Chapter 389: The Emperor's Sign

"Why are you so hard, my dear?"

"Take your dirty hands off me."

The middle-aged man was startled and quickly took off his blindfold. When he looked up, he met Pei Yaozhou's disgusted eyes.

He screamed and fell to the ground: "Ghost, there is a ghost!"

Pei Yaozhou drew out the long sword from his waist, a shadow passed by, blood splattered, and the middle-aged man rolled on the ground holding his wrist in pain.

"With this sword, you killed my father and mother."

After a while, the middle-aged man came to his senses with a pale face.

He glanced at the shadow at Pei Yaozhou's feet in the candlelight, and belatedly realized something.

"Lu Wenzhou, you are not dead!" The middle-aged man gritted his teeth.

Pei Yaozhou raised his thin lips and said, "Death? Qiao Zhong, you've killed so many people. Even if I die, I will crawl out of hell and drag you down with me."

As he spoke, the sword flashed again and severed the tendons of the man's other hand.

"This sword strike is because you abused Ruoxi since she was a child."

Qiao Zhong almost fainted from the pain and screamed loudly: "Come here, where are all the people? Come and help me!"

The words echoed throughout the hall, but until they fell, no one rushed in to protect the emperor.

Qiao Zhong was dumbfounded. Just as he was about to stand up, he saw the long sword draw two more afterimages. Blood spurted out from his ankles, and his two tendons were actually cut.

"You caused Ruoxi and I to be nearly burned to death by the fire because of those two sword strikes."

Qiao Zhong fainted from the pain. Pei Yaozhou picked up the wine on the table and poured it on Qiao Zhong's face without any hesitation.

The middle-aged man who had fainted woke up again and saw the sharp tip of the sword pointing at his throat.

Qiao Zhong couldn't even care about the pain in his limbs. He uttered a choked voice in his throat, "Lu Wenzhou, I know I was wrong. Please let me live. I don't want to be the emperor anymore. I'll give everything back to you. Please, don't kill me!"

Pei Yaozhou looked at Qiao Zhong as if he were a maggot. Just as he was about to swing his sword again, he heard a woman's voice coming from outside the door.

"Gu Xi has received news that almost all of the Imperial Guards have defected, and General Yuan is currently leading his troops to eliminate the remaining ones."

"My father has also taken control of all the rebellious noble families."

Just hearing the woman's voice, the hostility on Pei Yaozhou's face disappeared instantly, and his eyes were so gentle that tears could be seen in them.

After seeing who was coming, a glimmer of hope flashed in Qiao Zhongde's eyes. Then he looked at Pei Yaozhou and suddenly understood something.

At this moment, he didn't know where he got the strength from, but he used his hands and feet to crawl to Shen Ruoxi and hugged Shen Ruoxi's calf.

"Ruoxi, I'm your father. You've always been the best and most obedient. Please help me beg Lu Wenzhou to let me go!"

Pei Yaozhou narrowed his eyes dangerously and was about to step forward, but he saw Shen Ruoxi kick Qiao Zhong away with a sarcastic smile.

"Who are you to call yourself my father?"

Qiao Zhong had never been humiliated like this in front of his own juniors, let alone Qiao Ruoxi, who had been at his mercy since childhood. He immediately became furious.

"Qiao Ruoxi, even if you are not the Qiao family's biological daughter, the Qiao family has raised you for so many years. How can you talk to your father like that?"

Qiao Ruoxi was so angry that she laughed: "The Qiao family sent me to the mountains to feed bears and wild wolves when I was young, and when I grew up, they sent me to the palace to be a pawn. Do you think I should thank you for not killing me?"

Qiao Zhong roared: "If it weren't for me, you would have died on the battlefield!"

"If you hadn't taken the late emperor's order and recklessly mobilized my reinforcements, we wouldn't have lost the battle. My precious daughter wouldn't have gotten lost, picked up by a heartless person like you, and persecuted to this extent!"

Luo Xuan walked in from outside with a bloody knife in his hand, looking aggressive.

Qiao Zhong frowned: "Luo Xuan? Why are you here? Aren't you a neutral party? Didn't you say that you would never return to the capital unless summoned?"

Luo Xuan snorted and protected Shen Ruoxi behind him: "Old man, your ability to understand is amazing. Isn't what I said clear enough? Ruoxi, she is my biological daughter, the princess personally appointed by the late emperor!"

Qiao Zhong trembled all over and his body began to shake violently.

No wonder Lu Wenzhou was able to make a comeback so quickly. He actually had Luo Xuan as his backer. This was something he had never expected.

He thought he was the best chess player, who had carefully planned every step and sat on the supreme throne, but he did not expect that he would lose to one of his chess pieces.

Qiao Zhong suddenly burst into laughter: "This is God's will to kill me!"

Luo Xuan put his hands on his hips and looked disdainful: "I say, why are you like this? You blame God for everything. Isn't God unfair?"

"If you had been more diligent and caring about the people, the people wouldn't have made things so easy for us. If you had restrained Qin Bin, he wouldn't have allowed his son to rob the common people's daughter and even took her to the Baiyu tribe. He deserved to be killed by my precious daughter."

"Tell me honestly, can you blame God for this?"

Shen Ruoxi: ...This is really her good father, actually standing up for the justice of heaven.

Qiao Zhong was shocked and angry, and glared at Shen Ruoxi: “Did you kill Qin Bin too?”

Shen Ruoxi smiled faintly: "To be precise, they overestimated their own abilities and rushed to their deaths."

Qiao Zhong's blood boiled, his head tilted and he vomited a mouthful of blood.

Pei Yaozhou handed the long sword to Luo Xuan: "General Luo, this last sword strike is now in your hands."

Luo Xuan avoided it with disdain: "I won't come, for fear of the blood splashing on me."

Pei Yaozhou: "...You must have been splattered with blood on the battlefield, and you're disgusted by that?"

Luo Xuan: "I'm afraid the blood will splash on Ruoxi!"

Pei Yaozhou: "...Me too."

Qiao Zhong: ???

He used his hands and feet to climb out, remembering what Qiao Ruoxi had said just now. There were still many Royal Guards who had not betrayed him. If he escaped, there might still be a glimmer of hope of survival.

There were two "whoosh" sounds, and the swords and knives flew out at the same time.

"It's better to crawl away so that the blood won't splash on Ruoxi." The two men said almost in unison.

The soldiers outside the door saw a head rolling down the stairs with a thud.

The royal guards who were still resisting were so frightened when they saw this scene that their legs went weak. They dropped their swords and knelt down to surrender.

Pei Yaozhou and Shen Ruoxi walked out of the bedroom hand in hand.

A ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and cast a golden-purple light, which happened to fall on the two of them, as if a god had descended from heaven.

"Purple air coming from the east is a sign of an emperor!" someone in the crowd exclaimed.

Luo Xuan then walked out of the house. He walked up to the two of them, knelt on his knees, raised his arms and shouted.

"Long live His Majesty! Long live the Empress!"

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a loud noise behind him.

Everyone put down their swords, prostrated themselves on the ground, and shouted "Long live the emperor."

"Long live His Majesty!"

"Long live the Queen!"

Like an overwhelming force, it resounded through the sky.

The emperor of the Great Yan Kingdom has returned!
