Chapter 1: The Victim

The sun is scorching.

The strong light shone into the low thatched house. In the narrow and cramped room were three wooden beds that could only accommodate one person. On one of the beds lay a pale-faced female educated youth, already dead.

The person on the bed suddenly opened his eyes, his eyes blank, not knowing what day it was.

Zhong Yuxiu sat up, feeling a slight headache, as memories that did not belong to her flooded back.

She traveled through time again, but to the wrong place and time, and ended up in Kyushu in the summer of 1976. The real daughter of the Wan family was reborn, and she repeatedly schemed to make the fake daughter fall out of favor, and then she plotted to send the fake daughter to the countryside as an educated youth.

Now we are in the countryside, a place called Yujia Production Team in Lu County, Province C.

Can you do whatever you want after being reborn?

It was not the original owner's fault that the two were taken away by mistake. It was just a coincidence that they enjoyed the life that a real daughter should have. They were separated from their biological parents at birth. If the original owner wanted to hate someone, who should she hate?

There were also reborn heroines in those quick travels, and they had many encounters. I still remember that I was able to return to the city after the college entrance examination was resumed in 1977, and at that time I would inevitably have to deal with the real daughter of the Wan family.

"Dog system."

There was silence and no one responded.

"Dog System 0138, is he here?"

Zhong Yuxiu frowned slightly. Lost connection? She should have returned to her first life and started over. It was all just a mistake to be transported, but the system was gone. The moment she lowered her head, she saw a black gold ring.

It was exchanged with someone from the cultivation plane. Picking up the ring, she dripped blood to acknowledge its owner. The moment she did so, the ring transformed into a stream of light and merged into her soul. The storage ring had limited space, only two acres in total. Inside, she was filled with gold, silver, jewelry, brushes, inkstones, embroidery, paintings, a guqin, a computer, high-tech materials, and other items—all collected through past journeys through the planes. There was also a jade slip with a system message.

"Hello, host. When you see the jade slip, this system has returned to the Administration. Because your first life's body has been cremated, this system can only send you here. Your current body is a perfect match for your soul. To make up for the Administration's mistake, the storage ring serves as compensation. You and this system will never meet again. Farewell."

The irresponsible dog system was afraid of being harassed by her, so it ran away without taking responsibility.

Zhong Yuxiu felt quite lost after putting the jade slip back into the storage ring. She was an orphan in her first life and had nothing to worry about except her university diploma. When she first traveled through time, she wanted to go back because she was not used to the life in ancient times. At least she was about to graduate in modern times, and good days would come once she graduated.

Now...it's all in vain.

Forget it, just make the best of it.

After sorting out her memories and relieving her headache, Zhong Yuxiu finally had the mind to look around the room. The furnishings could only be described as shabby; there wasn't even a desk.

"Comrade Zhong, you're awake."

A thin girl with a round face and wheat-colored skin came against the light; the visitor was Sun Ruhong, who lived in Shangjing.

Zhong Yuxiu twitched the corner of her lips, "Sister Ruhong."

"I'm glad you're awake. You've been in a daze with a fever for a whole day and night. If you don't wake up, we'll have to rush you to the county hospital." Sun Ruhong was kind-hearted. With a smile in her eyes, she walked over and touched her forehead. "Thank goodness the fever is gone. Are you still dizzy?"

"Don't send it. I don't have money for medical expenses." Zhong Yuxiu sneered.

Looking her up and down for a moment, Sun Ruhong smiled. "After being sick for a while, you seem to be more lively now. You just went to the countryside, and I don't know why you gave up on yourself. However, I think people should always look forward. Don't the old people always say that things may change over time? No one knows where we will end up."

"Sister Ruhong, I won't feel sorry for myself anymore." Because of the real daughter's calculations, the Wan family gave up on the original owner, and no one loved her. She became a victim just after graduating from high school and lost her life. The original owner no longer owed the Wan family any favors.

"You seem to be in good spirits. Going out for a walk is just the right thing to do. It's a good idea to light a fire for me. We're all very tired from the busy autumn harvest, so I come back to cook for them. At least they can have a full meal when they come back."

Zhong Yuxiu wanted to know more about this era, but the memories in her mind were not enough.

When I got to the kitchen, I took a look around the whole room and sat on the stool in front of the stove to light the fire. People in this era lived a simple and hard life. There is a saying in later generations to describe this era: transportation basically relied on walking, communication basically relied on shouting, public security basically relied on dogs, and heating basically relied on shivering.

This shows how difficult life is.

"Sister Ruhong, do you want to make white flour?" In my memory, white flour is a fine grain, rare in farmers' homes, and even in the city, you may not be able to eat it every meal.

Sun Ruhong scooped three large bowls of food into a basin and added water to the large iron pot. "We all worked so hard and still have nothing to eat. We have to eat well, otherwise we won't be able to hold on."

"Then I'll take advantage of everyone today and go to the fields with everyone to harvest in the afternoon." Food is precious. She is a newcomer and she doesn't work but just eats food. If this continues, she doesn't know how she will survive the second half of the year.

"I'm just feeling better. Don't get too tired."

"Don't be tired. Just move around and sweat a bit. Then take a bath at night, and maybe everything will be fine." Seeing Sun Ruhong pouring some water into the basin and kneading the flour into a ball, Zhong Yuxiu grinned and asked, "Sister Ruhong, are you making noodle soup?"

Sun Ruhong nodded with a smile, "Well, drink more soup later to help you sweat."

"Yeah." Zhong Yuxiu didn't respond. The noodle dumpling soup was also good. It would be nice to eat a few more bites.

Sun Ruhong works efficiently, and since someone is keeping the fire going, things go quickly. The noodle soup is served, and two cold dishes are served, all made from wild vegetables that can be found everywhere on the ground.

"Okay, Comrade Zhong, you take a break. We can eat when they come back. I see there's water in the pot inside. I'll take a bath first so I can take a nap at noon."
