Chapter 21: Sick Again

Li Jiaran sat there in a daze, knowing full well that this time it was all over. Having offended the Wen family, her family was in tatters. Tears welled up in her eyes, slowly trickling down her cheeks. Her hair was clung to her tears, and she looked truly pitiful.

But no one would care about her anymore. Once the Li family fell, she would have no one to lean on, and her life would be difficult. Perhaps someone she had offended in the past would come and seek revenge. Li Jiaran thought about this possibility, and recalled the experience of using her family background to bully others. Her body began to tremble uncontrollably.

She thought of Wen Hangxing again, and hatred flashed in her eyes. Why had she chased him for so long, giving up all her dignity, but in the end, he still couldn't even look at her? Now the only way was to ask Wen Hangxing to let her go. Li Jiaran rolled her eyes. It would be better to become the young lady of the Wen family. As she thought so, a big smile appeared on the corner of her mouth. If someone noticed her expression at this moment, they would definitely be startled by her almost crazy smile.

Wen Hangxing, who was targeted by her, was thinking about how big the incident had become. He was worried that Lin Yitang might find out about it, so he said to Yan Junqi: "I need to go back. Please keep an eye on that person."

Yan Junqi was stunned for a moment, then replied, "No problem." After hesitating for a moment, he added, "If she finds out, you... go back and counsel her."

They both knew that Ms. Lin had been wronged. Regardless, she had come to school for Wen Hangxing, and that was the reason she was being criticized. It was only right that Wen Hangxing should look after her.

Wen Hangxing returned home in a hurry. As soon as he entered the door, he saw that no one was in the familiar place. After looking around, he found that even the housekeeper who usually came out to greet him when he came back was not there. He was shocked and his mind was full of thoughts. He couldn't help but think: Could it be that she knew about this and something happened?

He paced anxiously back and forth, his face showing an impatience that he himself hardly noticed. Wen Hangxing had already prepared for the worst when he heard a surprised voice from behind him, "Master, you're back."

Wen Hangxing looked back and saw Aunt Wang looking at him in surprise. He could no longer care about anything else and asked hurriedly, "Where is she?"

"Hmm?" Aunt Wang realized he was talking about the Madam and said evasively, "You mean the Madam, right? She's in the garden basking in the sun."

Wen Hangxing narrowed his eyes, noticing something was wrong with her expression. A chill grew in his heart, and he lowered his voice, "What happened to her?!"

Aunt Wang was startled by his expression and had no choice but to confess everything: "Madam...is having a party in the garden."

"Huh?" Wen Hangxing's expression froze, and he rarely doubted his hearing. "Party?"

"Yes, yes." Aunt Wang avoided his gaze. "Madam asked me to come to the kitchen to get some... ingredients."

Wen Hangxing subconsciously ignored the last two words. Only then did he notice that Aunt Wang was holding a bamboo basket covered with a layer of gauze.

He didn't pay much attention to the contents, thinking they were just pastries or something, but he was still a little worried about Lin Yitang, so it would be better to see her in person, so he turned and walked towards the garden.

"Hey, young master." Aunt Wang saw that he was going in the wrong direction and guessed that he was going to the garden. Thinking of the current situation in the garden, Aunt Wang gritted her teeth and stopped Wen Hangxing in a hurry.

Wen Hangxing frowned and looked at her, feeling that something was wrong with her today and that there must be a ghost in the garden. Without waiting for her to speak, he ignored her attempt and strode towards the garden.

Aunt Wang was left behind. Looking at Wen Hangxing's swift back, she sighed, "Hey, what's wrong with the young master today? He usually stays as far away from Madam as possible, but why is he so abnormal today? If I saw the scene in the garden, I couldn't imagine the scene."

Fearing something might happen to Lin Yitang, Wen Hangxing headed for the garden as quickly as possible. Vast swathes of lavender blossomed in the flower fields, creating soft waves of purple in the breeze. The swaying bouquets of flowers made the garden appear dreamy and hazy.

Wen Hangxing stood at the arched doorway and gradually stopped. Even if he tried his best to ignore her, he had to admit that he didn't dare to see Lin Yitang. He was afraid of seeing her disappointed eyes, afraid of being blamed by her, and afraid that she would hate him because of this.

The desire for destruction in my heart raged again, with endless pain and regret. A voice in my heart kept urging me: "Leave, you won't get love, leave, you won't get love, never."

The narrow and dark room, the dirty blood-stained floor, the vicious and noisy laughter, and the unpleasant smell of decay, every scene seemed to be happening right in front of him, causing Wen Hangxing's stomach to cramp and he had an urge to vomit.

Wen Hangxing fell to his knees uncontrollably, sinking into an inexplicable depression, his hands buried deep in the soil, as if he couldn't feel the pain.

An unknown amount of time had passed, but just when he was about to compromise, Wen Hangxing suddenly heard a familiar laugh, a clear and full of vitality.

His eyes became clearer, Wen Hangxing struggled to stand up, and slowly walked in. As soon as he entered, he saw the bustling scene in the pavilion.

The Wen family father and son both preferred quietness. Aside from the dozen or so servants who maintained the estate and attended to their needs, the manor was rarely visited by anyone. Over time, the servants naturally understood their quiet nature and rarely appeared outside of set times. Today was the first time Wen Hangxing had seen such a large gathering: the housekeeper, gardener, cook, driver, and several maids were all present.

More than a dozen people each had their own duties with clear division of labor. Some grilled meat, some made drinks, and even the butler brought out his precious antique gramophone and started playing disco.

Wen Hangxing searched for a long time before he found the person he wanted to see in a secluded corner. He saw that person lying leisurely on a large and comfortable recliner, watching everyone busying around leisurely, and he was not at all as depressed as he thought.

Lin Yitang felt that someone was watching her. When she looked back, she found Wen Hangxing standing not far away.

Huh? Why is he back?

Lin Yitang waved at him as a greeting, but then he noticed Wen Hangxing walking towards him.

Some of the others who were working on the project subconsciously stopped when they saw him approaching, seeming a bit hesitant. The atmosphere became tense, not as relaxed as it had been at the beginning. Perhaps only Lin Yitang and the housekeeper showed no change of mood.

When he stood in front of Lin Yitong, Wen Hangxing didn't know what to say. He stared at the barbecue grill next to him. He finally understood why Aunt Wang was evasive just now. It turned out that she was afraid that he would find out that they were having a barbecue in the garden.

However, Wen Hangxing looked around and finally asked, "Who chose this place?"
