Chapter 195 Interrogation

Wang He woke up in the middle of the night, but he was completely bound hand and foot and could not move.

The tiny candle flame inside the room flickered wildly, and he could vaguely hear the voices of a man and a woman talking.

Besides Zhao Yi and Jiang Bai, who else is there?

Meanwhile, the two of them also heard the commotion coming from Wang He's side.

"Looks like he's awake." Jiang Bai's lips curled slightly as he and Zhao Yi entered the inner room.

Upon seeing the two, Wang He immediately shouted, "Zhao Yi! Jiang Bai! What are you doing?!"

"How dare you kidnap me?!"

Jiang Bai stepped forward and slowly squatted down in front of Wang He: "Boss Wang, if I were you, I would save my energy and not be so arrogant. You are in our hands now."

Only now did Wang He see Jiang Bai's true colors. It turned out that today's meal was actually a trap.

However, he didn't know what Jiang Bai's purpose was in doing this.

Jiang Bai looked at Wang He and said, "Boss Wang, if you weren't so lecherous, you might have lived a little longer."

Upon hearing this, Wang He's pupils trembled slightly: "You...you want to kill someone?!"

“That’s the idea.” Jiang Bai revealed a strange smile, which made Wang He tremble all over.

"You...you dare!"

"You dare to kill someone right under the emperor's nose?! Besides, I have Imperial Censor Wang behind me. If we're discovered, your entire Zhao family will be executed!"

Wang He tried to intimidate Zhao Yi and Jiang Bai, but what followed was Jiang Bai's undisguised mockery.

"Give me a break," Jiang Bai said dismissively. "If you had said that a few days ago, it might have had some effect, but if I'm not mistaken, the dynasty has already broken ties with you, Wang He."

"It's just because you insisted on cooperating with my Zhao family."

At this point, Jiang Bai shook his head with feigned regret: "If you have someone to blame, blame yourself for being too lecherous."

Zhao Yi walked up with a cold face and took an account book from the table next to him. When Wang He saw the account book, his blood seemed to freeze. He was all too familiar with this thing.

Wang He's forehead veins bulged: "Zhao Yi! Jiang Bai! How dare you steal my Wang family's account books!"

Jiang Bai took the ledger from Zhao Yi, casually flipped through a few pages, and exclaimed, "Lord Wang, you've underpaid quite a bit of taxes this year."

"Tell me, where did all this silver go?"

"And here, when a strange disease suddenly broke out in the capital last time, you seemed to be doing charity, but in reality you were inflating drug prices, causing many people to be unable to afford medicine!"

Jiang Bai became increasingly angry as she spoke. Although she knew she wasn't exactly a good person, she still felt a little compassion.

All that Wang He did was outrageous and aroused the wrath of both gods and men.

"Wang He, if I hand this account book over to the Dali Temple, what do you think will happen to you?"

Wang He stared at Jiang Bai, gritting his teeth: "Jiang Bai, what are your conditions?"

If Jiang Bai intended for him to die, there wouldn't be this situation today, with him tied up here and being told all this.

"It seems you're not too stupid." Jiang Bai smiled, stood up again, and looked down at him: "I'll give you a chance. Tell me the secret of the dynasty, and I'll let you go."

"What a joke! If I told you about the dynasty, would I still have a chance to survive?"

“You can leave the capital. I won’t release you. Even if you leave the capital, with your current status, you can still live a life of seclusion for the next few decades.” Jiang Bai continued, “I think you don’t have a better choice.”

Yes, this is his best option right now.

But Wang He was unwilling to accept this.

"Jiang Bai, what do your grudges with the dynasty have to do with me?!"

"What's it to you?" Jiang Bai seemed to be listening to a joke.

"Do you dare say you haven't had designs on me? Do you think my Zhao family is just going to be manipulated by you?"

Jiang Bai's words pierced his heart with each and every one of them.

Wang He pondered for a moment, and Zhao Yi patted Jiang Bai on the shoulder, signaling her to relax.

Jiang Bai's mood improved slightly after that.

"Boss Wang, you have half an incense stick's time left. If you haven't responded by then, this thing will appear at the Dali Temple," Zhao Yi said coldly, before leaving the house with Jiang Bai.

Inside the room, Wang He kept his head down, his expression unreadable. He had been a powerful figure in the capital for so many years, yet one day he would fall into the hands of these two men.

But what else could he do besides leave the dynasty and the capital?!

Recalling what the White Sun Dynasty had done to him, and how the dynasty had treated him so casually over the years, Wang He's heart sank.

Since that's the case, nobody will have a way out!

Half an incense stick later, the moon gradually sank in the west. The two sat in the courtyard, the cool summer night breeze dispelling the heat of the day.

Zhao Yi glanced at the envoy and said to Jiang Bai, "The time has come."

Jiang Bai got up and went into the house with him. At this moment, Wang He looked up at the two of them and said, "Jiang Bai, you are really a cunning woman."

"Mr. Wang, stop talking nonsense, have you thought it through?"

"Do you keep your word?"

Jiang Bai smiled and said, "Of course."

That night, the candles burned all night, and the two of them did not come out of the house until dawn. Wang He was exhausted and gradually fell asleep.

Holding the confession in his hand, Jiang Bai instructed the servant in the courtyard, "When he wakes up, let him leave."

"I understand."

Jiang Bai glanced at the contents and looked at Zhao Yi: "Now, we can take action against Imperial Censor Wang."

The next day, many guards carrying knives suddenly appeared at the gate of Imperial Censor Wang's residence. These men were all from the Court of Judicial Review.

Wang Chao was drinking tea in the courtyard when this scene startled him.

"Lord Wang, someone has submitted a memorial impeaching you for embezzlement and bribery, as well as for collusion with the rebels. You are now being brought back to the Dali Temple for trial."

"Furthermore, arrest Wang Xuan for me!"

"The matter of Wang Xuan and the deceased girl from the tailor shop in the west of the city will be reopened for trial!"

The teacup in Wang Chao's hand fell to the ground with a thud and shattered.

He stood up in a panic: "What on earth is going on?"

"Lord Wang, this is His Majesty's order. As for what it is all about, we are just following orders."

The Emperor's order?

Wang Chao was very uneasy. He had been meticulous in his work, so could it be that someone in the court had turned against him?

However, he also had excellent resilience, and without changing his expression, he left the palace with the people from the Dali Temple.

At the entrance, Zhao Yi and Jiang Bai were watching from not far away.

"It's definitely more reliable to leave this matter to Lei Yun."

Zhao Yi said noncommittally, "This is a matter for their court. If the intelligence is not true, General Lei will not act rashly."

"Bai'er, this matter has nothing to do with us."

"That's natural."
