Chapter 9: Taking the Train

They saw that their berths had been occupied. Two of the taller girls had patches all over their clothes and very little flesh on their bodies. They looked so thin that their bones were sticking out. Their hair was cut short, as if it had not been taken care of in a long time. Their eyes were evasive, and their faces were full of panic and fear. They were curled up in the corner of the bed.

Ironically, there was a little boy sitting in front of them, about four or five years old, wearing half-new clothes, his mouth bulging with food, and holding broken egg cake in his hand, making the bed full of crumbs. The old lady on the bed not only did not blame him, but also smiled and handed another egg cake to the boy from her pocket.

"Auntie, this is my seat. Please pack up and leave quickly." Song Zhi looked at Gu Huaijin who wanted to come forward, quickly put down the things in his hands, grabbed his sleeve, walked quickly to the auntie's side, and spoke angrily.

The old lady's smiling face fell in an instant, and she sat up straight. However, after seeing Gu Huaijin behind Song Zhi, her expression changed and she became pitiful again. "Miss, I'm so sorry, I didn't buy a sleeper ticket. Can you please give me a bed? I have three children with me, and there is no room for one seat. The man looks like a soldier, right? My son is also a soldier. Let's help each other, and in the future..."

Song Zhi was too lazy to listen to her nonsense and sneered, "Okay, you can stay here if you want. Then pay for the sleeper ticket, or leave."

"Hey, you little girl are really too strong. I, an old lady, will not leave today. If you have the guts, let the young men throw us out. I want to see if you dare!"

Song Zhi was so angry at the old lady's unreasonable behavior that he laughed. It was also the first time that Gu Huaijin had encountered such an unreasonable person. His eyes were sharp and his voice was colder than ever before: "Auntie, if you don't leave, we will call the conductor. If the conductor knows that the four of you bought one ticket, do you think they will let you get off at the next stop?"

When the old lady heard Gu Huaijin's words, her expression changed from indifference to panic. She picked up the boy who was eating the egg cake and was about to leave, cursing, "You two damn girls, hurry up and get down and take the luggage. You have no sense at all."

When he walked in front of Song Zhi, he stared at Song Zhi with vicious eyes and bumped into Song Zhi's body hard. Song Zhi was picking up the luggage at his feet and was caught off guard and was about to fall.

Gu Huaijin quickly freed one hand to grab her arm, and only then did he manage to steady himself.

Gu Huaijin's eyes shot towards the old lady like a sharp sword.

The aura he exuded was so strong that it could make people feel scared. Moreover, he was used to being in a high position, and his aura was very strong. He was also used to seeing blood on the battlefield. At this moment, his eyes looked particularly terrifying in the eyes of the old lady.

If he hadn't considered that the other person was an old lady, Gu Huaijin might have thrown her two meters away just for her behavior.

The old lady knew that the grandson was tall and strong, and it would be better for her, an old lady with three children, not to annoy him. She held her grandson's hand tightly, turned around and walked away quickly.

Song Zhi didn't notice this scene. She took a deep breath and suppressed her inner anger. She really wanted to go up and slap the old woman twice, but she couldn't. The masses can only see what they think, and people only sympathize with the weak.

"You sleep on top, it's cleaner." Gu Huaijin frowned slightly when he saw the mess on the bed. Looking at Song Zhi's angry look, he couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth and said to comfort her.

"Who is that?" Song Zhi's eyes were full of anger as he complained to Gu Huaijin.

"There are many unreasonable people like this in society. Don't argue with them when you meet them in the future. They are used to throwing tantrums. Even if they are unreasonable, they will make up their minds and make you angry. When you meet such people, just be tough with them." Gu Huaijin put the package beside the bed and whispered comfort to Song Zhi while taking the things from his hand.

Song Zhi was simply too angry at the old lady's behavior. He complained a few words, but now, watching Gu Huaijin go to the bed to clean up the debris, he quickly said, "Clean up the debris on the bed. There are clean sheets in the package. I'll find some for you to put on."

As he spoke, he bent down, opened the package, and searched inside. It didn't take long before he found it. He took it out and handed it to Gu Huaijin. He continued searching, and soon found another one, picked it up, and then climbed up to the upper bunk with a nimble movement.

Gu Huaijin wanted to help her but stopped, then pretended nothing happened and continued to make his bed.

Song Zhi climbed up and immediately spread out the sheet. The train was moving slowly, and Song Zhi felt a little bored. Some people on the train were sleeping, some were eating, and some were reading. Song Zhi also wanted to find something to do. Suddenly, he remembered what was in the package: "Gu Huaijin, hand me the small gray package I just took."

"this?"

"Yes." Song Zhi took the package, opened it, and found the paper bag of sugar-roasted chestnuts inside. Holding the paper bag, he leaned his upper body over the iron railing, dangling in the air, and whispered to Gu Huaijin, who was in the lower bunk, "Do you want some?"

"No, you eat it!" Gu Huaijin had just eaten breakfast before getting on the car, and he didn't feel hungry at the moment, so he refused.

When Song Zhi heard that he didn't want to eat, he didn't say anything more and sat down to enjoy his meal.

Gu Huaijin's daily routine has always been very regular. At this moment, he was not sleeping. He just put his arms above his head and listened to Song Zhi crunching chestnuts like a hamster. Before he knew it, it was noon.

"I'm going to buy some food. What do you want to eat?" Gu Huaijin sat up from the bed, stood beside the bed and asked Song Zhi who was eating chestnuts.
