And so, at Jiang Bai's insistence, the four decided to enter the village.
However, Jiang Bai did not let Amu and Ayina go in together. She said, "If I go into the village, I can't come out at will. Someone has to go to the city to buy medicine for me. You and Ayina stay outside. Zhao Yi and I will go in together."
This time, she didn't decide to leave Zhao Yi outside and go in alone. Firstly, she felt that he wouldn't listen to her anyway, and secondly, Old Fu's words made some sense; some things need to be faced together in order to grow.
And so, Amu and Ayina were responsible for buying and transporting herbs outside, while the old man at the village entrance was responsible for placing the herbs and letters at a designated location at the village entrance, where Zhao Yi would go to pick them up.
The group divided up their tasks, and Jiang Bai led Zhao Yi into the village. By this time, night had already enveloped the surrounding area.
In a dark corner, Jiang Bai took out a kettle, poured in some white powder, and handed it to Zhao Yi: "Drink some first, drink as much as you can."
This is a medicine made from spiritual liquid; drinking it in advance can prevent infection.
Zhao Yi didn't ask what it was, he just took it and drank half of it, and gave the other half to Jiang Bai.
Once they were ready, the two pushed open the door to the first room.
As soon as the door opened, a foul stench wafted out, and the other two men turned pale and quickly covered their noses.
It's unavoidable that there will be some germs in the air.
Zhao Yi first reached over and lit a lamp, instantly illuminating the room.
By the light, the two could see the person lying on the bed, a middle-aged man whose eyes were closed and whose body was covered in sores. They could only tell that he was not dead by the slight rise and fall of his chest.
"Let's see if there's anyone else."
The two searched the other rooms in the house and found a woman and a child of about twelve or thirteen years old.
The child could still open his eyes. When he saw someone come in, he slowly opened his eyes, but his body was too heavy to move.
Are you... a deity?
His weak voice drifted almost into Jiang Bai's ears. She looked down at him and chuckled softly, "Don't worry, you'll be alright soon."
The woman's illness was milder than the man's, while the boy had the mildest symptoms, possibly because he had only recently been infected.
Jiang Bai gave him some spiritual liquid, which lowered his body temperature. She asked him about a few symptoms, and then he slowly fell asleep.
She then examined the man and woman and roughly determined what medication was needed.
She wrote down the medicinal herbs she needed and had Zhao Yi deliver them, while she continued to look at another family's herbs.
When Zhao Yi returned, she gave him some of the spiritual liquid so he could feed it to the villagers, which could delay their onset of illness.
The two worked all night, and as dawn broke, Amu and Ayina delivered the first batch of medicinal herbs.
They knocked on the doors of several herbal medicine shops in the middle of the night, making quite a commotion.
After Jiang Bai received the medicine, he and Zhao Yi began to brew it.
While inspecting the entire village, they found three children with milder symptoms who were able to move around quickly after being given the elixir, and they joined Jiang Bai in preparing the medicine.
Jiang Bai then discovered that this disease is more likely to affect middle-aged people, while the elderly and children with weaker constitutions are more likely to escape infection.
And so, Jiang Bai used spiritual liquid to brew, feed, and apply the medicine. Every bowl of medicine she drank was brewed with spiritual liquid, and the water she and Zhao Yi drank was also replaced with spiritual liquid.
In about seven days, the epidemic was brought under control, everyone's symptoms improved, and no one died.
Seeing the changes in the village, the old man couldn't help but marvel at Jiang Bai's skill.
Looking at the villagers they had saved, and then at Jiang Bai beside him, Zhao Yi suddenly understood why she had persisted each time.
There are some things that we do even knowing there will be danger, and we won't regret it as long as we do them, no matter what the outcome.
Amu and Ayina, who were outside, gradually smiled as they heard the good news spreading from inside.
"Manager Jiang is really something! She managed to control an epidemic that's always been difficult to manage in such a short time!"
At this moment, Ayina felt immense respect and admiration for Jiang Bai.
Amu chuckled softly: "She's always been like this—kind, intelligent, more resolute and courageous than most, and more capable."
“Master speaks highly of Chief Jiang. I have never heard you praise someone like that before.” Ayina looked at him with some surprise.
Amu's smile faded slightly: "She deserves it."
As soon as he finished speaking, a commotion came from the bushes nearby.
Several sharp sounds rang out, like the slicing of weapons through the air.
A group of soldiers emerged from the jungle and quickly surrounded the two men.
Amu's expression darkened slightly; he didn't know what these people meant.
A man walked in from outside the encirclement; he was a military leader.
"Are you the ones who brought the epidemic under control in this village?"
His expression was arrogant, and his questions were utterly impolite.
Amu said in a deep voice, "What do you want? I haven't broken the law, you have no right to arrest me."
"Rights? I am the right. Now I'm giving you two choices: either hand over the prescription for treating the epidemic, or come back with me to jail and get whipped for premeditated murder! If the people in this village die without receiving treatment, it will be because of you."
Ayina was furious when she heard this; this person was talking complete nonsense!
"Shameless!"
The man's expression changed: "You won't listen to reason, so get on the ground!"
The soldiers immediately began to attack. No matter how skilled Amu and Ayina were in martial arts, they were no match for so many heavily armed soldiers.
At the critical moment, a cold voice came from behind them: "Wait, I have what you want."
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked toward the village entrance. Jiang Bai and Zhao Yi were walking out of the village, which immediately terrified the soldiers.
"Stop! You're not allowed to come out!" the leader immediately shouted at the two men.
They came from a village plagued by disease; who knows if they're carrying the disease?
Jiang Bai raised an eyebrow and stopped in his tracks: "I treated the patients in the village, so I have the prescriptions. They're just bringing me medicine, so don't make things difficult for them."
Upon hearing this, the official immediately believed it to some extent. According to what they had seen, Amu and Ayina had indeed not entered the village, so how could they accurately write out the prescription?
Jiang Bai is clearly not from the village; it's more likely she's a doctor who went in to treat patients.
"Since that's the case, then you'd better be sensible and hand over the prescription."
Zhao Yi frowned, his expression unfriendly, and whispered closer to Jiang Bai: "I don't think they're good people, we can't give them the prescription."
Who knows what they'll do with the prescription, or whether they'll use it to save these villagers?
Jiang Bai shook his head: "There are still two more courses of treatment, which will take about a month to cure the villagers' illnesses. We can't take care of so many people for a whole month. We can only give them the prescription. They don't have the guts to leave those people untreated."
