Chapter 15 Encounter with a Pack of Wolves

Jiang Bai took Zhao Ping'an's hand and walked home.

Seeing everything Jiang Bai had done, Zhao Ping'an felt quite uneasy. He hadn't expected that Jiang Bai would completely break ties with her family for their sake.

He stared blankly at Jiang Bai for a while, unsure how to start a conversation to ease the tense atmosphere between them.

Jiang Bai was too lazy to offer him a way out. This brat was really stubborn. He ran away from home at the slightest dissatisfaction. He should be left alone for a while so that he would understand that adults have their own considerations!

The two walked back to the village without saying a word.

Just as Jiang Bai reached the village entrance, a woman who hadn't spoken to him before stopped him and asked, "Is your child lost?"

“Yes.” Jiang Bai nodded.

"I just heard someone say that they saw a little girl on the mountain."

Jiang Bai looked in the direction the man was pointing towards the mountain. After staring at it for a few seconds, he turned to the woman and asked, "Who told you that?"

“I don’t know either,” the woman shook her head. “A bunch of people were sitting here chatting, and I only overheard a little bit.”

Although the source of the information was unreliable, Jiang Bai still decided to go up the mountain to take a look.

She first took Zhao Ping'an home and asked Aunt Wang to take care of the child's meals, then went up the mountain without stopping.

This mountain is actually very large. Jiang Bai usually only stays on the outer perimeter and rarely goes into the deepest part.

The mountain path was steep, and Jiang Bai stumbled along. The trees absorbed her sound, so she could only walk a few meters before having to call out.

When Zhao Ping'an and she reached the village entrance, it was nearly noon. By the time they took him home and prepared to head into the mountains, it was already afternoon.

She had only been searching in the mountains for a few hours when it quickly grew dark. At this point, she had already entered the deepest part of the mountains, and turning back was no longer a practical option.

She was also prepared to spend the night in the mountains and began searching for a suitable location to pitch her tent.

She first found a sheltered spot with open, flat land where she could hear the sound of running water, indicating that there was a water source nearby. Before she could even take the tent out of her storage space, she suddenly heard several wolf howls.

There are wolves in the mountains?

Jiang Bai stopped what she was doing. As the wolf howls grew closer, she pursed her lips, searched her spatial storage, and pulled out a wooden stick wrapped in cloth. She then sprinkled some oil on the cloth to make a torch.

As soon as it was lit, pairs of luminous green eyes began to appear from the surrounding bushes.

The wolf is coming.

Jiang Bai held his breath, staring at the pack of wolves in front of him, stretching out his arms to arm his small body, while placing a torch in front of him.

The howling of wolves came from behind, and Jiang Bai's heart sank—it was over, they were surrounded.

She waved the torch in her hand, moving her gaze as far as possible to observe the surrounding terrain.

Because he needed to set up a tent, Jiang Bai specifically chose a flat area without trees. At this moment, the plants in the distance were hidden in the darkness, and there was nowhere to hide around.

Jiang Bai wanted to swear.

Did God arrange for her to transmigrate into a book just to give her an ending where she gets bitten to death by wolves?

Before she could think any further, a gust of wind carrying the stench of animals came from behind her. She turned around, swung her hand, and struck the wolf in the waist with her torch.

The wolf, which had leaped into the air with Jiang Bai's head in mind, was immediately slammed to the ground with a howl.

The wail seemed to have triggered some mechanism, and four or five wolves rushed forward at the same time, attacking from all directions. Jiang Bai's expression tightened, and he gripped the torch tightly in his hand.

Using her experience from the last ten years of the apocalypse, she first dodged to the side a few times, then struck the two wolves hard on the head with her torch. The oil from the torch rubbed onto their fur, and the two wolves quickly caught fire.

Just then, the most powerful wolf king from behind rushed over and pounced on her at almost the speed of light.

The wolf king's mouth was wide open, and Jiang Bai could smell the blood in his breath. The wolf weighed one or two hundred pounds. Her mind went completely blank, and she subconsciously tried to turn over, but she couldn't move at all.

At the critical moment, a long leg suddenly appeared and kicked the wolf king two or three meters away.

Jiang Bai clutched her stomach, suspecting that the wolf king had just trampled on her ribs. After catching her breath, she watched as the man who had saved her drew a sharp sword and chopped off the wolf king's head as easily as chopping vegetables, then stabbed open the bellies of several wolves that tried to approach.

The wolf pack was frightened.

With such a powerful fighter standing there, the remaining few wolves were locked in a stalemate for a few minutes. Then, one of the wolves howled a few times, as if giving a command, and the rest of the wolves faced the two of them and slowly retreated.

Danger struck. Jiang Bai released the torch, which rolled a few times on the ground before the flame went out.

Jiang Bai then realized that her joints were stiff from exerting force for so long. She supported herself with her hands on the ground, stood up, patted the dirt off her clothes, and said weakly, "Thank you."

The man turned his face, and Jiang Bai could finally see his face clearly.

In the dim moonlight, that face was so handsome and dashing, with crescent-shaped eyes, a large and straight nose, and slightly thin lips that were now tightly pursed, looking at her with disdain, as if a celestial being had descended to earth to save her from dire straits.

Jiang Bai's heart skipped a beat as he thought: Who is he?

In a novel, this guy's looks would definitely qualify him for the second or third male lead. It's just a question of whether he or Zhao Yi is more handsome.

Jiang Bai had never met Zhao Yi. To be precise, the original body of hers before she transmigrated had never met Zhao Yi either.

On their wedding day, the original owner wore a veil the entire time. After Zhao Yi led her through the ceremony of bowing to heaven and earth, he didn't even lift the veil. He simply left with the words "I have to go do business," patted his behind, and left, leaving the original owner with two little dirty children who were crying for milk.

Jiang Bai clicked her tongue. No wonder the original owner cheated. If she had a husband like that, she would also choose to beat him up before getting a divorce.

As for the plot of the book that he got after transmigrating, those were all textual descriptions. Jiang Bai didn't think he could piece together the male protagonist's appearance from the few words describing his appearance in the book.

Seeing Jiang Bai staring blankly at him, the man's disdain deepened, and he said, "Coming to the mountains alone in the middle of the night, do you think you have too much time on your hands? You're really stupid and brainless."

Jiang Bai lowered his head in an instant.

She has no interest in men with sharp tongues and does not accept any form of PUA!

She felt weak all over, exhausted and hungry, and too lazy to argue with the person in front of her. She rolled her eyes and walked past him.

Seeing her action, the man was surprised and a hint of curiosity arose in his heart: "Where are you going?"

Jiang Bai pretended to be deaf and unable to hear.

The man strode over to Jiang Bai and walked alongside her. Seeing her slowly move away, he couldn't help but say, "I saved your life, after all. What's with that look on your face?"

Jiang Bai: I'll treat you the way you are.
