Chapter 69 Rescue

The woman who just went in was so beautiful that everyone shook their heads in disbelief when they recalled her appearance earlier.

But a short while later, Jiang Bai came out again with the woman. They walked side by side, one pure and innocent and the other charming, they were simply a beautiful sight.

Jiang Bai asked, "Why did you ask me to come out?"

The woman smiled and said, "My parents have noticed the changes in me and want to express their gratitude to you."

Then everyone realized that there was an elderly couple standing at the door. The couple was wearing tattered robes and holding a huge plaque. The plaque was covered with cloth, so the words written on it could not be seen.

Seeing their daughter come out, the couple breathed a sigh of relief and bowed to Jiang Bai beside them.

Jiang Bai quickly went over and helped the two of them up: "What are you doing? Don't be so polite."

The couple wept tears of gratitude: "Mr. Jiang, thank you for curing my daughter's birthmark. It's like giving her a second life!"

When she returned home yesterday, her family didn't recognize her until they heard her familiar voice and she shared a few little secrets that only their daughter knew. Only then did the family dare to confirm her identity.

—So, she was this beautiful before she had the birthmark.

Jiang Bai's daughter had only been back for half a day when the whole village came to visit. Everyone was amazed by Jiang Bai's superb medical skills and his daughter's beauty. Previously, getting her married had been a major problem for her.

In just half a day, three matchmakers have secretly hinted that the girl should not get engaged casually, as they have reserved the best men for her family.

It seems that once the birthmark was removed, all the family's distress disappeared.

The woman's feelings were even more intense. Not to mention the infatuated gazes of strangers, even her brother and sister-in-law became much kinder to her.

Especially her sister-in-law, who usually has a bad temper, saw how beautiful she was and knew that she must have married well, so she gave her an extra chicken leg at dinner!

You should know that she hadn't eaten chicken legs for the previous seven or eight years; those were reserved for her little nephew.

The elderly couple in front of Jiang Bai straightened up and peeled off the cloth covering the plaque in their hands, revealing four large characters: "Hua Tuo in the World".

They said, "We country folk don't have much money, but we rushed to make this plaque overnight. We hope Mr. Jiang won't find it distasteful."

Jiang Bai was too moved to even think about it.

Although the plaque didn't have many designs, finding such a large piece of wood of the same color to piece together was no easy task. When she touched it, the splinters on the wood were all worn away.

Jiang Bai could imagine that the couple hadn't slept all night to make this sign. Even though they were from a rural area and didn't have much education, they had to consult the village scholar to carefully transfer the four characters onto the finished wood.

After it was finished, the three of them carried the huge plaque for dozens of miles along mountain roads, finally delivering it to Jiang Bai's door.

Seeing that Jiang Bai's affection was genuine, the woman breathed a sigh of relief and took out a bag of silver from her bosom.

She said, "I asked about the price of one-on-one private services at the beginning, but I was really short of money, so I shamelessly begged for your help. This is all the money I have now, and I will return the rest as soon as possible."

Jiang Bai quickly refused: "The plaque is enough. We didn't say we needed your money back then."

"No." The woman gritted her teeth and handed it over again.

The elderly couple, watching from the side, also said, "Master Jiang, please accept it."

Jiang Bai had no choice but to accept.

This incident made Jiang Bai famous overnight.

-

That evening, after Jiang Bai closed his shop, on his way home, he suddenly heard a low moaning sound coming from a nearby alley.

She didn't want to get involved in these matters, fearing it would get her and her family into trouble. But thinking about the plaque the woman's parents had given her during the day, she gritted her teeth and took a step back to go inside and check on the situation.

There was only a pool of blood in the alley, which looked like human blood. Jiang Bai took a closer look and suddenly someone pressed something sharp against her back.

The man said in a deep voice, "Don't move, or my knife won't have eyes."

Jiang Bai tilted his head slightly, glancing at the man out of the corner of his eye, and pleaded, "I won't move, I'm just a passerby. Are you injured? Do you need my help?"

"No need." The man's voice was cold, yet also weak.

Seeing that the newcomer was a frail woman, he unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief and withdrew the knife in his hand slightly.

Jiang Bai felt the pressure behind him disappear, so he quickly lurched forward and then immediately turned around to face the man.

Seeing her quick movements, the man realized she clearly knew some martial arts, and he tensed up instantly. Despite his pain, he gritted his teeth and attacked with his knife.

In a split second, Jiang Bai's mind went blank. Relying on his body's instincts, he kicked the knife out of the man's hand and then kicked him in the process.

The man coughed up a mouthful of blood and fell heavily to the ground, unconscious.

Jiang Bai stood there helplessly for a while. In this situation, she had no choice but to save the person.

She dared not move the patient casually. She first observed him in place. He had been stabbed in the chest. The wound was deep, but fortunately it did not hit any vital organs.

Jiang Bai carefully lifted the man's clothes, and the man groaned softly again, apparently having aggravated his wound. Jiang Bai instinctively looked towards the alley entrance; if someone came at this moment, her innocence would be in danger.

She wasn't afraid of being misunderstood as having an affair; she was afraid of being misunderstood as having killed someone.

The man exposed the injured area on his chest, and Jiang Bai immediately drew out his spiritual liquid to slowly wash the wound.

The elixir has an amazing effect on the skin. The woman who had her birthmark treated used both internal and external methods. Jiang Bai diluted the elixir and controlled the dosage, and the birthmark was completely removed in just over a month.

Now she was generous, and the pure, unadulterated spiritual liquid continuously repaired the man's wound. After washing for a quarter of an hour, the wound became very shallow.

She fed the man several more mouthfuls of spiritual liquid, but seeing that he still showed no signs of waking up, she reached out and pressed on his abdomen.

She was afraid that her kick had broken the man's ribs.

Fortunately, her ribs were fine. Just as she was about to pull her hand back, a familiar male voice came: "What are you doing?"

Jiang Bai looked up and saw that the person who came was not Zhao Yi, and inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief.

She didn't know what she had to feel guilty about. Besides, she was treating a man's injuries, and Zhao Yi and she weren't really husband and wife. Even if she really fell for someone else, what was wrong with that?

The newcomer was the shop's young prodigy. He pointed tremblingly at the man on the ground and asked incredulously, "Who is this?"

Jiang Bai beckoned to him, bringing the man over. Only then did Jin Tong notice a long knife wound on the man's chest, and that he was unconscious.

Just as he breathed a sigh of relief, he heard Jiang Bai's excited voice: "You've come at the right time. I was just wondering how to carry him back."
