Chapter 33 After Marriage
The maid's face was full of sorrow, and her kneeling motion was so large that it even stirred up a little dust.
The palace maid looked unfamiliar, and Jialuo turned her head to glance at Fei Cui.
Jade silently opened its mouth and quietly uttered the word "Dong".
Jialuo immediately understood; it was Dong Eshi.
That delicate little woman.
Jialuo glanced at Fulin, wanting to find an excuse to leave, so that the two young lovers could pour out their hearts to each other at the sickbed.
But when he looked up, he found that the boy was also looking at him.
His expression seemed to be waiting for her to speak.
"?"
Jialu blinked, reached out and gently tightened her grip on Emerald's hand, then bowed slightly and said softly to Fulin, "Your Majesty, I suddenly remembered that I have some other matters to attend to, so I will not disturb Your Majesty any longer."
After saying this, Jialuo prepared to leave.
"stop."
The boy's voice carried a hint of coldness.
"Does the Empress not even inquire which master is about to die?"
Jialuo: "???"
She simply couldn't understand what the emperor meant.
He wasn't in a hurry at the moment. Her first thought was whether Fu Lin really liked that young woman.
"Your Majesty is right."
Jialuo turned around and looked at the little palace maid kneeling on the ground, her face full of tension and worry. She asked in a gentle voice, "Get up and speak. First, tell me which young mistress your mistress is, and then tell me what happened to her?"
The young palace maid looked up and glanced at Jialuo.
Jialuo looked at her with a questioning gaze.
"Yes, Your Majesty, I am a maidservant of my mistress in Zhongcui Palace."
She first stated her identity, then paused, and when she didn't hear the two masters speak, she continued, "Earlier this morning, my lady said she felt a little bored, so I helped her to the Imperial Garden to relax. We returned a little while later, but for some reason, she suddenly developed a high fever, her whole body was burning hot, and she even vomited up the medicine she had eaten this morning. Then she became delirious and couldn't be woken up no matter what I did."
"The illness is that serious?!"
Jialu sighed dramatically, glanced at the silent boy, and could only instruct, "Jade, quickly go and fetch the imperial physician. Your Majesty, let's go and see that Dong E clan member first!"
"She was already frail. Last time, I heard that she was exposed to the sun for too long and the imperial physicians had to stay up all night to save her. Now, I don't know what happened to her in the Imperial Garden, but she has become so seriously ill again."
"You are protected by a divine dragon. If you go there, let that Dong E clan woman be touched by its divine aura. Perhaps her illness will heal faster."
"As for your concubine..."
Jialuo paused for a moment before saying, "I went outside the palace today and got a lot of worldly smells. If Dong Eshi smells them later, I don't know if it will worsen her condition. It would be better if I went back to take a bath and change into clean clothes before seeing her. That would be better."
Upon hearing the Empress's words, the young palace maid tensed up and quickly lowered her head, afraid that someone would notice the abnormality in her expression.
Upon hearing this, Fu Lin merely glanced at her, then took her hand and said, "I've been out all day; do you expect me to take a bath before seeing her?"
"You are the Empress. You don't need to bathe and change clothes before meeting anyone in the world."
Jialuo: "???"
She had intended to find an excuse to rest and leave the "unlucky couple" alone, but the Emperor misinterpreted it as such.
Well... while that interpretation isn't wrong—she was indeed angry with the Emperor for yelling at her, which led to the estrangement of the two lovers, Yin and Yang.
The Emperor took her hand and led her forward. Jialuo naturally dared not resist, so she followed him toward Zhongcui Palace.
The boy's hands were warm and slender, and although they looked thin, they were still able to hold Galo's hands firmly in his palms.
Jialuo's skin is now very fair and tender. She takes excellent care of herself. Her skin is fair and delicate, and her hands are not the dry, pale kind, but rather plump and tender. You can tell from touching them that this girl is well-nourished and very healthy.
The boy's hands, however, were slender and bony, a result of his growing stature.
The contrast is striking when they're pulled like this, yet their skin tones are so harmonious.
The boy seemed to feel that Jialuo's hand was comfortable to touch, so his fingers kept sliding around lightly and irregularly.
Jialuo felt goosebumps all over her back as she looked up at the boy's profile.
It's hard to imagine that at this moment, Fulin was touching her hand like this as he went to visit Consort Dong'e, who is historically acknowledged as being extremely favored by Emperor Shunzhi.
This sent a chill down Jialuo's spine.
"What's wrong?"
The boy sensed her subtle movement, turned his head, and asked in a low voice.
Jialuo pulled her hand back with a little force.
"Your Majesty, I suddenly feel a little cold."
As she spoke, she tucked her hands together.
"Yes, when we get to Zhongcui Palace, I'll have you place the brazier at your feet."
"You had a great time outside the palace and weren't cold at all, but you've started to feel cold now that you're back."
Fu Lin said something as if complaining.
