People who add bricks and tiles

People who add bricks and tiles

As senior brothers and sisters, they couldn't keep making fun of their junior brother. Bai Chuan knew when to stop. He snapped his jade fan shut and casually took out a yellowed old medical book from his Qiankun bag. He lowered his eyes and began to study it carefully, as if the surrounding noise had nothing to do with him.

Yun Qian gazed listlessly at the vast Wuji Platform below, her eyes sweeping over the eager young cultivators. Just then, a very slight disturbance flashed deep within her spiritual realm.

From above.

The feeling was fleeting, yet it clearly told her that there was a hidden spiritual energy flowing quietly in the space above the Wuji Platform, constructing something.

Yun Qian was alert, but her expression remained unchanged. She did not rashly spread her spiritual sense to investigate. Instead, as if she had been sitting for a long time and was feeling a little tired, she naturally raised her arms, stretched her waist, and tilted her head back, her gaze seemingly unintentionally sweeping over the sky above her head.

Upon seeing this, her pupils contracted almost imperceptibly.

Above the Wuji Platform, a jade platform had appeared out of nowhere, upon which nine exquisitely carved and imposing chairs were neatly arranged.

What's even more alarming is that those nine chairs were already full of people! How could no one have noticed when they appeared?

Yun Qian immediately pretended to have just discovered it, showing a perfectly timed look of surprise on her face, while her gaze quickly swept over the nine people.

Her gaze moved slowly, inquisitive, and finally settled on the chair on the far right.

There, Lin Huaiyu sat languidly, his tea-white robe fluttering gently in the breeze. He seemed to have been waiting for a long time, his gaze unabashedly fixed on her. When their eyes met, the corners of his lips curved into a smile, which rippled outwards like a pebble thrown into a lake, carrying a hint of amusement and a touch of profound meaning.

At this moment, many people in the audience also noticed the newly appeared viewing platform, and exclamations of surprise and discussion arose.

Yun Qian was the first to look away, unwilling to engage in this silent exchange with him in front of everyone.

She turned to the center of the nine chairs. In the center was a handsome and dignified man, wearing the iconic white and gold cloud-patterned robe of the Tianyan Mountain sect leader, with a gentle and refined smile on his face.

The head of Tianyan Mountain, Sili.

Yun Qian looked at him, and the original book's description of this person immediately came to mind: "On the surface, he is gentle and understanding, but in reality, he is the most calculating and ruthless. He often takes people's lives while talking and laughing, and even if blood is splattered on his face, his smile will not change in the slightest."

The cold words transformed into concrete images, sending a chill down her spine. Just as her thoughts were churning, Sili's gaze pierced through the crowd and landed precisely on her!

With thousands of cultivators below the stage, countless eyes were focused on him, but he spotted Yun Qian at a glance.

Yun Qian felt a chill run down her spine, but her face remained calm and composed as she subtly shifted her gaze. She wasn't afraid of Si Li, but at this moment, there was absolutely no need to attract his attention. After all, the label of that eccentric cultivator from Cangmin Mountain whose cultivation level couldn't be determined was already conspicuous enough.

Fortunately, with nine important figures hovering in the air, she had other options to observe.

Among them, one woman stood out. Dressed in a bright red gauze gown, she resembled a blazing flame, seated gracefully on the high platform. A radiant and flamboyant smile played on her lips. Occasionally, a mountain breeze would blow, lifting the hem of her gown, making her appear ethereal and otherworldly, yet also exuding a captivating charm.

Baili Xi, the head of Lingxiao Mountain. Another important female character in the book.

Having lived here for a hundred years, witnessing sunrises and sunsets, and experiencing the camaraderie among fellow disciples—all of this felt so real that Yun Qian had subconsciously come to regard this place as a truly real world.

But when these main characters from the original book appear vividly before my eyes, the corresponding textual descriptions uncontrollably flood my mind.

Their appearance and demeanor were exactly as described in the book. This realization was like a cold needle, piercing the sense of reality she was trying to maintain, as if silently reminding her, "Look, this is just a world constructed by a book, not reality."

Perhaps everything before her eyes was just a dream? Or perhaps it was just a long fantasy deep within her consciousness?

A torrent of chaotic thoughts surged back, engulfing her in layers of self-doubt. Yun Qian instinctively rejected these emotions. She steadied herself, a hint of stubbornness barely perceptible in her voice, and thought, if it's truly a dream, then wait until I wake up; if it's an illusion, then wait until the day I'm completely driven mad. Right now, there's no need to be troubled by this.

She lowered her eyelashes slightly, no longer looking at the nine chairs high above.

This wasn't an escape; it was just that she no longer had the will to match each of the remaining six faces to one of them.

In short, apart from Lin Huaiyu, whose origins are shrouded in mystery, the rest of those sitting there are all important characters in the original book. They are all meritorious figures who either fueled the flames or stood by and watched coldly on the road to the destruction of Cangmin Mountain.

However, if this place really is just a book… A cold glint flashed in Yun Qian’s eyes. That would actually make things simpler. The portrayal of the villains in the book was incredibly vivid; their methods and schemes were still fresh in her memory. As long as she could avoid them precisely, she might be able to turn the tide.

She wasn't sure to what extent her actions would affect the so-called main storyline, but in any case, her future situation couldn't be worse than Cangmin Mountain being roasted over a fire and surrounded by wolves.

Bai Chuan, who was standing to the side, had also turned his gaze away. He turned his head and found that Yun Qian and Qin Wu had not continued to pay attention to the sky.

Qin Wu didn't look at them because, to him, the people on the stage were no different from pebbles on the roadside—unimportant and not worth a glance.

Bai Chuan coughed a few times, covering his mouth, and regained his composure. He stopped looking up at the high platform that symbolized power and status and turned his attention back to the medical book in his hands, as if every word on it was more worthy of his study than the people in the sky.

Unbeknownst to anyone, in the most inconspicuous corner at the very edge of the Wuji Platform, a wisp of extremely faint black mist, almost blending into the shadows, snaked past stealthily and swiftly like a living venomous snake. It silently entered the body of a disciple who was at the end of the line and looked somewhat dazed, and vanished without a trace in an instant.
