Chapter 144: Cotton Floss

After finishing the meal, Panpan was very full, but he still wanted to eat sweet sweet potato fries. Song Zhi had no choice but to give him another one.

"Is the meal ready?" Song's mother asked as she entered the house. There were two large bags of cotton on the bicycle.

"It's ready. Panpan has finished eating." As he said that, Song Zhi planned to reheat the rice.

Gu Huaijin came back soon after, bringing back a serving of braised pork ribs, which was a new dish in the cafeteria today. The color looked pretty good.

"The canteen has a new chef, and the food he cooks is delicious." Song's mother tasted a piece of food at the table. This was real cooking skills. She had also tasted the skills of the previous chef, and the main thing was to cook it well.

Panpan is the only one in the family who eats early, but now he is also sitting at the dining table gnawing on ribs. Although he can't eat meat, he sucks the ribs full of sauce until they turn white.

His hands and face were covered in grease. Song Zhi took a look and turned away to eat his meal.

Gu Huaijin had a lot of tasks these past two days and left right after dinner, even his lunch break was squeezed out. Song Zhi stood up to clean up the battlefield left after dinner. Song's mother took out the cloth used to make mattresses and quilts and washed it first. After washing, she planned to go to the next village to find a skilled cotton-fluffing master to help fluff the cotton and make it into a quilt.

Panpan wanted to sleep after eating, so Song Zhi washed his face and hands first. However, Song Zhi didn't let him sleep today. He ate twice as much as usual, and his belly was so big that it was hard to ignore it.

Song Zhi took him to walk on the cobblestones in the yard. This time he didn't take off his shoes. He treated it as a game and pulled him back and forth for several circles until he could no longer walk and walked to his mother, stretching out his hands for his mother to hold him.

Song Zhi had no choice but to hold him, and the little guy fell asleep in a short while.

After Song Zhi carefully put him on the bed, he went out to help Song's mother wash the cloth. After washing, the two of them wrung it dry together.

"Mom, just stay at home and watch Panpan take a nap. I'll go out to pick cotton. I know the location." Song Zhi pushed out his bicycle and prepared to leave. Song Zhi had been busy all morning, so he had to let her take a break.

After Song Zhi left, Song's mother had nothing to do at home, and Panpan had gone to bed, so she washed Panpan's dirty clothes. She didn't care about Song Zhi and Gu Huaijin. Their clothes were always washed by whoever had time, and most of the time, Panpan's clothes were washed by them.

She was just free today, but she was never idle, so she found Panpan's clothes and washed them carefully.

Before she finished washing, she heard Panpan calling her mother from inside the room. She quickly wiped her hands and went in. "Are you awake? Do you want to go to the bathroom?"

Panpan stretched out his hands for his grandmother to hold him. Mother Song held him and went to the yard to pee first, and then put shoes on him.

Panpan looked around but couldn't see her mother. "Mom?"

"Your mother went out for something and will be back soon." After Song's mother put on her shoes, she let him stand while she quickly finished washing the clothes.

When Song Zhi came back, it was already dark. Panpan looked for his mother several times during the journey. Song's mother had no choice but to take out some snacks to shut his mouth.

Panpan was enjoying his meal so much that he even forgot to look for his mother.

"Are you done playing?" Song's mother asked in surprise.

"I've finished playing and brought everything back." Song Zhi parked the car and replied.

"I'll just sew the outer cover on tomorrow." Song's mother originally thought that this matter would take several days, but she didn't expect it to be done in just this afternoon.

On the 28th day of the lunar year, Gu Huaijin got his holiday on time. He took the reserved train tickets and rushed back home for the New Year with his family of four. Sitting on the train, Song Zhi recalled the scene of the last New Year, when the four of them went back together. He didn't even realize that a year had passed.

Gu Huaijin went to get a few cups of hot water and handed one to Song Zhi. "Drink some water."

Song Zhi took it naturally and took two sips gently. She usually didn't like to drink water. If Gu Huaijin hadn't brought it to her, she probably wouldn't have thought of drinking a single sip. After she drank it, she fed Panpan two sips. Panpan might be thirsty, and you could hear him gulping down the water. His mouth never stopped eating, sweet or salty, as long as it was edible, he would not let go. Seeing him biting things with his front teeth, Song Zhi was anxious.

When it was time to go to bed at night, Song Zhi finally didn't have to worry as much as last time. With so many people riding in the car, they could take care of each other. She didn't have to worry at all about bringing Gu Huaijin with her. Gu Huaijin was always alert, and Song Zhi could completely relax when she was with him.

So when he got off the car, he didn't feel sleepy at all. Instead, he was full of energy. Panpan was snoring loudly. Gu Huaijin carried him out of the car, but he didn't react at all. Song Zhi couldn't help but sigh that children are more comfortable. Not only can they fall asleep anywhere, but no one needs to hold them.

When they got home, they put Panpan to bed first. Gu's parents wanted to hug their grandson, but he fell asleep. Although they felt sorry, they did not wake Panpan up. "It's okay. You can talk to him when he wakes up later."

Seeing what Gu's parents said, Song Zhi explained, "If he continues to sleep, he won't be able to sleep at night. It's okay to wake him up now."

After hearing what her daughter-in-law said, Mother Gu was a little reluctant to wake up Panpan. The little kid was sleeping soundly, so why bother disturbing his sweet dreams?

Song Zhike didn't know what her mother-in-law was thinking. When Panpan woke up, her eyes were dazed and she didn't know where she was. After a few seconds of silence, she finally called out, "Dad."

"Your father is putting the luggage upstairs and will be down soon." Panpan wanted to close his eyes and sleep.

"Panpan, be obedient and sleep at night." Seeing how sleepy he was, Song Zhi knew that he had entered a deep sleep. If he didn't wake him up now, he would definitely not be able to get up at night.

After Panpan fell asleep, he was woken up by his mother in a daze. After waking up, he didn't move, but just sat on the sofa, in a daze.

It took several minutes before he came to his senses and slid from the sofa to the floor. "Panpan is awake, but she hasn't called grandpa and grandma yet. Have you forgotten that you called them before?"

Panpan turned her head to look at the phone next to her, then looked at the two old people in front of her.

"Panpan, I'm grandma!" Mother Gu felt bad when she said this. Her dear grandson didn't recognize them again. He just came back some time ago.

"Grandma." Suddenly, a childish voice came to my ears.

"Oh, my dear grandson has such a good memory." Mother Gu hugged Panpan and held Panpan in her arms.

Father Gu sat beside and watched eagerly, his mouth twitching, wanting to say something but stopping himself. He also wanted to hug his grandson, but his grandson didn't even look at him from beginning to end, leaving him no chance to talk to his grandson.