Jialu chuckled dryly and said to Fulin, "Your Majesty, Lady Dong'e is still ill. Let's go see her first."
"Um."
Fu Lin stepped into Zhongcui Palace, and Jia Luo silently exhaled before following him inside.
Zhongcui Palace was once the residence of the Crown Prince during the previous dynasty, which shows that its location and scale were extremely good.
Moreover, its architectural paintings are bright and grand, exhibiting both Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty styles.
It looks bright and lively, yet it doesn't lack grandeur.
However, it could not conceal the faint smell of medicine emanating from the palace.
From a side room in the main room, the faint sound of a woman's extremely suppressed cough could be heard.
Each breath seemed heavier than the last, yet each breath seemed shallower than the last.
Even Jialuo, who didn't particularly like her, was moved.
The boy also frowned, but he only stood in the main room and did not step into the side room.
Through a screen covered with poems, the slightly raised bed was indistinct, and the girl's appearance could not be clearly seen.
Inside, another maid of Dong E rushed out and knelt down in front of the Emperor.
She cried softly, "Your Majesty, you've finally come! Please, please go and see our master! He's so ill!"
Fu Lin's expression turned solemn. When he looked away from the side room and looked at Jia Luo again, it reminded Jia Luo of the first time they met.
"Your Majesty, please go and see him. I am not available."
This feeling left her feeling incredibly exhausted.
"Your Majesty, I'm going to see her."
At this moment, the maid who had been kneeling on the ground seemed to notice her and suddenly looked up at Jialuo with a flustered and helpless expression.
Garlo ignored him and took Agate into the side room.
Now she understood why Fulin had brought her here; it was all because of a matter of "etiquette".
In her past life, she had heard a saying: whether a man truly loves a woman can be seen by whether he cherishes her and sometimes doesn't even allow his own thoughts to taint her.
She, the empress whose title is not legitimate, is being taken advantage of by him every day!
And the girl he liked, despite both of them having done something so improper and uncivilized, still said it was inconvenient!
Jialuo was filled with resentment, and her good mood after leaving the palace vanished instantly.
As soon as she rounded the screen, she saw a gaunt, pitiful-looking face with tears welling up in her beautiful eyes, threatening to spill over as she looked toward the sound of footsteps.
Those eyes held three parts sorrow, five parts pain, and two parts expectation.
But when she saw that the person who came was Jialuo, her pupils shrank and tears slid down her pale and thin cheeks.
She closed her eyes slightly, and when she opened them again, she was about to get up and bow to Jialuo.
"Your Majesty...Your Majesty, this concubine..."
With such a pitiful, weak, and helpless appearance, even Jialuo had to admit that Consort Dong'e was indeed worthy of the affections of the royal brothers.
With so many movements, it doesn't look like he's "about to die".
"Oh dear, lie down quickly."
Jialuo quickly went over and grabbed the woman's frail shoulders, pressing her back onto the bed.
But perhaps Jialuo used too much force, because as soon as she lay back down in bed, her brows suddenly furrowed in pain, and she covered her mouth with her hands, coughing painfully.
"Master, Master!"
The maid then threw herself onto the bed.
Jialuo had no choice but to get up and move aside. Suddenly, the maid let out a scream, and she didn't know what was wrong with her.
Jialuo shuddered in fright.
Looking up, the girl's cheeks suddenly began to turn red, but her lips were extremely pale. What was most striking was the trace of blood at the corner of her mouth.
Jialuo: "??????"
Don't die in front of her!
Anyone who didn't know better would think that Jialuo had done something drastic!
"The imperial physician! Quickly, find the imperial physician!!!"
Jialuo took a few steps out of the side room, but the young man grabbed her shoulder and asked anxiously, "What's wrong? What's wrong? Tell me quickly what happened to her!"
Jialuo's shoulders ached from his grip, and she tried to break free, but the pain only intensified.
"Lady Dong'e is coughing up blood! Quickly, fetch several imperial physicians!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Jade appeared at the door. Fu Lin immediately released Jia Luo and angrily shouted at the imperial physicians who rushed in from outside the door, "If anything happens to her, none of you will have your heads!"
Jialuo was suddenly released by him, and her body felt light, almost causing her to lose her balance.
It was Manao who helped her up. Jialu glared at Fulin and sat down on the couch.
At this moment, Fu Lin seemed not to notice her at all, and only guarded the door of the side room.
Jialuo looked at Fulin and the side room he was facing, and the more she thought about it, the angrier and sadder she became.
Who does she think she is!
What is Fu Lin anyway!
How dare these two treat her like that!
Even if Jialuo wasn't the empress and was deposed, she was still a concubine, and she could still return to the grasslands.
The empress of the Qing Dynasty could only be from the Borjigit clan!
The future emperor is Kangxi, who was historically known for his extreme filial piety towards Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang. She simply refuses to believe that she can't be an empress and empress dowager who can lie down and enjoy life!
She's really not going to put up with these two oddballs!
