Chapter 66 An Old Clam Gives Birth to a Pearl

Lord Zhang was so angry that he blew his beard and glared.

“Mother, if you want to have another child, then have another one. You don’t need to mention it to me every day. It’s common for old oysters to give birth to pearls. I heard that yesterday… my classmate’s old sow gave birth to a bunch of piglets again.”

Zhang Ruyu then looked at her mother beside her.

Mrs. Zhang was slightly taken aback, then picked up the feather duster next to her.

Master Zhang picked up the ruler beside him.

"You dare call yourself 'Laozi' in front of me? I'll be letting down my ancestors if I don't beat you to death today!"

"An old clam producing a pearl? Zhang Ruyu, you bastard, you're calling me an old clam!"

And so... Zhang Ruyu was put into mixed doubles.

Zhang Ruyu was bruised and battered again during a mixed doubles match that lasted for the duration of a cup of tea.

Master Zhang threatened to cut off all of Zhang Ruyu's money.

Mrs. Zhang wholeheartedly agreed.

Zhang Ruyu timidly raised her hand. She was already lying on the ground, and the hand she raised was trembling slightly.

"Gentlemen, I've come up with a plan! I'm sure I'll pass the imperial examination next year!" Zhang Ruyu spoke very quickly, as if afraid of not giving him a chance to speak.

Master Zhang and Madam Zhang exchanged a glance.

"explain."

Zhang Ruyu finished speaking mysteriously.

Mr. and Mrs. Zhang looked delighted, yet their expressions were also somewhat complicated.

"Others also have to take the exam, why should they help you?" Mrs. Zhang asked.

“My dear mother, have you ever heard the saying, ‘Money makes the world go round’…” Zhang Ruyu rubbed three fingers together, looking at Master Zhang beside her.

“Dear Father, we’re a little short on money lately,” Zhang Ruyu said, her face covered in colorful patterns, as she looked at Master Zhang.

After hesitating for a moment, Mr. Zhang paid the money.

Zhang Ruyu's wounds hadn't even been bandaged yet when she ran off to Fengya Academy at noon and hasn't returned.

...

Wen Nan went to pick up Lu Yanqing at night, just like any other time.

But everyone at the academy gate had left, and Lu Yanqing still hadn't come out.

Wen Nan was somewhat suspicious, as Lu Yanqing usually came out very early.

The academy was empty.

Wen Nan went inside.

Wen Nan had gone in once before to teach Zhang Ruyu a lesson, but he hadn't looked at it closely.

But this time... Wen Nan carefully examined Fengya Academy. It was luxuriously decorated, antique, and covered a vast area that stretched as far as the eye could see.

Pavilions, corridors, even ponds... the artificial mountain has it all.

The path was always covered in snow, and the path in the middle was paved with blue bricks and had been swept clean.

Wen Nan went to Lu Yanqing's classroom based on her memory.

"Lu Yanqing, do you know who I am?" A man wearing a dark blue brocade robe, with a face resembling an eagle and a long, narrow nose, asked.

The sound was sharp.

She looks like a mean person...

Lu Yanqing finished packing his things, and his fingers tightened.

"I don't know." The voice was completely flat, devoid of any inflection.

Lu Yanqing responded coldly, and the man opposite her suddenly let out a sneer.

The man blocked the doorway, followed by a group of servants.

He was dressed in fine clothes and looked at Lu Yanqing with a scrutinizing gaze, noticing the cane Lu Yanqing was holding.

"Wen Nan must loathe you terribly," the man said with a mocking smile, his gaze fixed on Lu Yanqing.

Lu Yanqing's originally indifferent expression softened slightly when he heard the man opposite him mention Wen Nan.

"Who are you?" Lu Yanqing raised his eyes, the beauty mark next to his eye making him look exceptionally handsome.
