Chapter 171 County Government Office

After the three finished discussing, they each went back to their rooms to rest.

To save money, the rooms were for two people each, and there were three women in the group, including Jiang Bai, making a total of four.

The other seven were men, and Yuan Mo slept in an extra room by himself.

The guards were arranged by the head guard himself.

The next day, people came and went in an endless stream at the entrance of the government office. By early the following morning, the county government had posted a new notice, raising the reward to 30,000 taels of silver.

Jiang Bai immediately led Yuan Mo and Tong Yan into the county government office, with Yuan Mo as the physician, Tong Yan as the medicine boy, and Jiang Bai as the maid.

The three were thoroughly searched at the door. One of the guards looked at Jiang Bai and kept asking, "Master Mo, this maid looks pretty, but she doesn't seem to know how to do any work."

He looked at her suspiciously, and Jiang Bai felt uncomfortable under his gaze. She looked up at him, smiled, and extended her hand: "I wonder where you got the idea that I can't do any work? These calluses on my hands didn't just appear out of thin air."

The guard, who had been momentarily blinded by her smile, now relaxed his guard upon seeing the calluses on her hands: "It's nothing, but we can't be careless when doing this kind of work, please don't take offense, young lady."

Yuan Mo cupped his hands to the guard and said, "I've spoiled this girl a bit. I apologize to this official. Xiao Bai, quickly apologize to the official."

"Sir, I apologize for my disrespectful words just now." Jiang Bai lowered his head and obediently apologized.

The guard quickly led the group inside, saying, "Come, we can't delay with the general. Please come in with me first."

Yuan Mo then led the two of them into the inner courtyard with the guard.

Yuan Mo's eldest disciple is named Mo Nan. This time, he used his disciple's name. The guard left Jiang Bai outside and only allowed Yuan Mo to take Tong Yan inside.

Jiang Bai pursed his lips from outside. Her strength wasn't low either... it's just that she didn't know Gu techniques.

Although Yuan Mo had intended to teach her during this period, the time was short, and she had not yet achieved much.

She waited listlessly outside the courtyard, where there was a small lake with schools of fish swimming in it and willows swaying on the shore.

She strolled slowly to the lakeside and looked at her reflection in the water, where she could clearly see that she had lost a lot of weight.

"Zhao Yi, you really need to get back to health, you've lost so much weight."

She pinched her face with both hands, and her eyes suddenly dimmed.

She didn't know when she would see Zhao Yi again. Although she had been released, she was still under Li Kejun's control, and her mother was still in his hands.

"Do you know that I have already left the Witch Clan? I wonder when you will receive that letter?"

She looked at the fish on the lake and sighed softly.

She stood by the lake for a while, and then she heard footsteps nearby. Amidst the chaos, one person's steps were unusually steady.

"Young Master Zhao, the new physician in the manor seems to have some solutions."

The speaker was a woman's soft voice, followed by a man's slightly hoarse voice.

"I understand. You can go ahead and get busy. I know the way to the general's compound."

The voice reached Jiang Bai's ears, startling her. That voice... it sounded so familiar...

She turned around by the lake and looked at the end of the path. Two people came from the rocks. The woman was dressed as a maid from the mansion, and the man was dressed in a dark and mysterious black robe.

His face was expressionless, only his eyes were like a pool of indifferent water as he walked forward without any ripples.

Jiang Bai was mostly hidden by a willow tree, so his face was not visible.

Zhao Yi didn't pay much attention, but the woman next to him noticed that her clothes didn't belong to anyone from the manor and immediately shouted, "Who are you, daring to sneak around in my county government manor!"

Her shout caused Zhao Yi to pause in his tracks. Could it be that someone had really trespassed into the government office?

He looked behind the tree and saw that the person was dawdling and refusing to come out, so he frowned and was about to go forward.

Jiang Bai, still in a daze behind the tree, never expected that the person she had just been thinking about would appear in front of her now.

Could it be that the koi in this pond are transformed from celestial fish fairies, who have overheard all her secrets?

She glanced back at the lake behind her; Zhao Yi was already standing in front of her.

He looked at that familiar profile and his breath caught in his throat.

"Bai'er?"

He immediately took a step forward, and the two were very close. Jiang Bai turned his head back and saw the handsome face so close to his.

"Ah..." she exclaimed in surprise, and subconsciously took a step back, about to fall into the lake.

Zhao Yi immediately reached out and hugged her, amused, "You don't recognize me after only half a month?"

He put his arm around her waist and carried her away from the lakeside, only setting her down on the path.

The maid stared at the two's intimate actions, completely stunned: "Young Master Zhao...who is she?"

"This is the woman I mentioned earlier, my wife, Jiang Bai."

Zhao Yi took Jiang Bai's hand, and his gaze toward the maid became indifferent again.

After he finished his introduction, he took Jiang Bai's hand and left.

Jiang Bai glanced at the maid, then looked away, subtly pinching Zhao Yi's hand: "Always good at attracting attention, humph!"

Zhao Yi held her hand even tighter: "I'll explain later. Let's go see the general first."

They both had a lot to say to each other, but there were more important things to do now.

Jiang Bai felt much more at ease after seeing Zhao Yi. She followed him to the small courtyard where she had been stopped from entering earlier.

This time, the guards greeted Zhao Yi, glanced at Jiang Bai whom he was leading, and were surprised, but surprisingly did not stop him.

Zhao Yi pulled her inside, introducing her as he did so: "This is my wife."

Jiang Bai was exasperated; he had said it countless times along the way.

At first, she thought he was genuinely explaining, but later she realized that he was just deliberately trying to introduce himself to everyone.

"I'm not some celebrity. Do you think introducing me to everyone will make you look good?"

She glanced at him with amusement, and Zhao Yi turned his head to look at her, smiling without saying a word.

As soon as the two entered the courtyard, they saw a deputy general accompanying General Lei Ting.

"Deputy General Lin, how is the General now?"

Deputy General Lin was driven out by the people inside. He had a violent temper and probably disturbed the people inside, so he was chased out and paced anxiously back and forth in the courtyard.

"Brother Zhao! You've come at the right time. The doctor who just went in seems to have some skill. Could you go in and take a look for me? Those bastards wouldn't let me in!"

He grabbed Zhao Yi's hand and urged him to go inside. Only then did he see that Zhao Yi was holding someone else's hand.

"This is my wife."

Before Vice General Lin could ask, Zhao Yi said so.

Jiang Bai sighed, gritted his teeth, and shoved a bottle of spiritual liquid into his hand: "Go in and take a look quickly."

Zhao Yi knew she was skilled in medicine and was a little surprised that she didn't go in, but there were many people around, and he didn't want to expose her plans. He then quickly went into the room.

Besides Deputy General Lin, there were other people waiting outside the courtyard, including the county magistrate.
