Lu An'an went upstairs, and as soon as the elevator doors opened, she saw a crowd of people watching the commotion on their phones in the hospital corridor.
Her brow twitched, and she darted through the crowd.
Before me stood a man on the verge of collapse at the door of the doctor's office, his voice hoarse with extreme grief, hysterically pleading for the doctor to return his wife to him.
Lu An'an quickly sized up the man, a subtle glint in her eyes.
[Here he is. To be honest, I'm quite surprised. Is this man acting or is he real? Judging from his breakdown, it seems pretty convincing.]
Just then, a soft whisper reached her ears.
"This man is so pitiful. His wife had late-stage brain cancer, and they spent a lot of money on her treatment. In the end, she died on the operating table today."
"I heard it was Dr. Lu Xunran, the most skilled surgeon in the hospital, who performed the operation, but he still hasn't been saved!"
"I heard there was a mistake during the surgery? Otherwise, his wife might still be alive."
"What? There was a problem with the surgery? Oh dear, who would dare to have surgery with him now? This kind of irresponsible doctor should be fired!"
A glint of darkness flashed in Lu An'an's eyes.
[Has Zhou Huai already started plotting? Is he trying to ruin my third brother's reputation with public opinion first?]
That really hit a nerve.
As before, she put on her equipment and joined the group that was discussing the most enthusiastically. She pretended to be surprised and said, "What? I heard that Dr. Zhou Huai was the lead surgeon for this operation? And, between Dr. Zhou and Dr. Lu... tsk tsk, this is really hard to say, really hard to say."
She gently shook her head, her hesitant expression piquing the curiosity of the onlookers.
An older woman standing next to Lu An'an looked anxious, gripped her hand tightly, and urged in a low voice, "Good girl! Just speak freely! We're all very tight-lipped, we promise not to let a single word slip out!"
Lu An'an pretended to hesitate for a moment before leaning closer and whispering, "This really can't be told to anyone... I heard that ever since Dr. Lu joined our hospital, Dr. Zhou's position as the head of surgery has become less secure."
"He went from being ranked first to second in surgery, and ever since then, he's been at odds with Dr. Lu at every turn. This time it's even more outrageous. Dr. Zhou, in order to enhance his own reputation, actually bribed the hospital director to steal the surgery opportunity from Dr. Lu, who was originally supposed to be the surgeon!"
The woman continued cracking sunflower seeds, muttering angrily, "What the hell! Did Dr. Zhou perform the surgery? Was it a bribe? My God, what a heartless doctor!"
Bystanders were also furious, slapping their thighs. "This is trading human lives for reputation! They're utterly despicable!"
At this moment, an older man in the crowd lowered his voice and asked curiously, "Young lady, how did you know about this?"
Lu An'an quietly tugged at her clothes. "When I visited a patient at the hospital last time, I accidentally bumped into Dr. Zhou and the hospital director secretly discussing something. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I've been feeling really anxious these past few days, afraid that they'll find out."
She hurriedly pulled her hat brim down even lower, her voice tinged with panic: "Alright, alright, I won't say any more to you. Just remember not to tell anyone. If Dr. Zhou and the others catch me red-handed, I'm finished! Who knows if Dr. Zhou and the hospital director will take drastic measures against me!"
After speaking, Lu An'an darted out of the crowd and sneaked away from the bustling area. She took a long detour, avoiding everyone's sight, and when no one was paying attention, she secretly slipped to the other side, cautiously spying on what was happening there.
The elderly men and women watching exchanged glances. Then, pointing towards the office door, the man, who was agitated and demanding an explanation from Lu Xunran, called out with a hint of sympathy, "Hey young man, you've got the wrong person! The one who operated on your wife was Dr. Zhou Huai!"
"Poor young man, he ran into a heartless doctor. He doesn't have the skills, yet he dared to operate on someone's head and killed them!"
"That's right, young man! I support you in seeking justice! That hospital director and Zhou Huai are in cahoots! Who knows how many people they've harmed behind the scenes! We can't let this cancer stay in the hospital!"
"Yes! We need an explanation from the hospital!"
The crowd's shouts not only ignited the anger in the man's heart, who was still immersed in grief, but also brought their individual anger to its extreme. They immediately wanted to find Zhou Huai and the dean to demand an explanation and seek justice.
Hearing the impassioned words around him, the man's eyes turned bloodshot. He stood up without a word, patted his chest, and walked toward Zhou Huai's office with a gloomy expression.
Lu An'an wanted to follow and join in the fun, but her arm was grabbed by Lu Wenjing, who had appeared behind her at some point.
She turned around and met Lu Wenjing's worried gaze, her expression changing from puzzled to obedient.
"Big brother, what are you doing here?"
Lu Wenjing glanced at the farce over there and said in a low voice, "The commotion here is too loud. I came to check it out. An'an, don't go over there. That man is carrying a knife."
Lu An'an was somewhat surprised: "It really is a knife? Big brother, you have pretty sharp eyes."
Lu Wenjing smiled and pulled Lu An'an back to the ward.
"Go back to the ward first. Your fourth brother has already been connected to the hospital's monitoring system. I contacted Captain Qi, and he's already on his way back to the hospital."
Upon hearing this, Lu An'an quickly asked, "What about Third Brother? Is he in the hospital room?"
Lu Wenjing nodded: "Yes."
Lu An'an breathed a sigh of relief: "That's fine then."
The two entered the ward, where Lu Yanli, Lu Xunran, and Fu Zhiyan were intently watching the monitor.
Upon hearing the sound, Fu Zhiyan's eyes lit up instantly. He moved aside to make room for Lu An'an and looked at her expectantly.
As soon as Lu An'an saw Fu Zhiyan, she remembered her master's words, and her face flushed. She awkwardly brushed her hair behind her ear, then sat down next to him, pretending to be calm.
A smile flashed in Fu Zhiyan's eyes as he quietly took Lu An'an's hand, their fingers intertwined.
Lu An pretended not to see it, his eyes were fixed on the surveillance camera.
The surveillance footage shows a group of angry, righteous onlookers following behind the man, searching the entire hospital for Zhou Huai, who is hiding.
Fu Zhiyan's gaze swept over the man who couldn't find his target, his eyes flickered, and he quickly operated on his phone screen for a few minutes before his gaze returned steadily to the surveillance camera.
The increasingly agitated man suddenly pulled out his phone, as if he had received some important information. His expression changed drastically, and he turned around and strode towards the hospital entrance.
Lu An'an noticed Fu Zhiyan's movements out of the corner of her eye, and after witnessing the man's sudden actions in the surveillance footage, she couldn't help but turn her head curiously and ask softly, "What did you do?"
