Chapter 86 Personally Sending You On Your Way
Chen Chu led Lin Feiyan into the foyer, where Jian Yan bowed and greeted him: "Hello Mr. Lin, I am Jian Yan. Qing Ning arranged for me to take care of your meals for the time being. Dinner is ready."
Upon hearing Jian Yan's name, Lin Feiyan's eyes narrowed slightly, and his sharp gaze fell upon her.
The person in front of her was shorter and thinner than Ye Qingning, and looked frail. She was wearing a gray hoodie and a black apron, and her eyes were downcast as she stared at her toes, looking somewhat timid.
With a slight furrow in his brow, Lin Feiyan nodded.
Chen Chu pushed him straight to the restaurant, and Jian Yan, who had recovered his senses, quickly followed and stood waiting on one side of the restaurant.
Lin Feiyan's gaze lingered on the four dishes and one soup for a moment. He then wiped his hands with a tissue and asked in a deep voice, "Did you make all of this?"
“Yes.” Jian Yan answered with her head still down: “Qing Ning listed the menu, saying that these are all your favorite foods.”
A barely perceptible smile flickered in Lin Feiyan's eyes. He picked up his chopsticks and first took a piece of scrambled eggs with tomatoes. The taste was alright, just a little too sweet.
Seeing that he had started eating, Chen Chu finally felt relieved and glanced at Jian Yan, who was standing respectfully.
Even from a few steps away, Chen Chu could clearly sense the nonchalant dejection emanating from her.
Her oversized hoodie made her look like a child wearing adult clothes, but she didn't seem to care at all.
Her hands, hidden in her sleeves, revealed only the tips of her glossy fingers, which appeared even paler against the black apron.
Seemingly sensing that someone was watching her, Jian Yan raised her eyes to look over, and the moment their eyes met, Chen Chu's heart sank.
He had never seen such lifeless eyes before. Her eyes were large but empty and lifeless, without a single spark of light, just like a pool of stagnant water hidden in the mountains.
Even during his darkest times, the bandit leader had never been this dejected.
Jian Yan quickly looked away from him, but her heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason.
Is he the doctor who wrote the report?
Jian Yan pursed her lips. The two looked exactly alike, but their eyes were subtly different.
Dr. Chen's eyes were somewhat sinister and nonchalant, but the gaze of the person in front of him, which was honest yet contained a hint of probing, made him feel even more oppressed.
"You knew Ye Qingning before?"
A clear, cold voice suddenly interrupted Jian Yan's thoughts. She paused for a few seconds before realizing, "I don't think I know her. I have no recollection of her."
Jian Yan noticed a cold, sinister gaze fixed on her: "Then why did she risk her life to save you?"
Jian Yan lowered his head even further: "Qing Ning is probably happy to help others."
Lin Feiyan scoffed coldly: "That's something she's capable of doing."
Jianyan's eyes remained fixed on his toes.
"Now that you know each other, if you want to die, stay away from her. If I find out she's been hurt because of you, I'll personally send you on your way!"
The man's voice was very calm, but within that calmness lay a deep chill and warning, successfully causing Jian Yan's back to break out in a thin layer of sweat.
She had met many people, but very few could speak such harsh words with such nonchalance as Lin Feiyan.
For a moment, a sense of fear truly ignited within her.
Noticing her nervousness and helplessness, Chen Chu quickly served Lin Feiyan a bowl of chicken soup, interrupting the conversation: "Brother Fei, have some soup."
Lin Feiyan glanced at him indifferently, took a couple of sips of soup, and left the restaurant.
As the sound of the wheelchair faded into the distance, Jian Yan breathed a slight sigh of relief. She moved her stiff body and looked up to see the man who looked very much like Dr. Chen Ci still standing there.
She glanced at him: "You..."
