Chapter 31: Old Cow Eating Young Grass

Yan Junqi found it very strange. He usually appeared to be a sociable, enthusiastic and cheerful person in front of others, but his inherent world-weariness and indifference were only slightly less than Wen Hangxing's. It was only because of his cynical nature that he prevented others from discovering his true character.

In other words, except for a few close people who know how bad he is at heart, others may not have a clear understanding.

But Yan Junqi had an inexplicable feeling that Lin Yitang seemed to see through him. Aristocratic family members hated someone who saw through them completely, as this could be dangerous. But Yan Junqi noticed that if this person was Lin Yitang, he didn't seem offended or worried. Why was that? Yan Junqi fell into deep thought.

In fact, Lin Yitong did not see through Yan Junqi. She was naturally sensitive and easily noticed the incongruity in Yan Junqi. But then she changed her mind and thought, how could someone who could hang out with the son of luck be so innocent and have no shame behind the scenes? So she treated him with an ordinary attitude.

Lin Yitang's cell phone suddenly rang, and Lin Yitang picked it up, "Hello."

A familiar voice came through the phone, a little distorted, but Lin Yitang could still easily identify it as Wen Zeli. "It's me. Are you at Wen Hangxing's place now?"

Lin Yitong was not surprised at how he got the news. After all these days since she came to this world, Lin Yitong had long discovered how strong Wen Zeli's desire for control was. As long as he wanted to know about any big or small things in the family, he would definitely get the information first. He might have gotten the news about Wen Hangxing last night.

"Yes, I'm going to deliver food to them. Do you need me to hand him the phone?" Lin Yitang asked.

There was silence for a moment, and Wen Zeli replied: "No need, tell him that I will handle this matter with the Li family, and let Li Jiaran handle it as he pleases."

The hidden meaning in these calm words was chilling, but Lin Yitang seemed unaffected and spoke in a normal tone. Of course, this was also because she didn't quite understand the Wen family's methods. "Okay, is there anything else?"

Wen Zeli let out a sigh from his throat, and thought helplessly: How much does she dislike me?

"It's okay. By the way, thank you this time." Wen Hangxing didn't make things difficult for her. He thought for a moment and added.

Anyone with a little more intelligence would know that they should seize the opportunity to seek some benefits, or at least play a pitiful role to improve their impression. However, Lin Yitang did not take it seriously and said, "It doesn't matter. I am just fulfilling my duty."

Wen Zeli shook his head, and his long hand with distinct finger bones turned the Buddhist beads that had been worn on his left wrist for many years and were now a little worn. He secretly thought that Lin Yitong was naive. There were many dirty things in wealthy families. Many wives who came into the family would make things difficult for their step-sons. At worst, they would grow tired of each other and have no contact with each other. It was rare to see Lin Yitong like this.

After these days of covert and overt investigation, he discovered that, despite her changing temperament, even Wen Zeli, a man of suspicion, couldn't tell that Lin Yitang was a master of disguise. Her usual demeanor was completely intentional, played with gentleness because she was so relaxed. Her daily behavior was full of loopholes, but it was precisely because of this that it seemed genuine. Could there really be someone in the world who could be so quiet and reserved at times, yet so frivolous and cheerful at others? Wen Zeli suddenly longed to meet Lin Yitang.

"I'll be back soon." Wen Zeli said.

"Ah..." Lin Yitang didn't understand why he said it again this time after he had already said it last time. After pondering for a long time, she realized that the person over there was still waiting for her to speak, so she said, "Welcome home?"

Wen Zeli laughed, startling Assistant Wang beside him. He looked at him in confusion, thinking: Could it be that Mr. Wen is possessed by something? This was the first time he had seen him laugh so heartily.

Lin Yitang vaguely heard the laughter over there, and knew that his answer just now was a little wrong. He whispered embarrassedly: "Stop laughing."

Wen Zeli listened to her soft, coquettish words and smiled even more. "Madam, you said it very well, but I hope you can wait until we meet to say this."

Lin Yitang felt a tingling sensation in her ears when she was called "Madam". When Wen Zeli called her "Madam", it was not with respect like the people in the manor called her, but rather with a full sense of charm.

Lin Yitang had never been in contact with a man in her life, so she was naturally confused and said quickly: "I have something else to do, I'll hang up first."

With a beep, the phone was hung up. Wen Zeli could imagine that Lin Yitang must be blushing and at a loss at this moment. He finally couldn't bear it anymore and laughed out loud.

Wen Zeli picked up a photo on the table. It was of Lin Yitang sprawled on the sofa in the living room, admiring the scenery. Her skin, bathed in sunlight, was a radiant white, her face serene yet warm, like a meticulously crafted piece of jade. Perhaps even Lin Yitang didn't know when the photo was taken. Wen Zeli's fingers delicately caressed it, his eyes filled with a sense of interest and possessiveness he hadn't even realized yet.

Wen Hangxing saw Lin Yitang's face flush slightly, and hurriedly hung up the phone. He frowned and asked, "What's wrong? Who called you?"

Lin Yitang took a few deep breaths and managed to calm down. "Your father told me to tell you that you don't have to worry about the Li family. You can do whatever you want with Li Jiaran."

Wen Hangxing's narrow eyes widened, bulging like a hamster, "Who are you talking about? My dad?!"

Lin Yitang didn't understand why he was making such a fuss, "Yes."

"Why did he call you and not me?"

Lin Yitang thought: "Maybe he thought you were still asleep."

When she looked up, she saw Wen Hangxing looking at her with an extremely strange look. Lin Yitang asked, "What's wrong with you?"

Wen Hang remained silent. He'd figured it out. He didn't know if his stepmother liked his father, but the old man definitely had feelings for her. He knew the old man well enough. He'd barely called him in all those years. His hospitalization wasn't as important as his father's work. Given his personality, he wouldn't waste time telling him about something like that. The only twist was her presence today.

Wen Hangxing felt a flash of inspiration in his mind, and everything connected. Once he accepted this setting, the past events really didn't feel out of place at all.

Lin Yitang looked at Wen Hangxing with an increasingly strange look, worried that the child had been drugged and was about to touch his forehead.

Wen Hangxing felt the approach of an outsider and cautiously stopped Lin Yitang's movements with one hand.

"What?" Wen Hangxing said in a bad tone.

Lin Yitang looked serious: "Let me see if you have a fever."

Wen Hangxing looked into Lin Yitang's clear eyes and let go of her hand expressionlessly. The unfounded annoyance in his heart disappeared completely. He sighed and said, "Why should I bother with her? If she messes with that old lunatic, someone as simple-minded as her can only wait to be eaten up. There is no room for her to make the decision on this matter."

Thinking of this, he started to blame that old lunatic again. Not only did he not care about his own son, but he also wanted to eat young grass? Wen Hangxing looked down on him: How shameless.
