"When I go back this time, I will definitely take good care of myself, because I know that there are people at home waiting for me. You will worry, and so will Peace and Joy. Perhaps I was used to being alone before and never explaining anything to anyone. This time, I will pay attention to my safety at all times and come back safely."
She hugged him tighter, and after a moment of silence, added, "Zhao Yi, I've fallen in love with you. I don't want to leave you, so I will live well and try my best to live."
Even if the chances of getting there are slim, even if the journey is fraught with danger, she will try her best to live and return to his side.
Upon hearing her words, Zhao Yi tightened his embrace around her.
"Okay, I'll wait for you to come home. You must take good care of yourself. I'll be waiting for you."
Jiang Bai nodded: "Okay."
The two cuddled and lingered for a long time until the sun began to set.
Seeing that it was getting late and it was time for the children to get out of school, Jiang Bai tidied his messy hair and took Zhao Yi to the private school.
When Xile saw that her parents were waiting at the entrance of the private school, her low spirits lifted after a whole day.
"Father, Mother."
Zhao Yi bent down and picked her up, while Jiang Bai took Ping An's hand.
"Let's go home."
The family of four left the private school. It was almost dusk on the street, and many vendors were making their final calls, preparing to pack up after selling their last batch of goods.
There were also some people setting up night stalls, who came out early to reserve their spots.
Pedestrians hurrying home made it seem even more crowded and lively than during the day.
Ping An looked at the bustling streets of the capital, tugged at Jiang Bai's hand, and looked up at her with expectant eyes: "Mother, we haven't gone shopping in a long time. Can we go home a little later today?"
Looking into his big, clear black and white eyes, Jiang Baixin was almost melted by his cuteness.
She readily agreed: "Of course you can. You can buy whatever you want today. Mother will buy it all for you."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Zhao Yi next to her and met his smiling gaze.
He joked, "Would Bai'er buy me anything I fancy?"
Jiang Bai hummed softly, "I promised to buy it for the child, so are you going to call me 'mother' too?"
After she finished speaking, she looked into his eyes and smiled mischievously: "It's not impossible, I don't mind, I have plenty of money anyway."
Zhao Yi's smile gradually widened, and he reached out to pinch her soft, tender face: "If I don't call you Mother, can I call you Wife instead?"
Jiang Bai, slightly annoyed, grabbed the large hand that was messing with his face, pulled it away, shook it in his hand, and then gently shook it off, a slight smile blooming on his lips: "Wife is fine too, I'll pay your bill today."
After she finished speaking, she held her head high and led Ping An away first. At the entrance of a shop next door, a shop assistant was climbing a ladder to hang a bright red lantern.
That ray of light entered her eyes; the lights of the world are so enchanting.
The four of them slowly walked towards the bustling part of the long street, seeking out the noisy and lively places step by step.
Several long and short shouts of vendors echoed from one end of the street to the other. When the sky darkened, Jiang Bai turned around and could only see that the lanterns along the street were lit up like two long dragons, and the people below were blurred into shadows.
I don't know how much light and shadow there is, or how many people are reflected in it. Perhaps as one walks along this path, all the people will be submerged by this light and eventually vanish into nothingness.
She squinted, her gaze gradually becoming unfocused.
"Wife?"
"My wife, what are you thinking about?"
"Mother? Why are you ignoring us?"
Several calls came from his ears, and the scene before Jiang Bai became clearer, with fewer and fewer people under the lamplight.
She turned her head, and Zhao Yi was very close to her, his eyes filled with worry.
She realized she might have been daydreaming, so she grinned and said, "It's nothing. I was just looking at these lights and thought they were pretty, so I took a few more glances at them."
Xile hugged Zhao Yi's neck and, upon hearing this, excitedly jumped into his arms: "Xile also thinks it looks good, Daddy, why don't we buy lots of lanterns and hang them all over the house? Xile is scared of those dark places in the mansion."
The Zhao residence was quite large, but there were few people there, and the empty areas were always dark.
Zhao Yi glanced at Jiang Bai, and seeing that she didn't object, perhaps she was also waiting for his answer, he laughed and agreed loudly: "Okay, then buy it, and have someone hang it up when we get back."
The family of four immediately bought a lot of lanterns. They told the servants to come and get the ones they couldn't carry later, and then they went home.
During dinner, Ping An and Xi Le already knew that Jiang Bai was leaving home again.
Xile pouted: "Why does Mother want to go back again? She just got back not long ago."
Jiang Bai had no idea what excuse to use to coax her, so he could only force a weak smile.
Zhao Yi then came out to respond to Xi Le's words: "Mother has things to do. You must study hard while she is away. Father will write to her every day to tell her about your situation. Don't let her worry about you while she is away."
Upon hearing this, Xile immediately shut up, and the little one wilted.
I still have to study. I thought things would be easier now that my mother isn't here.
Ping An finished eating the rice in his bowl before looking up at Jiang Bai: "Then Mother, please come back soon after you've finished your business. I have a lot of homework I want to show you."
Jiang Bai looked at her obedient appearance and reached out to pat her head: "Okay, Mother will come back as soon as she finishes dealing with things over there."
The next day, Jiang Bai packed her things early in the morning and prepared to leave. Zhao Yi took the child to see her off, and even Amu, who didn't know what to do after arriving in the capital, showed up.
