In the dead of night, a sharp, piercing horn blast shattered the tranquility of Tianyan Mountain without warning.
Yun Qian had just fallen asleep when she was suddenly awakened by the sound, all sleepiness gone. Her wary gaze instantly fell upon the deep night outside. She quickly put on her clothes, got up, and pushed open the door.
Almost simultaneously, the doors of the two adjacent rooms opened. Qin Wu and Bai Chuan appeared under the eaves, and the three of them met in the courtyard in tacit agreement, all listening silently to the horns echoing through the valley, one urgent blast after another.
Bai Chuan coughed twice, breaking the silence, his voice hoarse from just waking up: "This is...?"
"You've confessed without being asked," Yun Qian said succinctly, a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes.
It seems that the sect that attacked them first has no intention of silently swallowing this humiliation to cover it up. They intend to use this as an excuse to escalate the situation completely.
Tianyan Mountain had clearly employed a special sound transmission array. The horn sound emanated from the main hall at the mountain's peak, spreading out layer by layer and precisely reaching every corner at the foot of the mountain. In an instant, the entire Tianyan Mountain seemed to be enveloped by this sound, which was filled with warning and unease.
The horn blared incessantly, showing no sign of stopping, which was incredibly irritating. Yun Qian frowned impatiently, raised her hand and drew a purification talisman in the air. With a flash of light at her fingertips, the talisman silently adhered to her ear, instantly blocking out all the noise.
Seeing this, Qin Wu and Bai Chuan immediately followed suit. Silence returned to their ears, but the turmoil in their hearts had not subsided.
Yun Qian's thoughts raced. With over a dozen late-stage Nascent Soul disciples killed, the first thing the perpetrator would do in their anger would undoubtedly be to do everything in their power to find the "murderer."
For Cangminshan, the murderer was practically an open secret.
He attempted assassination, and was then killed in retaliation.
Yun Qian pursed her lips. Bai Chuan was always meticulous and thorough in his work, so naturally he wouldn't leave any clear evidence at the scene. But if the other party was determined to frame her, they would definitely try every means to fabricate evidence if they couldn't find any. They had to prepare in advance, just in case.
Logically speaking, since the other party has made such a commotion, their next step would naturally be to search their yard, and they might even go further and demand a body search.
Yun Qian frowned slightly. The best strategy was to remain still while the enemy moved.
Now, all we have to do is wait.
Wait for the other party to come to you.
The piercing horn sounded for the time it takes for an incense stick to burn before gradually subsiding. However, this silence did not last long. Outside the courtyard, a series of dense and orderly footsteps came clearly from afar.
Sensing someone approaching, Yun Qian turned her head first, her cool gaze fixed on the courtyard gate.
"Knock knock knock".
The knocking sounded, neither too loud nor too soft, yet it carried an undeniable air of authority.
Yun Qian walked over unhurriedly and reached out to open the courtyard gate.
Outside the gate stood a group of disciples dressed in the standard white cloud-patterned Taoist robes of Tianyan Mountain, their expressions solemn. Yun Qian recognized the one in the lead; he was Yun Weibian, the chief disciple of Sili.
Sili has many disciples, and Yun Weibian is not the strongest in combat. However, his mastery of formations is unparalleled in the entire Tianyan Mountain. Sili specially sent him here, and his intention is self-evident. He must be extremely curious about the layers upon layers of formations in this courtyard, so many that even a mosquito flying by could leave a trace, and he wants to take this opportunity to investigate.
Upon seeing Yun Qian, Yun Weibian bowed slightly, displaying a humble demeanor and speaking with impeccable discretion: "I am Yun Weibian of Tianyan Mountain. I have come to disturb you so late at night, but it is truly out of necessity. A major incident has occurred within the sect, causing widespread panic. To ensure the smooth progress of the Immortal Sect Competition and the safety of fellow Daoists from all sects, I have been ordered by my master to conduct this investigation. I hope that this fellow Daoist from Cangmin Mountain will be accommodating and cooperate."
His words both highlighted the seriousness of the situation and humbled himself, making it difficult for anyone to refuse him directly.
Yun Qian's face revealed just the right amount of curiosity and worry: "I've been listening to this horn sound for quite a while, and I'm feeling uneasy. Senior Brother Yun, what major event has occurred?"
Yun Weibian's expression was solemn as he replied in a deep voice, "The demon race has become increasingly rampant lately, daring to infiltrate my Tianyan Mountain and cruelly murdering eighteen of our inner disciples today!"
"Demons?" Yun Qian frowned slightly, her gaze seemingly unintentionally sweeping over Qin Wu and Bai Chuan in the courtyard, their eyes meeting for a fleeting moment.
However, now was not the time for discussion, so they could only suppress their doubts for the time being.
Yun Weibian continued, his tone resolute and unwavering: "This matter concerns the safety of all the disciples participating in the Immortal Sect Competition, and Tianyan Mountain dares not be negligent in the slightest. Therefore, we are disturbing you late at night, and we hope that our friends from Cangmin Mountain will forgive us and cooperate with our search and inspection."
"Search the hospital?"
So openly and confidently stating it? However, this was within Yun Qian's expectations. Her face showed no sign of panic; in fact, she nodded with understanding, stepped aside to make way, and calmly waved her hand: "In that case, search us. We should cooperate."
"Well..." Yun Weibian seemed surprised that Yun Qian agreed so readily. He paused for a moment before cupping his hands and saying, "I'm sorry to offend you."
Yun Qian leaned lazily against the door frame, her tone indifferent, as if it were none of her business: "Of course, of course. It concerns the whereabouts of the demons, so we certainly cannot be careless."
Yun Weibian gave her a deep look: "Thank you for your understanding, fellow Daoist."
"No need to thank me," Yun Qian said, a faint and enigmatic smile playing on her lips. "Search freely."
With permission granted, the disciples of Tianyan Mountain immediately filed in and began searching the four courtyards with swift yet methodical movements. They examined the ground, sensed residual spiritual energy, and carefully inspected the walls of the buildings, working diligently and enthusiastically.
In contrast, the three from Cangmin Mountain remained calm and composed. Yun Qian leaned against the door, Qin Wu stood under the eaves with his sword, eyes closed in meditation, while Bai Chuan had somehow already sat down at the stone table, leisurely brewing a pot of fresh tea. Amidst the fragrant aroma of tea, none of them truly took the elaborate search by the Tianyan Mountain disciples to heart.
Yun Weibian did not personally participate in the search. His gaze lingered more on the layout of the courtyard and the faint traces of the array, his eyes occasionally flashing with contemplation and amazement. However, when he saw the completely indifferent, even somewhat leisurely, demeanor of Cang Minshan and the other two, he already understood.
These three people weren't afraid of being searched at all.
