Chapter 765 Buying Food in Person

The vendors who have stalls in the vegetable market have fixed procurement channels, and the goods they buy and sell are relatively stable.

Yan Rushan approached. The man in front of him was holding a cage filled with a dozen pigeons, some large and some small. Pigeon soup was nutritious, but the meat was small and had a fishy smell. He wasn't interested, and his wife wouldn't like it if he bought it back.

Then he looked at the cage next to him and saw a pheasant and two wild rabbits; these were the real good stuff, so he pointed at them and asked.

"The pheasants and hares are yours too?"

"They're not mine. I'm looking after them for someone else. Comrade, do you like pheasants and rabbits? Then give me ten yuan and take these two."

Yan Rushan frowned. Did he look like a fool? A pheasant weighs at most three pounds, and a hare weighs about five or six pounds. They're big, but skinny, so they definitely wouldn't fetch that much. This guy's a dishonest businessman. Was he deliberately doing this because he was dressed well?

She glanced at him and left without saying anything.

"Hey, hey, comrade, why are you leaving? If the price isn't right, we can talk it over. Three dollars for the pheasant and three dollars and a half for the rabbit. You see, that's the lowest price. These aren't mine; I'm selling them for someone else."

Yan Rushan came back and took out ten yuan and gave it to him, "Change."

"Okay." The stall owner gave him three dollars and fifty cents in change. After watching him walk into the market carrying the cage of pheasants and rabbits, he muttered, "You said you didn't need this little money, so why did you have to calculate it so exactly? It really is true that the richer people are, the more stingy they are."

Yan Rushan can't hear, and even if he hears, he will pretend not to hear; being rich is being rich, and being a sucker is being a sucker, the meaning is different.

Wouldn't it be better to use the money he got as a sucker to buy something else? He could buy a gift for his wife and please her. He gave the money to the seller, which only pleased the seller. Why bother?

If Zhong Yuxiu were here, she would definitely praise him for his excellent work. Matters of principle cannot be easily changed; changing once will only lead to a second one. Many young people in later generations don't know how to bargain, and they simply pay whatever the seller says, either because they can't bring themselves to do so or because they think the price is enough.

People who care too much about their reputation will suffer great losses in the long run, and will not benefit from it. They may even develop a false generosity deep in their hearts; shameless people make money and live a good life, but still think that this person is stupid.

The world has two sides, and how to balance the two sides depends on each individual.

Yan Rushan walked into the vegetable market carrying live pheasants and rabbits. Due to the poor current transportation, there were very few types of vegetables available in the market. However, even these vegetables were not available for some families to buy whenever they wanted, and they had to be frugal to live a good life.

Not seeing his wife's favorite dishes, he turned to the fruit market. The fruits in the market were of varying quality, some good and sweet, some ugly and sour. When he passed a stall selling mangoes, he stopped.

The man selling mangoes was a man in his early fifties, about 1.68 meters tall, definitely less than 1.7 meters; this height was acceptable among the crowd, but he looked short in front of Yan Rushan.

"Uncle, how much do your mangoes cost?"

"30 cents a pound." The man looked up at him, his eyes twinkling. "If you want more, I can give you 25 cents."

Yan Rushan thought for a moment and said, "Buy ten catties, twenty cents a catty."

"Twenty-three cents, no less! Shipping is expensive! Comrade, you should be able to see that these fruits are still fresh and will sell well." However, their transport team had an accident and broke up. They had no place to sell the goods they secretly transported back. They had to divide it up. No matter how much the divided goods sold for, it would belong to them. "Comrade, please don't bargain. Can I give you two more?"

"Are they sweet? Are they astringent?" These mangoes are relatively green. If they were not, they would not be able to be transported over long distances.

The stall owner nodded, "Some are sweet, and some are a little astringent when raw. I've tried them; some have lost their astringency and are fine to eat."

"Could you please cut one open for me to taste?"

"Sure, sure. Please wait a moment." The stall owner squatted down and pulled out a small package from under the stall. He rummaged through it and found a small knife; it was very small, about the size of a knife used for peeling fruit. He picked up a green mango, peeled off a slice, and handed it to him, "Comrade, try it."

Yan Rushan took it and put it in his mouth. It was a little bitter, but not too serious; the sweetness came through, and it tasted okay.

"Not bad, huh?"

"Yes, it's okay." Yan Rushan nodded.

The stall owner smiled and said, "Look, the fruit tastes good even when it's green. It will definitely taste even better when it's fully ripe, don't you think?"

"You're right. Weigh ten pounds for me."

"Okay," the stall owner beamed, pulling out a sack and starting to fill it. He sold ten kilograms straight away, leaving him with only a little over three hundred kilograms. He'd already sold over a hundred kilograms, and he'd sell the remaining hundred or so slowly. He should be able to sell them all before they were fully ripe.

These fruits are not common in the local area and are considered rare goods; otherwise, he would be really worried.

After weighing the items and confirming the weight was correct, Yan Rushan paid for them. After the two parties completed the transaction, the stall owner gave him four more items as a gift, adding the two he had promised to give away, so he had two more.

He walked out of the market carrying about ten pounds of food and headed straight for the compound. Upon entering, Yan Rushan paused for a moment, looking back but seeing nothing. It was lunchtime, and everyone was resting, so few people were coming in or out.

Yan Rushan's eyes moved slightly, and he glanced at the gate again, pretending not to know; he turned around and continued walking, and that gaze seemed to follow him like a shadow, until he reached a corner, and the gaze disappeared.

After entering the house, Yan Rushan first sent the things to the kitchen. Wang Daya and Gong Zhaodi were very surprised to see pheasants and rabbits.

"Comrade Yan, where did you buy the game? It's still very fresh."

"The vegetable market."

Wang Daya asked curiously, "Does the vegetable market also sell game in the afternoon?"

People who buy groceries frequently should know that good vegetables and meat can only be bought in the morning; by the afternoon, the vegetables and meat are not very fresh and are just what others have picked.

"Um."

Yan Rushan handed them his things, washed his hands at the sink, and left the kitchen. He went to the living room and sat next to his wife. He glanced at his grandfather, who was sitting on the floor playing with the children. They ignored him. His wife was reading, and since his grandfather had great-grandchildren, he felt superfluous sitting here.

Just, I feel wronged.

"young married woman."

"Um?"

Finally she put the book down and looked him in the eye.

Yan Rushan said, "She is more absorbed in reading than in looking at her husband."

"My husband watches it every day."

"You read books often." I never saw you get tired of reading.

Zhong Yuxiu was speechless and could only close the book. "What else? The book can change, but your face can't."

Yan Rushan: ...

"Wife, don't you think my face is prettier than the book?"

"......" Men are becoming childish. Is he going to open a kindergarten? Even this is being compared. It's too much!
