Chapter 148 No Medicine

Zhao Yi was stunned. How could it be incurable?

"Old Fu, you haven't even taken her pulse yet, how can you be so sure?"

“You are questioning my medical skills. I can tell at a glance that the poison she has been afflicted with is called Yingxiao, a rare poison from the Southern Dynasty. Yingxiao means joy at the end of life. Instead of wasting time seeking medical treatment, you should enjoy your last moments.”

Old Master Fu narrowed his eyes. Yingxiao hadn't appeared for a long time. This poison was domineering and complex, and many poison masters had been defeated by it, including him.

Jiang Bai's face turned pale instantly; perhaps she was truly beyond cure.

At the end of the road, there is no one to save you.

Zhao Yi glanced at her, his eyes gradually filled with regret and pain.

He shouldn't have let her go back to the village alone and go to the herbal medicine shop by herself; otherwise, she wouldn't have contracted the poison.

But how could he watch her die?

He's decided she's the one for him, how could he let her leave?

"Old Fu, I beg you to think of a way. I'm willing to pay any price, even my life!"

He lowered his head and knelt directly in front of Old Master Fu's house.

Jiang Bai was extremely surprised and hurriedly reached out to pull him up: "Zhao Yi, get up. If you can't cure him, you can't cure him. How could you kneel down to him!"

In a place where men are respected, making a man kneel is more than just a humiliation.

Jiang Bai didn't want to see Zhao Yi sacrifice so much for her; he had done enough for her.

But she couldn't pull him, and her efforts were in vain.

"This is my own choice. If you go, I will go with you. I will never let you go, no matter where you are."

Zhao Yi knelt resolutely, and Jiang Bai could not sway him.

She gritted her teeth and knelt down beside him with a thud: "Then I'll kneel with you. I can't bear to watch you die with me."

Zhao Yi glanced at her, his lips moved, and he knew that it would be futile to persuade her, so he simply knelt down wholeheartedly.

They valued each other more than themselves, so how could they give up their principles because of a few words?

Looking at the two kneeling in front of his house, Old Fu shook his head: "Young people, they understand two things the least: one, they don't know the immensity of heaven and earth, and two, they don't know how unpredictable people's hearts are. Tsk tsk tsk tsk."

He went inside and didn't come out again.

Zhao Yi remained silent, as did Jiang Bai.

The two of them remained kneeling, from sunrise to midday, and then to sunset, until the moon had climbed to the middle of the sky.

Jiang Bai's face grew increasingly pale. She had been feeling cold these past few days, and now that the sun had set and the spring chill hadn't faded, she was suffering from both hunger and cold, and was finding it difficult to hold on.

Zhao Yi also noticed that something was wrong with her. He helped her up and said anxiously, "Don't kneel here anymore. Get up and go into the room over there to avoid the cold."

It was a medicine shop, the door was open, and some herbs were planted inside.

Jiang Bai shook his head: "It's alright. We've been kneeling for so long, how can we give up halfway?"

She bit her lip until it bled, sucking out the blood from her mouth, and forced herself to stay awake.

Zhao Yi pursed his lips, about to say something to comfort him, when he felt a weight on his hand.

Jiang Bai couldn't hold on any longer and fainted.

He suddenly panicked. What Old Fu had said during the day had terrified him. He was afraid that once she closed her eyes, she would never wake up again.

"Mr. Fu! Mr. Fu! I beg you, my wife has fainted. I'll kneel for as long as I want, but please save her first!"

He held her in his arms and got up, intending to carry her inside.

However, his legs went numb from kneeling for too long, and he collapsed to the ground.

The moment she fell, he pulled Jiang Bai into his arms and cushioned her fall with his own body.

His face paled, and he struggled to get up.

He intended to break down the door, but before he could even touch it, the door opened.

Old Master Fu was standing inside, and coldly said to him, "Bring him in and put him over there."

He casually pointed to a jade bed next to him and ordered that the person be placed on it.

It turned out that this room was also a pharmacy, filled with many medicinal herbs and jars, and the whole room was filled with the aroma of medicine.

Zhao Yi hurriedly placed Jiang Bai on the jade bed. The jade bed was entirely red and felt hot to the touch; it was Zhang Yan Jade Bed.

After the person was placed on the ice, Jiang Bai's complexion returned to normal and he no longer turned blue or purple from the cold.

Old Fu fiddled with the medicine pot next to him and said in a deep voice, "I dare not cure her poison. If I were to cure it, I could only cure half of it. You would have to find someone else to cure the other half. However, if curing half of it can prolong her life, you should be satisfied."

Upon hearing this, Zhao Yi, though still frowning, understood that Elder Fu had probably done his best and could cure half of the poison. Jiang Bai could hold on until he found someone who could cure the other half.

"I will never forget Mr. Fu's kindness. In the future, if Mr. Fu needs anything from me, I will do my best without any regrets."

Old Fu snorted: "You'd better remember what you said. People who break their promises never have a good ending."

Zhao Yi nodded. As a businessman, he naturally knew the importance of integrity, and he would always keep his word.

Old Master Fu then stopped worrying: "Then you should go to the pharmacy for the night and wait for her to lie on this jade bed until sunrise to get rid of the coldness in my body. Then I will begin to work on detoxifying her."

Zhao Yi thought for a moment and decided to stay: "She doesn't know what might happen later, so I'll stay by her side."

Seeing this, Old Fu didn't insist. If someone wanted to suffer, let them suffer; he couldn't control that.

After saying that, he went out the door.

Only Zhao Yi and Jiang Bai remained in the room. His eyes were full of tenderness as he gently stroked the hair at her temple: "It's alright, everything will be alright."

The night passed just like that, and Jiang Bai woke up precisely at sunrise the next day.

She looked at the jade bed beneath her with great surprise, and then saw Zhao Yi dozing off beside her.

He held her hand in his, and when he felt her hand move, he immediately opened his eyes.

"What's wrong? Is there anything else that's bothering you? Tell me everything, and I'll go see Old Master Fu."

Jiang Bai smiled warmly: "It's alright, you don't need to worry."

Zhao Yi suddenly pulled her into his arms: "Old Fu has promised us, he has promised to save you, you will recover soon."

Jiang Bai was stunned. Last night, when Old Fu said he couldn't cure the disease, he spoke quite seriously and didn't seem to be faking it.

This poison is indeed potent; there's no easy cure for it.

"really?"

"I'm not lying to you."

After the two finished speaking, Old Fu pushed open the door and came in.

He glanced at Jiang Bai and coldly ordered, "Come with me."

Jiang Bai didn't linger and followed Zhao Yi at Zhao Yi's urging.

The three of them went around the house to the back and found that there was a large space there as well, with a strange house standing in the center of the open space.

This is a square courtyard, but the walls are much higher than those of other courtyards, so people outside have no idea what's inside.

The courtyard gate was still locked with a large padlock, making it look very mysterious.

"You can go in and stay for a day."
