Zhong Yuxiu held one and fed it, Yan Rushan held one, and Wang Daya held one; the old man looked on eagerly from the side. The little great-grandson's mouth was bulging with food, which was so cute. The white and chubby little baby looked cute no matter how you looked at it.
The three little cubs finished their three servings of complementary food one after another, and began to feel sleepy after they were full.
The old man stretched out his hand and said, "Yuxiu, give me the Book of Rites. You can take a rest."
"Okay." She handed the child to the old man. "If you get tired of holding the child, just tell me and I'll take over."
"Not tired, not tired." Even if I was tired, I didn't want to give it to my eldest grandson's wife.
Zhong Yuxiu chuckled and followed the old man's lead. Yan Rushan saw this and reached out to pinch her little hand. The couple smiled at each other, and everything was sweet without being serious.
The old man held the child in his arms, smiling widely, and coaxed the child to sleep.
"Comrade Zhong, Comrade Yan, Mr. Yan, I'm here." Gu Lingguo came over with two lunch boxes, his posture straight and upright.
"The food is in the kitchen inside, you can go and get it. I've left one portion for you and one for Comrade Fang as well," Zhong Yuxiu said.
Gu Lingguo smiled and nodded, "Got it. I'll go serve the food, you guys continue chatting." He walked towards the kitchen. The train kitchen was not spacious, and it would be difficult to move three or four people in.
"Dasha, you go and help too. It's inconvenient for Comrade Gu to carry two lunch boxes." Wang Daya reminded.
Feng Zheng's face remained expressionless as always, and he nodded and left.
Gu Lingguo looked back while carrying the food and asked in surprise, "Dasha, why are you here?"
"Let me help you." Feng Zheng said, looked at what he was holding in his hand, and took it. He then went to the stove and brought another dish. They made a total of five dishes, each with a generous portion.
"Thank you, Dasha."
The two of them carried the dishes out one after another, and it took them two trips to finish; the other portion was left untouched, and after they finished eating, they put it in two lunch boxes and took them back together, so they didn't have to wash the lunch boxes.
Gu Lingguo sat down in Feng Zheng's original seat, and Feng Zheng sat down next to him.
"Comrade Zhong, it'll take three more days to get to Province G. Now that this meal is taken care of, will the meals for the next three days be the same?"
"Let's talk to the conductor." After all, it's inconvenient to go out with children.
Gu Lingguo nodded. "Then I'll go talk to the train attendant and ask them to use their kitchen for three meals a day for the next three days. We adults can make do with it, but the children can't, as they're still growing up."
"Yes, thank you for your help."
"It's what I should do."
Gu Lingguo quickly finished his meal, still wanting more. He was full, and couldn't eat any more. Wiping his mouth, he took the dishes to the kitchen, and Feng Zheng followed behind to wash them. He couldn't use someone else's kitchen without washing them. If he did, it wouldn't just be a case of not being a good person, it would be a case of not wanting to be a good person.
After Feng Zheng finished washing, Gu Lingguo found the person in charge of the train restaurant and discussed it with him. The person in charge was easy to talk to and agreed readily. Gu Lingguo left with satisfaction, and the person in charge had a look of aftertaste on his face.
The chef they brought with them was really talented. After eating it once, you would want to eat it again. After Gu Lingguo and others left the carriage, the person in charge remembered that he seemed to have not discussed with them about cooking his portion, so it would be okay to charge them less money.
Then he thought again, the other party gave him some as a gift the first time they did it. Although it wasn't much, it was some. If he brought it up, would it leave any evidence against him? If so, it wouldn't be worth it.
The person in charge dismissed the idea, shook his head and laughed; the train attendants working in the restaurant nearby saw it, and some of them who were on good terms with him even came forward to ask.
"Old Zheng, what does the other party want from you? Will they need to use the restaurant again in the future?"
"Don't ask too many questions. They paid for using the restaurant and even gave you some delicious food. It's okay to let them use it. There is no explicit rule on the train that forbids passengers from using the restaurant." He knocked clearly.
The other person smiled and nodded. "Then I certainly won't ask too many questions. I'm just curious! Who are they? Why do they bring a cook with them when they go out? Just like the capitalists of the past, they really know how to enjoy themselves."
"What's the use of capitalists? Be careful with your words. You need to know what you should and shouldn't say." The person in charge glared at him. "Don't bring trouble upon me."
"I know, I know. I'll keep my mouth shut and won't tell anyone."
The person in charge didn't believe it. If gossip could be spread to him, it could definitely be spread to others. Such people should not talk too much. It was okay to drink and eat meat with them normally, but you never know when you will be betrayed when you really open your heart to them.
"Alright, from now on, just eat some good food and take advantage of me. Don't ask any more questions. And don't say those words again."
The other person smiled and nodded, agreeing repeatedly. He then turned around and complained about these things to the train attendant in the restaurant on the same train. Several train attendants knew about it, and soon many train attendants on the train knew about it. Before long, all the train attendants knew about this family, and they only talked about it behind their backs, not in front of them.
After four days on the train, we finally arrived in Province G. As soon as we got off the train, we couldn't wait to stretch our bodies. Our bones were all soft, and there was no place on the train for people to walk and exercise. There was no other way except to walk along the aisle.
Zhong Yuxiu was in poor spirits on the train and didn't like to move. Gu Lingtou, as a guard, couldn't move around freely either, as he had to keep an eye on Zhong Yuxiu all the time. Wang Daya and Gong Zhaodi were taking care of the children and couldn't go out to relieve their boredom. Yan Rushan stayed to accompany his wife, but Old Man Yan would go out for a walk several times every day.
Compared to others, the old man has the best spirit.
When they reached a place where the crowd was a little thinner, the old man turned around and said to Wang Daya, "Come, let me hold the child. You've been holding the child all the way."
It's just a short journey after getting off the train.
Knowing that the old man loved his great-grandson, Wang Daya did not expose him, but obediently gave the child to him; she went to help Gu Lingguo and others carry their luggage. With her strength, she did not need to carry heavy items, and could easily lift small items.
As they walked out of the train station, Gong Zhaodi looked around and asked, "Comrade Yan, Comrade Zhong, how do we get there?"
"First find a hotel to stay in, rest up and have a good meal; we can think about the rest tomorrow." It was noon now, so they had a meal and a nap; after getting enough rest, the old man and Yan Rushan had to go out and play.
Province G in the 1980s was not as prosperous and lively as Province C. The group searched for a long time before finding a slightly better hotel; the hygiene was acceptable, and the quilts, mattresses and pillows had all been washed, and there was a smell of being exposed to the sun.
The group requested four double rooms and one single room; Zhong Yuxiu and Yan Rushan shared one room, Wang Daya and Gong Zhaodi lived in one room with their children, Gu Lingguo and Fang Guozhong lived in one room, and the single room was for the old man.
After putting down our luggage, we didn't have time to organize it. We gathered in the corridor and went downstairs to find a restaurant to order food. The food that was served was not only of poor appearance, but could be described as terrible.
