any case, he had managed to secure the life she wanted for her.
Chen Ci didn't notice that A Bao's words just now only granted him the second half of the sentence; he hadn't promised him the freedom in the first half.
Seeing him deep in thought, Abao asked, "Is there anything else? My time for making a wish is limited."
"And the Crown Princess, I hope she can elope with General Lin Feiyan," Chen Ci said.
Abao paused for a moment, then said, "Shu Tong has already promised to keep her word, so why ask such a redundant question?"
“You promised to let Shu Tong live the life she wants, and I don’t want her to take such a big risk.”
“Okay.” Abao shrugged. “I will help Shutong with this, so you don’t need to worry. And I will keep my promise.”
Chen Ci nodded: "Okay. I also hope you can take into account the feelings of Minister Lin's family."
"Don't worry, I'm a responsible administrator, and I'm dedicated to making everyone in my jurisdiction happy."
Chen Ci scoffed: "Don't you feel guilty saying that?"
Abao said sheepishly, "Those who can be happy will be happy. There are some plot points I can't control."
Chen Ci naturally understood this as well. After all, as human beings, even if it's just a role, everyone has to live their own life, and it's impossible for everyone to be happy.
...
After A Bao left, Chen Ci rushed to handle some official business and went directly to Wutong Residence.
It was already past lunchtime, and Shu Tong didn't know when Chen Ci would return, so she didn't wait for him.
When the man arrived, Shu Tong was already practicing calligraphy at the table under the swing set.
Looking at her charming appearance in her light blue dress, Chen Ci felt a warmth in his heart and inexplicably wondered what she would look like in modern clothes.
He stood under the eaves for a while, watching, until Shu Tong put down her pen, turned her head to look at him, and said with a hint of reproach in her eyes, "What are you doing? Come here!"
Chen Ci chuckled softly and walked over, glancing at the characters Shu Tong was practicing.
An excerpt from a short poem: "Having seen the vast ocean, other waters seem insignificant; having beheld the clouds of Wushan, other clouds are not worth seeing. I idly stroll through the flowerbeds, too lazy to look back; half my heart is devoted to cultivating the Tao, half to you."
Although he felt a pang of sadness upon seeing the poem, he still smiled and praised, "Your small regular script is becoming more and more neat."
Shu Tong raised an eyebrow: "Of course, don't you even know who your master is?"
Are you praising me?
"What else?"
Chen Ci smiled and said, "It's still my disciple who has the talent."
Shu Tong grabbed his hand: "Have you eaten?"
Chen Ci shook his head: "No."
Shu Tong glared at him and said, "Why didn't you eat anything before coming back at this hour?"
"I wanted to see you," Chen Ci said naturally.
Shu Tong smiled and said, "Alright, then let your apprentice show off his skills and make you some cold noodles."
"good."
Although Shu Tong asked Chen Ci to wait by the swing, the man still insisted on going to the kitchen with her, ostensibly to help out.
Shu Tong didn't let him sit idle either. She gave him a cucumber to slice into strips, while she cooked some noodles and, while they were cooling, she stir-fried some egg sauce.
The aroma of cucumber strips and egg sauce wafts out as soon as the noodles are topped with them.
Chen Ci swallowed hard and wolfed down the bowl of noodles.
Shu Tong felt a warm feeling in her heart when she saw it.
In fact, making a bowl of noodles for her loved one has always been the most heartwarming thing for her.
After all, a person's life is nothing more than three meals a day.
After lunch and a nap, the two went to Chuyun Palace together. One checked on Chu Song's injuries, while the other continued to work on embroidery with Ye Qingning.
And the days that followed were pretty much the same.
Chen Ci still stayed at Wutong Residence every day, but the two of them really just lay on the same bed and slept. Even when Shu Tong expressed her desire, Chen Ci would patiently comfort her.
In an era when a woman's chastity was highly valued, Chen Ci knew he could not stay with Shu Tong until the end, so he could only keep her precious possessions.
In the many years to come, a man who loves her just as much as he does will appear, protect her, and accompany her for life.
Every morning when he wakes up, Chen Ci still helps Shu Tong with her makeup, and under her careful guidance, he becomes more and more skilled.
When the weather was nice, he would ride a horse to take her to the mountains to watch the sunrise, take a walk in the countryside, and after returning to the city, they would go to a breakfast shop for breakfast and buy some candied fruits and snacks.
On rainy days, Chen Ci would take Shu Tong to the best restaurant in the capital, find a private room by the window, and quietly watch the rain while enjoying delicious food.
When Chen Ci was busy, Shu Tong would go to Chuyun Palace to make embroidery, and gradually she went from being clumsy at first to becoming skilled later.
Although my embroidery skills couldn't compare to those of the skilled embroiderers, I could still produce decent handkerchiefs and sachets.
The days passed by peacefully and warmly, one after another.
Finally, the day of Chen Shi and Ye Zhiyuan's wedding arrived.
Because of Princess Shuyun's personal selection, the wedding procession ultimately returned to the Minister's residence, which was a great honor for the Minister's family.
