Chapter 46 The Possibility of Opening a Vegetable Garden

Tian Shangguo was quick and bought the items Zhong Yuxiu needed in just half an hour.

Zhong Yuxiu started preparing lessons as soon as she got a notebook, pen and ink. She recorded the key knowledge points in the notebook and the progress of the previous period in the lesson preparation book. She listed one by one which knowledge points must be mastered and which ones could be put aside, striving to achieve the goal in one step when making progress.

The students in the class are not stupid. If she can't catch up after making so much progress, then there is nothing she can do. It is her first time as a teaching assistant, a new life, a new experience, and she really has no experience.

I was concentrating and fully committed, and before I knew it, it was noon.

"Comrade Zhong, it's time to get off work and go home for dinner." Professor Ding packed up his things and stood up, rubbing his waist. He had been sitting for a long time without moving and his waist was very sore.

Zhong Yuxiu had just finished her work for the previous semester. She closed her lesson plan book, walked around the desk and came to Professor Ding.

"Professor Ding, I've finished the progress report. Please take a look at it when you have some free time. This is my first time as a teaching assistant, so I'm not sure about these things. If there's anything wrong, please give me some pointers."

"Well, I've all been there." Professor Ding lowered his hand, his brow still furrowed. "I was also at a loss when I first became a teacher and professor, but as the days went by, things got smoother and smoother. You have a quick mind and are smart, so I think it won't take long for you to get on the right track."

Zhong Yuxiu smiled and nodded, "I hope so."

"Of course." Professor Ding took the lesson plan and put it in the drawer. "Let's go. Have a rest after dinner and come back this afternoon."

Since she didn't ask me to read it, Zhong Yuxiu didn't force me to do so. I just reviewed according to her ideas.

"OK."

Professor Ding walked out of his desk and stopped abruptly. He bent down, opened a drawer, and took out a key. "I almost forgot. This is the key to my office. Keep it safe."

"Thank you, Professor Ding." Zhong Yuxiu took it with both hands.

"Of course. We'll be working together from now on, so we're colleagues. It's only natural for colleagues to look out for each other."

This was the first time Professor Ding had stated his position directly. Zhong Yuxiu smiled and said, "I'm a newcomer and I still need your guidance and care."

"Little girl." Professor Ding nodded at her a few times. "Alright, hurry up and go. You can have dinner with your family when you get home."

The two walked out of the office. Zhong Yuxiu locked the door and walked out of the school with Professor Ding.

"Comrade Zhong, go back and have a good rest. I'll leave first. See you in the afternoon." Professor Ding planned to go in another direction. He and Zhong Yuxiu lived in a different place, so the direction was also different.

"Okay, Professor Ding, please go slowly. When you go back, apply hot water to the acupuncture points on your waist, and you'll feel better."

Professor Ding had almost turned to leave, but her words warmed his heart. He turned back and smiled, "I see."

She is very observant and knows even the smallest movements of people. Girls are really meticulous.

They went their separate ways and returned home.

As she entered the house, Zhong Yuxiu shouted, "I'm back."

"Comrade Zhong is back, so it's time for lunch." Yan Rushan poked his head out of the kitchen. "Go wash your hands and take a break. You've been tired all day. Sister Li made you a soup to nourish your brain and spirit."

Why are you at my house again?

Zhong Yuxiu opened her mouth but didn't say anything. "I understand. Wash your hands immediately."

Yan Rushan's lips curled up slightly for a moment, then retracted his smile the moment it retracted.

"Sister Li, the food is ready."

"Okay." Li Yun washed the dishes quickly and served the dishes; Yan Rushan uncovered the covered dishes one by one and helped to serve them to the table one by one.

When Zhong Yuxiu came out after washing her hands, Yan Rushan and Sister Li had already served the lunch dishes; Haonan and Tian Shangguo went to the bathroom to wash their hands together and came out, and the group gathered around the dining table to eat.

Yan Rushan brought her the bowl and chopsticks, and then picked up some stir-fried rabbit meat for her.

"Eat more of what you like; domestic rabbit meat isn't as good as wild rabbit meat. It's valuable for its ability to cure illness, strengthen the body, clear heat and cool the blood, improve intelligence, and beautify the skin."

"No need to pick up food for me, just eat yours." She moved the bowl to stop him from continuing.

With a smile in his eyes, Yan Rushan picked up another piece of food for her with his chopsticks before stopping.

After the meal, Yuxiu ate two more rabbit heads. The stir-fried rabbit heads tasted so delicious.

"Don't eat it anymore. You'll have indigestion if you eat any more." Yan Rushan took the hind leg meat from her hand and said, "I'll get you a few rabbits tomorrow and ask Sister Li to raise them for you. You can eat them whenever you want."

Zhong Yuxiu reluctantly withdrew her gaze. She was indeed full. "Where are you going to get the rabbit?"

"A friend of mine has relatives who live in a village on the outskirts of the city. Almost every household there raises rabbits. Rabbits don't eat grains, and you can just feed them some fresh grass or hay every day. They eat grass and grow meat." With those conditions, who wouldn't want to raise rabbits?

"Is that so? Then buy me a few more. My house is big, and I remember the utility room is empty. I could clean it up and use it to raise rabbits!" Zhong Yuxiu's thoughts grew more and more favorable. "Rabbits grow fast, and the big ones give birth to small ones. Then we'll have an endless supply of rabbits to eat. We can also save a lot of money on meat, and there are vegetable leaves and grass everywhere to feed the rabbits."

You don’t know until you calculate it, and once you do, you will find that it is a great deal.

There are also people who grow vegetables in the compound, and they can also set aside a piece of land for growing vegetables.

"By the way, Sister Li, let's use the flowerbed outside our house to grow vegetables. You're tired from going out to buy vegetables and coming back to cook every day. If we grow vegetables outside, won't we have to buy less?" Zhong Yuxiu's eyes brightened, her mind working quickly. "That way, we can save a lot of money every month and eat better."

Have a few more dishes at each meal, both meat and vegetables.

Li Yun's eyes flickered. "Comrade Zhong has a good idea. The flower beds outside are ours now that they've been allocated to us. We can use them to grow vegetables."

Zhong Yuxiu left the dining table contentedly and sat down on the sofa; Yan Rushan looked at her, followed closely behind her and sat down with her.

"Tell me what you want to eat. I have some connections in Shangjing." Yan Rushan said.

"Networks also require favors. It's not worth it to do it for a few small things." She was not a novice and didn't really think it was a matter of network.

Yan Rushan looked down at the man and said, "That's fine. If there's give and take, it's mutually beneficial and it actually makes the relationship closer."

Interest bundling.

Zhong Yuxiu looked up at him thoughtfully for a few seconds before she said, "Then bring back some of each type of meat and have Sister Li make it into pickled meat. We'll also need some dried vegetables. Pickles go well with rice, and you can eat some if you don't have an appetite. We had pickles all the time when we were in the countryside, but now we're not able to have them anymore."

Few households in the city make pickles. Firstly, there is a shortage of raw materials; secondly, salt is too expensive. As everyone is barely able to make ends meet, they don’t have the energy to make pickles.

It is different in the countryside. The vegetables are ready-made and can be made by saving some salt. Even if you make less, you can still have pickles to eat in winter.

So, the countryside and the city each have their own advantages. Rural people yearn to be city dwellers; many city people also envy rural people. The daily work in the countryside is tiring, but after the autumn harvest every year, they not only have stored grain, but also have private plots to grow vegetables and grains.
