Chapter 6 The gentleman called

Lin Yitang had no idea that the most prestigious person in the Wen family was placing high hopes on her at the moment. As soon as she went downstairs, she saw the exquisite pastries on the dining table. The gloom in her heart disappeared immediately, and she walked towards the dining table humming a tune.

Mrs. Wang stood beside her with a smile on her face, as if she were looking at her own daughter. Seeing that she was eating happily, she hurriedly said, "Slow down, slow down. If Madam doesn't have enough, there's more in the kitchen. Be careful not to choke."

Lin Yitang said with a smile, "Okay, I'm not a three-year-old child. I know my limits." Then he said, "Let's make tiger taro rolls tomorrow. Mrs. Wang's will definitely be delicious."

The hostess appreciated her cooking skills, and Wang Sao was very happy. In the previous month, she had seen that the hostess didn't eat much, and she was worried that her cooking skills would not be appreciated by the hostess. But now she has no such concerns at all. Wang Sao looked at Lin Yitang, and her eyes were full of smiles. Such a wife is really good. Not only does she like her cooking skills, but she also likes to praise people. This made her feel very comfortable. It was more fulfilling than her previous job as a chef in a Michelin five-star hotel.

Upon hearing Lin Yitang's request, Wang Sao quickly said, "Make it. Madam, take your time eating. I'll go prepare the ingredients now."

After she finished speaking, she really walked towards the kitchen actively.

Lin Yitang looked at her busy figure and opened his mouth to tell her not to worry, but when he saw the uncontrollable smile on Wang Sao's face, he felt that she was also enjoying it, so he just shook his head and turned his gaze away.

Lin Yitang ate some sweets and felt a little better. Coincidentally, the rain had stopped, so she went to the garden leisurely, planning to cut a few roses to put in a vase.

At this time, the phone on the table rang. The butler picked up the phone. After hearing the voice on the other end of the phone, his expression became subtle. Lin Yitong had never seen him like this before. His originally kind face was full of seriousness and respect.

Who is it? Lin Yitang's heart flashed with curiosity, and he paid attention to the housekeeper's movements.

The housekeeper responded a few times and then looked up at her.

Lin Yitang:?

The housekeeper said, "Madam, it's Mr.'s call."

Lin Yitang had been living a very comfortable life alone these days. For a moment, she didn't realize that she had a husband. It took her a few seconds to react.

After walking over, she felt a little nervous. The system's information showed Wen Zeli as a strong and indifferent person. Now the decisive and ruthless boss was on the other end of the phone, and he specifically asked her to answer the phone. What happened? She unconsciously had a look of despair in her eyes.

Perhaps it was because she exuded too much resentment that even the housekeeper noticed her somewhat flustered expression. For the first time, his professionalism got the better of him and he couldn't help but laugh.

Lin Yitang had no time to think about anything else. He focused all his attention on the phone, afraid of exposing himself. "Hello?"

A low, pleasant voice sounded, somewhat distorted by the current, and with a hint of magnetism: "How have you been lately?"

Lin Yitang was caught off guard by his voice and was so excited that she was distracted for a moment. After she came to her senses, she said dryly, "It's okay."

Wen Zeli was probably used to her attitude, so he didn't embarrass her. "I heard Wen Hangxing came back?"

Lin Yitang thought to himself, as expected of a domineering CEO, he was on a business trip and had a clear grasp of everything at home, “Well, he just left.”

"He didn't cause you any trouble, did he?" Wen Zeli didn't really care about her answer, but politeness and tolerance made him ask casually.

But Lin Yitang was unaware of this deep-seated indifference inherent in businessmen. He assumed he was genuinely interested in understanding Wen Hangxing's situation. Although he didn't understand why he had such concerns, he still said obediently, "No." After a moment's thought, he added, "He's very well behaved."

It was the first time Wen Zeli heard someone use the word "good" to describe Wen Hangxing. His eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of surprise flashing across his eyes. "Good?" This was the first time he heard someone describe Wen Hangxing in this way, and he almost thought he had misheard.

He didn't continue the topic and said casually, "Since you get along well, that's fine. I'll be returning home soon. Is there anything you want?"

Lin Yitang was increasingly confused about why Wen Zeli called him, and his tone was filled with confusion. "I don't want anything. If I need anything, the housekeeper has already arranged it for me."

Even Wen Zeli was choked by her overly straightforward words, and smiled helplessly, "I still have work to do here, so I'll hang up first."

Lin Yitang said subconsciously: "Okay, take care of yourself."

Wen Zeli's eyes suddenly became sharp, like a sharp sword, revealing a frightening cold light. He reacted and smiled calmly, "You too."

The two were obviously still strangers, but what they said at this moment was like that of a married couple who had lived together for many years. It was as if they had put an exquisite mask on the originally false interior, revealing a weird yet inexplicable harmony.

After hanging up the phone, Wen Zeli's smile disappeared, and a cold light flashed in his eyes. He said to the secretary standing beside him: "Go and check on the wife's recent situation at home, and see if she has changed recently."

Secretary Wang nodded and pushed the door open and went out.

Wen Zeli did not start working immediately. He turned the pen a few times with his bony hands. A faint chill flashed in his eyes. He pondered and said that the reason he married Lin Yitong was largely because she was obedient. He only needed a tool that was easy to control, not a canary fed by ambition. He hoped that Lin Yitong could be smart and stay honest and upright. Otherwise... if he found any problems, you can't blame him for being rude.

The pen in his hand fell to the table with a "click," and rolled a few times. Wen Zeli did not pick it up again. He clasped his hands together and sat upright in the chair, like the white snow on the mountain, so dazzling that people dared not look directly at it, dared not blaspheme it.

Lin Yitong didn't know at this moment that Wen Zeli had noticed her difference and had arranged for people to check on her, but even though she was a casual and calm person, she still felt worried. She didn't think she could hide it from someone who had been immersed in the business world for many years. In addition, she was not sure how much Wen Zeli knew about the original owner. Once Wen Zeli returned home, she might face a more serious situation.

Lin Yitang's mood instantly dropped, and tension flowed freely in her heart like a gushing spark. She pinched her right index finger unconsciously, thinking about how to avoid being discovered after Wen Zeli came back.

The housekeeper noticed her uneasiness and approached her worriedly, "Madam, what's wrong with you?"

Thinking of the phone call just now, he secretly wondered: Could something unpleasant have happened between the gentleman and the lady?

Lin Yitang suppressed his inner emotions, exhaled slowly, and said, "It's okay."

Forget it, the bridge must be straight to the bow of the boat, we’ll talk about it when the time comes.
