Chapter 696 Extra - Unexpected Incident
On Friday morning, Fang Tong got up early to prepare breakfast.
Since using Uncle Ren's incense, Fang Tong's sleep quality has improved day by day, and he has become more energetic and even more optimistic.
Ren Shu and Chen Ci spent most of their time in the laboratory.
Fang Tong was responsible for cooking, cleaning, serving tea and water, and in his spare time he would read books in the yard or water the herbs.
Occasionally, villagers from the neighborhood would come over for a visit and chat with Fang Tong about everyday matters.
Life went on at a leisurely pace, which was quite pleasant.
After breakfast was ready, Chen Ci and Uncle Ren came downstairs one after the other. The three of them ate breakfast in the courtyard, and then Uncle Ren handed the shopping list to Chen Ci.
"The road to town is difficult to travel, so you should go and come back soon."
Chen Ci glanced at the list and put it in his pocket: "Teacher, aren't you coming with me? I'll treat you to a big meal when we get to town."
Uncle Ren waved his hand: "No, no, it's too bumpy a journey. I'd rather stay home and have some tea."
"Okay, let's go then."
Uncle Ren nodded: "Go ahead."
Fang Tong went upstairs to get a coat, and the two of them drove into the city.
Chen Ci navigated a route that was longer but easier to travel. Along the way, all he could see were layers upon layers of green mountains and villages hidden among them.
The scenery is quite nice, of course.
“It would be great to develop tourism here,” Fang Tong suddenly said.
Chen Ci chimed in, "This is a relatively remote mountainous area, so it's very difficult to develop. However, things have improved a lot in recent years. Roads have been built, water and electricity have been connected, and the internet has been brought in."
Fang Tong nodded: "I hope this place will develop soon; it might become a paradise on earth."
Chen Ci lightly tapped his fingers: "I hope we can come back to find the teacher together then."
Fang Tong smiled and nodded: "Mm."
The car drove into the town. The mountain town was still built on the mountain, and the road was relatively flat. It happened to be market day, and the roadside was full of stalls, with bustling people walking among them.
The car was obviously unusable.
Chen Ci found an empty spot to park the car first, and then took Fang Tong into the market.
Fang Tong was also experiencing that kind of bustling atmosphere for the first time. Amidst the clamor of voices, there was no unpleasant noise, only a strong sense of everyday life.
Because there were so many people, Fang Tong almost couldn't keep up with Chen Ci's pace twice. She tentatively tried to reach out and grab Chen Ci's clothes, but didn't have the courage.
Just as she was hesitating, the man suddenly reached out and pulled her to his side, gently holding her shoulder.
With his arms encircling her, a sense of security quickly spread through Fang Tong, and she felt completely at ease.
Amidst the comings and goings of people, Fang Tong followed Chen Ci's movements. The man protected her well while also making purchases according to Uncle Ren's list.
Fruits, vegetables, meat, and eggs—after buying most of the heavy items, Chen Ci ended up with them, while Fang Tong only had to take a fish and a chicken.
The two went back to the car and put their purchases inside. Chen Ci inquired about where to buy fireworks and firecrackers, and the two squeezed into the crowd again.
Having bought most of the items, the trip was significantly easier. Chen Ci even bought candied hawthorns for Fang Tong.
Just as the two were about to reach the fireworks stall, screams and cries for help came from the crowd ahead, and the news quickly spread among the onlookers.
"She's pregnant!"
"She's incredibly bold! Coming to the market with such a big belly."
"Looks like she's about to give birth."
"Oh my god, what are we going to do! This place is so far from the hospital!"
"..."
Fang Tong and Chen Ci exchanged a glance, then parted the crowd and squeezed in.
