Early in the morning, Jiang Shiyue was awakened by Chen Shanhe knocking on the door.
When she came out yawning, breakfast was already on the table.
"Huh?" Jiang Shiyue wondered, "What day is it today? Why is the cafeteria breakfast so sumptuous?"
There were two eggs and a fried dough stick on the plate, and white porridge in the bowl.
Chen Shanhe prepared some water for her to wash her face and set the basin aside, then casually said, "This isn't food from the cafeteria. I made it."
Jiang Shiyue: “…”
She was surprised: "You can also make fried dough sticks?"
"I learned this from Squad Leader Zhang. It may not taste good, so just make do with it. I think the sisters-in-law prepare this for their children who are about to take exams, saying it's for good luck."
Jiang Shiyue: “…”
Does this mean a perfect score? But she needs to take six exams, so does that mean she needs to eat six fried dough sticks and twelve eggs?
If she asked, she had no doubt that with Chen Shanhe's stubbornness, he might really make her six servings of fried dough sticks and eggs, or two servings every three days.
After washing her face and sitting at the table, Jiang Shiyue noticed that there was only one meal. "Aren't you going to eat?"
"I'll wait for Yangyang to wake up and eat together. Aren't you taking the college entrance exam today? I'll take you to the exam room after we finish eating."
Jiang Shiyue felt embarrassed by Chen Shanhe's considerate care, "I can go there by bike by myself."
"It's a bit far. Save your energy for the exam."
Jiang Shiyue: “…”
Isn't it about taking exams that require your brain?
But she wasn't so EQ-low as to say it out loud.
Jiang Shiyue picked up the fried dough stick and took a bite, praising him: "This fried dough stick is so delicious! You are amazing. You made it so well on your first try."
"It's delicious, eat more." He said and turned to leave.
Jiang Shiyue waited until he left before she burst out laughing.
He blushed just because of a compliment?! She saw that his ears were red.
A rough appearance but a shy heart?
It was not until later that Jiang Shiyue realized that Chen Shanhe's blushing was not due to shyness but guilt.
In order to make up the 1 and two 0s for her breakfast, Chen Shanhe woke up squad leader Zhang at four o'clock to learn how to fry dough sticks.
The fried dough sticks that Jiang Shiyue ate were fried until golden and crispy, but the fried dough sticks that the people in the camp ate were either hard or pitch black.
They are all Chen Shanhe's failures.
When Jiang Shiyue had eaten and drunk her fill, she went out and saw Chen Shanhe already riding a bicycle, with one leg on the ground, waiting for her.
The rear seat of a bicycle is actually a hollow frame. Sitting on it for a long time will often hurt your buttocks. Now a cotton pad is tied on it.
Chen Shanhe is such a careful man, Jiang Shiyue thought.
For convenience, she wore long pants and flat sandals today. She sat astride the back seat, hesitated for a moment, reached out and grabbed a little bit of clothing on each side of Chen Shanhe's waist, "Alright."
Chen Shanhe lowered his eyes and looked at the fair hands that were grabbing his clothes. He said, "Hmm!" and rode his bicycle out.
The road from the compound to Tianmenshan Commune is all mountainous and bumpy, making it difficult to walk on.
With every bump, Jiang Shiyue couldn't help but hit Chen Shanhe's back with her face.
The point is that it wasn't just his face that hit him.
Women's bodies are often S-shaped, especially Jiang Shiyue's sitting posture, with her front protrusion rubbing against Chen Shanhe's back before her face.
When they bumped into each other accidentally for the first time, neither of them said anything.
Jiang Shiyue blushed and moved back.
However, the farther she was from Chen Shanhe, the harder she was hit during the bumpy ride.
The two of them became more and more embarrassed.
Chen Shanhe didn't say a word, but his body became more and more stiff, and his back was straight.
Jiang Shiyue couldn't figure out whether he hated her forcing herself to endure it, or whether her actions caused him to have a physiological reaction.
Either way, it's not a pleasant thing.
In the end, Jiang Shiyue simply gave up and hugged Chen Shanhe's waist. This way, at least she could keep her body stable, and there was still a small gap between the two of them.
Chen Shanhe's forehead and heart were covered in sweat, his upper body was stiff and he dared not move, only his legs were mechanically rotating to pedal.
For the first time in three years, I felt that riding a bicycle was harder than flying a fighter jet.
It's hard to bear.
In the summer, both of us have very little fabric for our clothes.
Something warm and soft rubbed against his back from time to time. If he didn't feel it, he wouldn't be a man.
In order to break the awkward atmosphere, Jiang Shiyue took the initiative to start a conversation, "Why are you up so early? I thought you drank too much last night and wanted to sleep in more today."
"I'm used to it. I wake up on time." Chen Shanhe answered calmly. He didn't sleep well and only slept about four hours a day.
Jiang Shiyue said "Oh" and didn't know what to say.
Whether it was the original owner or her, although they lived under the same roof with Chen Shanhe, they actually rarely chatted and were even more unfamiliar with each other than sharing a house.
After a while, Chen Shanhe said, "I'm sorry for causing you trouble last night."
Jiang Shiyue shook his head.
Then he remembered that Chen Shanhe couldn't see, so he hurriedly said, "You are a good drinker, no trouble."
Last night, Chen Shanhe even walked home by himself.
I just went home and fell asleep on the bed without taking off my clothes or shoes.
With the idea of "supporting the military", Jiang Shiyue took off his shoes and shirt, and wiped his face and body with a warm towel.
Thinking of what she saw last night, Jiang Shiyue's face turned hot again.
Suddenly I felt that it would be better not to chat today.
Then the two of them fell silent again.
Fortunately, I arrived at the test site.
The examination hall where Jiang Shiyue was located was the only middle school in the commune.
"I'll pick you up after you finish your exam."
**
Jiang Shiyue took the science exam, which consisted of six subjects: Chinese, math, English, physics, chemistry and politics, but the English score was not included in the total score.
For Jiang Shiyue, the college entrance examination questions in 1978 were too simple.
There are many parts of Chinese that need to be memorized and political that Jiang Shiyue is not sure about.
