"A Chong? Xiao Cheng Huang? Where are you?" A girl's voice came from not far away.
The boy's expression changed instantly. He looked behind him and saw the girl looking around. He raised the corner of his lips imperceptibly.
"I'm here." The boy waved and called out.
The girl's eyes suddenly lit up with joy. She trotted over to the boy and said angrily, "A Chong, where have you been? I've been looking for you for a long time. Where did we get lost?"
Just as the young man was about to speak, he was interrupted by a deep voice.
"This is the center of the earth, and it's also where the Chenghuang clan thrives and reproduces."
Hearing this, Awan realized that she and A Chong were not the only ones here. She slowly raised her head and met a pair of bright golden eyes.
"You, you are the King of Chenghuang?" The girl exclaimed in surprise. The mythical beast in front of her was more than ten times larger than the Chenghuang she had met before.
Awan remembered that her priest aunt once told her that in the White Feather Clan, only the leader was qualified to meet the King of Riding Yellow!
Cheng Huang nodded slightly: "Indeed, you saved my descendants despite the danger during the landslide. Tell me, what do you want?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a small head of Xiao Chenghuang popped out from behind the King of Chenghuang and chirped twice.
"Anything is possible!" Awan opened her eyes wide in disbelief.
Cheng Huang nodded: "As long as I can do it."
"I want to get your recognition and become the leader of the Baiyu clan!" Awan blurted out. This was her long-cherished wish as well as the wish of the entire Baiyu clan.
The King of Yellow laughed loudly, his voice resounding throughout the sky above the center of the earth: "Good boy, you really didn't let me down." After saying that, he looked at the young man next to Awan provocatively.
The young man just lowered his head, said nothing, and hid his expression in the shadows.
Cheng Huang turned his attention back to Awan.
"Awan, you saved innocent lives, showed great love, and remained fearless in the face of danger. You have proven with your actions that you possess the qualifications to become the leader of the White Feather Clan and have passed the final test."
"Step forward, and I will grant you my mark of approval."
"Heh." The young man sneered.
Awan was too excited to hear anything, but Chenghuang heard it and squinted his eyes to glance at the boy.
Accept your fate, no one can escape the control of heaven!
"Awan, come forward." Cheng Huang repeated.
The girl finally recovered from her surprise. She had just taken a step towards the King of Yellow Riding when the young man grabbed her hand.
Awan subconsciously stopped.
The young man slowly raised his head and met Awan's eyes. His expression was the same as usual, but there was a hint of difficulty in his voice: "Do I have to go?"
A Wan was slightly startled and asked with a smile, "What's wrong, A Chong?"
"Don't you often ask me what the outside world is like? As long as you don't become the leader, we can leave the White Feather Clan. We can go wherever you want and live a carefree life... Okay?"
When Ah Chong said the last three words, his throat rolled and there was a pleading tone in his voice.
Looking at the boy's appearance, Awan didn't know why she felt a slight sourness in her nose.
Why did the young man give her the feeling that if she became the leader of the White Feather Clan, they would become strangers from two different worlds and could never go back to the way things were before?
How is this possible? She is not that kind of person!
"A Chong, I promise you that even if I become the leader, our relationship will not change. You will always be my best friend!" A Wan's tone was firm.
Ah Chong looked at the girl in front of him intently and asked solemnly, "Is becoming the leader of the White Feather Tribe really that important to you?"
Awan thought for a moment and nodded. "Yes, I can't bear to watch my people suffer and eventually perish from this world. I can't do it..."
The priestess aunt said that if the White Feather Clan no longer had a leader, it would face a devastating disaster. Now, more and more people in the White Feather Clan are suffering from diseases, and this is the beginning of destruction.
After an unknown amount of time, the young man loosened his grip and lowered his head again, his voice muffled: "Okay, do what you want to do, that's all."
Feeling the warmth in her palm gradually disappear, Awan's heart seemed to be missing a piece. At this moment, she did not understand what this meant.
She just told herself that even if she became the leader, she would remain the same as before. The only thing that would change was her responsibility to protect her people, and nothing would change between her and A Chong.
Thinking of this, Awan felt relieved a little and turned to walk towards the King of Chenghuang.
The divine beast's golden eyes stared at the girl: "Awan, look into my eyes and swear to me that from now on, the survival and prosperity of the Baiyu clan will be the most important thing in your life. Can you do this?"
Awan held up three fingers and swore to the heavens, "Awan swears that she will do her utmost to shoulder the fate of the Baiyu Clan."
"Okay! Remember what you said today!"
After saying that, Cheng Huang slowly bent down and touched his head to the girl's forehead.
In an instant, the two of them were surrounded by brilliant light. Awan was blinded by the brightness and could not open her eyes. She only felt a burning sensation on the birthmark on her arm, which then spread to her entire body.
An unprecedented power grew from her dantian and spread throughout her limbs and bones.
When the light disappeared, King Chenghuang roared to the sky, and then the whole forest could be heard with the roar of Chenghuang.
It seemed as if they were celebrating for Awan, but also as if they were bidding farewell to the once innocent girl.
"Awan, since you have become the leader of the Baiyu clan and inherited the power of the Chenghuang clan, there is one thing you must know." Chenghuang spoke slowly.
Awan nodded: "You go ahead."
Cheng Huang raised his sharp claws and pointed at Ah Chong: "The young man in front of you is the reincarnation of Chaos. If he is not sealed, the White Feather Clan will be doomed even if it has a leader!"
"Chaos?" Awan was stunned.
She had only seen these two words in books.
Legend has it that Chaos is cunning by nature and is good at amplifying human desires, turning growing desires into obsessions, and finally giving rise to evil thoughts, thereby controlling and ruling humans.
Throughout history, countless human races have been destroyed by chaos.
How could such a big devil be Ah Chong?
"This is impossible!" Awan shook her head.
Cheng Huang sneered, "He lurked beside you to prevent you from becoming the leader of the Baiyu clan and gaining the power to seal him away. Didn't you see everything that just happened?"
Awan looked at the boy and shook her head after a while: "He did try to stop me just now, but he also let go in the end."
"He's deliberately trying to confuse you!" The Yellow King frowned. "If you don't believe me, ask him yourself and see if he dares to tell you the truth!"
A Wan looked at the boy in confusion: "A Chong, you are not Hun Dun, right? You promised you wouldn't lie to me!"
