In a secluded courtyard, the man landed lightly and helped Zhao Yi into the house.
The pursuers outside the courtyard searched back and forth several times, but left quietly after finding nothing.
After the noise outside subsided, the man lit the candles inside the house.
Under the dim light, Zhao Yi could finally see the man's face clearly; he was a handsome young man.
"Thank you for saving my life, sir. I will certainly repay you in the future. My name is Zhao Yi. May I ask your name?"
The man turned around and brought out some medicine and bandages from the house. His tone was calm and indifferent: "Just call me Amu. There's no need to repay me. I was just doing it on the spur of the moment."
After saying that, he took the medicine and treated Zhao Yi's wound. As if afraid that he would be worried, he added, "Jiang Bai saved me before. I came here because I knew she was in danger."
Zhao Yi was taken aback; it turned out this person had come for Jiang Bai.
"Do you have any way to rescue Bai'er now?"
"You should rest first. It's not too late to go to the herbal medicine shop in a few days." Amu pointed to the wounds on his body with a medicine spoon. He was unable to move around easily now, and forcibly saving him would only put him in a difficult situation as well.
Zhao Yi gritted his teeth: "It's nothing, these injuries are nothing. Bai'er has fallen into the hands of such villains. Every moment she stays there is another day of suffering. We must rescue her as soon as possible."
After hearing this, a dark light flashed in Amu's eyes. He didn't say anything more, but simply lowered his eyes to treat the wound.
Unable to find Jiang Bai in the basement of the herbal medicine warehouse, the shopkeeper then went looking for him.
Seeing that Jiang Bai was still obediently staying there, he breathed a sigh of relief, sneered, and walked towards her.
"You brat, you've got some nerve, daring to cause trouble on my turf. Tell me, who's behind you?"
He lifted Jiang Bai's chin with his fleshy fingers, his face full of lust and wickedness.
Jiang Bai looked away; this kind of person just made him feel nauseous.
"The wicked will surely be punished."
Seeing her like this, the shopkeeper's expression turned vicious again: "You brat, you've got a tough tongue! Don't worry, I'll show you what it's like to wish you were dead, and see if you'll still have the same backbone then!"
After he finished speaking, he waved his hand behind him and said, "Bring up all my treasures."
Then, several guards came over carrying several large wooden platters and placed them in an orderly fashion on the long table next to them.
The shopkeeper grabbed Jiang Bai's chin forcefully, turning her head to look at the plates.
"Why don't you take a look at these things yourself, see which one you like, and I'll use that one for you, how about that?"
Jiang Bai glanced at the items; they were all instruments of torture, none of them meant to be harmed. "You can keep your treasures for yourself; I don't need them."
The shopkeeper shook off his hand, grinned maliciously, and walked to the instruments of torture: "You're not going to choose? Fine, I'll help you choose."
He selected a long, thin needle, dipped it in the special liquid in the bowl next to him, and then found an acupoint and slowly inserted it.
"This is our specially made potion, guaranteed to make you feel like you're in heaven."
Jiang Bai didn't know what the medicine was, but he felt that half of his body first went numb, then every inch of his flesh felt like it was being pricked by needles, and then it felt like it was being roasted by fire and frozen.
Large beads of sweat quickly appeared on her forehead. After a long while, she looked up at the shopkeeper and smiled gently: "Nothing special."
The shopkeeper's fat trembled with anger, then he pointed to two splints: "Use them on her!"
He then picked up a long whip with barbs from the side, dipped it in salt water, and began to whip her.
The whip left bloody welts all over her body, and soon there wasn't a single patch of undamaged skin left on her body.
"Still being stubborn, I don't believe you can hold out all night!"
Just as he was about to make a move, someone came in from outside and whispered, "Manager, we have important guests coming tomorrow. We should keep this man for now and deal with him later."
The shopkeeper stopped cracking his whip, glanced at the waiter, and then slammed the whip down.
"Then we'll deal with her after we've entertained that distinguished guest."
He flicked his sleeves, turned around, and left the secret room.
Jiang Bai struggled to even lift her head; her ears were ringing, and after vaguely hearing a few words, she fainted.
The next day, Zhao Yi rested for a day, and then took Amu to the medicinal herbs again that evening.
The security tonight was much looser than last night, and they easily sneaked into the medicine storehouse. The hidden door was slowly opened, and a bloody smell wafted out with the dark wind.
Upon smelling the aroma, Zhao Yi immediately frowned and rushed inside at lightning speed.
The smell of blood is so strong; I fear something has happened to Jiang Bai.
The moment he stepped into that cell, he saw Jiang Bai covered in blood.
She is currently in a semi-conscious state. The excessive blood loss has made her dizzy, but the pain in her body keeps her awake.
Hearing footsteps in front of her, she gritted her teeth, instantly snapping herself back to reality: "If you don't want anyone to know, then don't do it in the first place. You'll get your comeuppance..."
Zhao Yi trembled, bent down, and cupped her face in his hands: "Bai'er, it's me."
Upon hearing that familiar voice, Jiang Bai's long eyelashes fluttered, and he opened his eyes.
"How did you get here? It's dangerous here."
Zhao Yi helped her remove the restraints and explained, "The defenses were a bit weak today, which is why we sneaked in."
Jiang Bai then noticed Amu, who was keeping watch nearby. Why was he here too?
She didn't have time to ask for details, but she felt something was off today: "You just broke into this place yesterday, why are you suddenly so relaxed today? There's probably a trap. You should leave quickly and not stay here."
Zhao Yi knew she had a point: "You should leave with us."
Jiang Bai refused him: "No, I won't go back until I find out the truth. These people will soon slip up, and I can't give up halfway."
Amu stared at the doorway, his brows gradually furrowing.
They saw very few guards when they came in, which was quite unusual compared to yesterday.
He turned around, looked at the two of them, and said, "Let's leave for today, and we can come back to investigate later."
Jiang Bai was about to say something when a loud laugh came from outside the door.
"Hahaha, none of you are getting away today!"
The shopkeeper strode in from outside, his face beaming with pride.
Zhao Yi looked at him and immediately shielded Jiang Bai behind him.
Last night, the guards rushed in and surrounded the three of them.
Jiang Bai was startled and gripped Zhao Yi's wrist tightly.
Zhao Yi turned around and whispered to comfort him, "Don't worry, I won't let him hurt you again."
Jiang Bai shook his head. This group of people was not simple; they should not be underestimated.
"Let them go; this has nothing to do with them."
