love at first sight

love at first sight

Yun Qian gazed quietly at Lin Huaiyu, her clear, cold eyes seeming to shimmer with light. After a long while, she suddenly asked in a low voice, seemingly out of the blue, "You're not with them?"

"A group?" Lin Huaiyu seemed somewhat surprised. He gently tapped the jade-bone fan he held in his right hand against his left palm, producing a rhythmic sound. Then he chuckled and shook his head. "When did I say that I was in cahoots with them?"

Yun Qian frowned.

Lin Huaiyu leaned slightly closer, her expression inquisitive: "You've been thinking about this the whole time?"

Yun Qian shook her head.

She couldn't completely trust Lin Huaiyu, but strangely enough, she didn't feel any strong aversion or distrust towards him. At least so far, she hadn't sensed any hostility from Lin Huaiyu towards her or Cangmin Mountain.

However, this does not mean that Lin Huaiyu is a safe and harmless being. After all, he is a nine-tailed god who may have inherited the bloodline of the ancient gods. Facing such a mysterious and powerful being, one should never be careless.

"Then tell me, what were you thinking just now?" Lin Huaiyu softened her voice, asking again with a gentle, persuasive tone.

Yun Qian actually began to seriously consider his words. But her thoughts were in turmoil, a thousand threads swirling in her mind. What could she possibly say to him? That she was not of this world? That she knew the predetermined fate of this world? Or that Cangmin Mountain, seemingly peaceful now, was actually in a precarious and difficult situation?

There seems to be nothing that can be spoken aloud, nor any reason that absolutely must be said.

"There's nothing to say," she finally replied simply.

"How can there be nothing to say?" Lin Huaiyu persisted, her tone carrying just the right amount of grievance. "You only come out like this once in a long time, while I wander around the woods outside your courtyard every day, and only by chance did I run into you this once."

He paused, raised his hand and gently pressed the rib of his fan against his forehead, feigning sadness, and even exaggeratedly wiped away non-existent tears, accusingly saying, "We finally managed to meet, but all you said was that there was nothing to say. Miss Yun, you are truly heartless."

Watching the person in front of her perform such a wonderful singing and acting, Yun Qian's face clearly showed the word "absurd".

“We…” she paused, somewhat speechless, then emphasized, “It seems we’re not very close, are we?”

“Precisely because we’re not familiar with each other, we should get to know each other better,” Lin Huaiyu readily agreed, smiling like a sly fox.

Looking at him like this, Yun Qian pursed her lips slightly and finally asked the question that had been lingering in her mind: "Why do you always want to see me?"

Lin Huaiyu answered crisply and directly, her gaze almost frank: "Because I am very interested in you."

"Why are you so interested in me?" Yun Qian pressed.

"Because you're good-looking." He answered matter-of-factly, his eyes clear and devoid of any disrespect, as if he were simply stating a truth as natural as the alternation of the sun and moon.

Yun Qian didn't believe this almost childish explanation. However, this was precisely Lin Huaiyu's truest thought at that moment. He was indeed attracted by Yun Qian's appearance, or rather, from that fleeting glimpse at the inn, an indescribable feeling had quietly taken root—it was love at first sight.

As the largest sect in the cultivation world, Tianyan Mountain possesses abundant wealth and is dedicated to perfecting the scenery throughout the mountain. Therefore, even this grove near the guest courtyard is arranged with winding paths and lush vegetation, possessing a unique tranquil and elegant beauty under the moonlight.

At this moment, the bright moonlight flowed like mercury, gently sprinkling on the layered treetops, and through the gaps in the branches and leaves, casting mottled light and shadow on the ground, like shattered crystals scattered on the ground.

Through the flickering, dim moonlight, Yun Qian gazed at Lin Huaiyu, who was so close to her. He was exceptionally handsome, with delicate features like a fairy in a painting, yet his eyes exuded a languid and romantic charm.

The fox spirit was indeed beautiful and adept at bewitching people. Yun Qian thought to herself, no wonder she was always said to be able to bewitch people.

Lin Huaiyu seemed to notice her scrutiny. Her beautiful eyebrows and eyes were slightly raised. Instead of avoiding her gaze, she generously allowed her eyes to linger on her face, a faint smile playing on her lips.

But Yun Qian's thoughts drifted far away at that moment.

She wondered if such beautiful trees could grow in a place as cold and harsh as Cangmin Mountain. Perhaps only cold-resistant pines and cypresses could be planted. If one wanted to have an elegant forest landscape like Tianyan Mountain, it would probably require a lot of effort and the installation of a large-scale constant-temperature array.

Just as she was about to say something, a strange sound came from the depths of the dense forest behind her without warning!

It sounded like a withered branch being broken, mixed with an extremely unnatural sound like cloth being torn.

Yun Qian's gaze suddenly darkened as she looked towards the source of the sound. At the same time, Lin Huaiyu's relaxed smile vanished, clearly indicating that he had also noticed the unusual commotion.

"I'll go take a look." Lin Huaiyu spoke very quickly. Before he finished speaking, his tea-white figure had already blurred and disappeared like a wisp of smoke, his speed was astonishing.

Yun Qian reacted only two seconds late. Her spiritual energy surged slightly, and her pale yellow figure shot out silently like an arrow, following closely behind.

Deep in the dense forest, on a small clearing, the situation was eerie.

A young man dressed in the attire of a core disciple of Tianyan Mountain, none other than Su Qing, was kneeling on one knee, his right index and middle fingers pressed deeply into the ground. Centered on his fingertips, a complex array outlined by dazzling spiritual light appeared out of thin air, rapidly expanding and trapping a constantly churning and twisting mass of dense black energy at its core!

"You audacious demon, how dare you trespass on my Tianyan Mountain!" Su Qingqing shouted, his voice icy. Without hesitation, he raised his hand and bit his fingertip, drawing a bead of crimson blood. He swiftly flicked the blood into a crucial rune node of the formation. Empowered by the blood essence, the entire Demon-Binding Formation shone brightly, its oppressive power multiplying!

The black mist trapped within the formation seemed to possess a life of its own, emitting silent shrieks as it thrashed about, like a frightened monkey, frantically crashing against the barrier of light in an attempt to break free. However, the barrier formed of spiritual light was indestructible; no matter how it pounded against it, it was all in vain, unable to budge it even an inch!

High on a tree branch, Yun Qian, like a light, falling leaf, crouched silently. Her left hand rested casually on the rough trunk, her gaze intently scrutinizing the array set up by Su Qing below, a barely perceptible hint of approval flashing in her cool eyes.

Demon-binding array.

It seems that among the cultivators of Tianyan Mountain, not all of them are merely empty names.
