"Brother Yan, I've delivered the fabric. It's at the door. Come out and get it. The meters have been allocated."
The cloth was placed on the doorstep and Zhong Yuxiu went back into the house.
Yan Rushan came out and saw no one. He picked up the cloth and went into the house, giving each of them a portion. The size of the cloth made it clear how to divide it, and Yan Rushan guessed it immediately. After dividing it, he carried the remaining cloth to the door of the female educated youth.
"Comrade Zhong, please come out for a moment."
Sun Ruhong and Jiang Mei looked at each other and turned their gaze to Zhong Yuxiu at the same time. Even though they had been tempered by the previous time travel experiences, they still felt their scalps tingling when faced with the two people's direct and ambiguous gazes.
I swear to God, she and Yan Rushan really had no ambiguous relationship and they were not dating.
"I'll go out and take a look." She walked out quickly and almost bumped into Yan Rushan. She didn't bump into him, but she found a bunch of things stuffed in her arms. When she looked at them, she realized that they were the cloths she had given away. "Brother Yan, you must accept these cloths. I exchanged them with you."
Yan Rushan's eyes were cold. "I don't know how to make clothes. I only wear ready-made ones."
Zhong Yuxiu choked and watched Yan Rushan go back and close the door. What did he mean? He wanted her to do it?
"Yuxiu, Comrade Yan has left. Why are you still standing at the door? Aren't you cold?" Sun Ruhong stretched her neck and shouted outside.
"Here it comes." Zhong Yuxiu went back to her room and closed the door to block out the cold wind.
Sun Ruhong asked, "Yuxiu, what are you going to do with the old clothes you took apart the quilt?"
"I want to make some clothes." She said nothing more. Seeing that she didn't want to talk more, Sun Ruhong didn't ask any more questions. "Do you want us to help you? We have nothing to do and can help you."
Zhong Yuxiu declined politely, "Thank you, Sister Ruhong. I'm free now, so I'll just use this as a way to kill time."
"Okay, just call us when you need help."
"good."
It took three days to make six sets of thin cotton-padded jackets, with very little cotton left in the quilting. Three sets of thin coats were modified; the old clothes were cut and were very different from the previous ones.
He wandered around the mountains for two days under the pretext of looking for firewood before he found an opportunity. When Wan Xuetang came out to collect firewood, he stuffed the package into his hand.
"Two sets of cotton-padded jackets for each person, one set of thin coat for each person, and you can keep the fine grains." As soon as he finished speaking, he walked past Wanxuetang and went straight down the mountain without waiting for any communication.
Wan Xuetang was stunned for a moment, then turned around and watched Zhong Yuxiu go away. After a long moment, he sighed softly. He didn't even bother to pick up the firewood, but picked up the package and hurried back to the cowshed. "I'm back."
"Why did you come back so soon?" an old man asked.
"Lao Ding, Lao Yu, I met a kind-hearted person in the mountains." Wan Xuetang opened the package, revealing clothes and a small bag of flour. He gave each of them two cotton-padded jackets and one thin coat. "He told me to give each of you two cotton-padded jackets and one thin coat."
The two old men realized that it would be bad for others to see them holding such things, so they had to return home early. They looked through their clothes and found that the outside was patched old clothes and the inside was new cotton. They felt a mixture of emotions.
"Who is so good?" asked Mr. Yu.
Wan Xuetang hugged his cotton-padded jacket, his expression complicated and indescribable, vaguely regretting that he should not have been so heartless.
Ding Laodao: "We have to know who sent it. Don't worry, we promise not to tell anyone."
Wan Xuetang sat on the ground with a depressed look on his face. He looked at the two old people in turn for a long time and said in a low voice: "It was Zhong Zhiqing from the Zhiqing point." He couldn't say anything else. He was not completely unaware of the things his biological daughter had done, but he felt that he owed his biological daughter, and since his adopted daughter had not suffered any substantial harm, he let it go.
"Zhong Zhiqing?" Old Ding muttered to himself, then said self-deprecatingly, "We can barely protect ourselves now. There's no tomorrow. What good does it do to know who it is?"
Elder Yu remained silent, and Wan Xuetang felt a pang of guilt for his past mistreatment of Zhong Yuxiu. He was a high school teacher, and he shouldn't have been demoted, but he was exiled because his own daughter, whom he had been so devoted to protecting, was labeled a "stinking ninth" and a capitalist leftist. He was only able to get here thanks to connections from higher-ups; otherwise, he'd probably end up in the three northeastern provinces. If it was so difficult here, going there would be a real end of the road.
.......
After returning to the educated youth camp, Zhong Yuxiu stopped asking about the cowshed. During her hibernation, she either chatted with her family or slept. Yuxiu was no exception, except that she had an additional option: reading. She could understand the physics in her high school textbooks, and logical reasoning was her forte. Therefore, her focus was on the liberal arts, diligently memorizing what was required and diligently studying what was required.
The political textbooks in the 1970s tended to be worshipful, which was the most troublesome thing. However, for the sake of the future, Yuxiu had to learn them. She fought hard against the political textbooks and actually managed to master them.
When she was tired of reading, she took out the fabric that Yan Rushan had returned. The brand of the fabric was Dacron, a plaid gray fabric. This kind of fabric could also be used to make shirts, so Zhong Yuxiu designed a simple style with a short straight collar instead of a lapel.
A shirt may look simple, but making it requires meticulous attention to detail; otherwise, a small detail may ruin the garment.
Eight meters of cloth were used to make three shirts and two pairs of straight trousers; the clothes were finished before New Year's Eve and given to Yan Rushan.
"Brother Yan, since you didn't want the cloth, I made it into a dress. I don't know if it will fit you, so try it on! If it doesn't fit, please alter it for me."
Yan Rushan stared at the girl in front of him who was looking up at him and speaking, feeling uneasy. "Thank you."
"If anyone wants to thank you, it should be me. I'll go back first. If it's not appropriate, please change it for me." Zhong Yuxiu waved her hand and turned back to the house.
