Chapter 17

Lin You: ...

Looking at the smiling face of the person in front of him, Lin You clenched his fist and then relaxed it.

"Brother Qiong, please lend me this money for the sake of our brotherhood. I will definitely pay you back with interest in the future. Besides, we are family, and I would never cheat you."

Lin Qiong sighed.

Why can't you understand what I'm saying, child?

Lin You was somewhat surprised. Could it be that Fu Xingyun was lying downstairs just now?

"Are you really broke?"

Lin Qiong glanced at the pigeon egg in her hand. "I really don't want to lend it to you."

Lin You: ...

Although Fu Xingyun gave him a gold card, he never looked at the amount in it. He knew there was a lot of money in the card, perhaps more than he had ever seen in his entire life.

But every time he spends money, it's for household expenses, which is supposedly joint property of the couple, so he has no right to lend it out.

Lin You gritted his teeth, but remembering Chen Han's words that he couldn't offend people, he suppressed his anger and turned to leave.

Seeing the person come down, Chen Han hurried forward to ask, "How did it go? What did Lin Qiong say?"

Lin You's face turned ugly. "What else can I say? I won't lend it to you!"

Chen Han frowned instantly. "Did you offend him?"

Lin You recalled his humble tone just now, and his face turned green. "I provoked him? I've already apologized to him, but he still won't budge."

Chen Han's brows were furrowed tightly.

Lin Huafeng and Fu Xingyun finished exchanging pleasantries before he pulled the person over.

"Lin Qiong won't budge!"

Lin Huafeng was somewhat surprised to hear this. "What do you mean he won't budge? He won't contribute money to the family company?"

Chen Han said in a low voice, "I just asked Xiao You to go up and test the waters, saying he wanted to borrow money, but that scoundrel Lin Qiong wouldn't lend a single penny."

Lin Huafeng: "Really?!"

Chen Han nodded. "What should we do? If Lin Qiong doesn't budge, we won't get the funding at all."

Lin Huafeng anxiously raised his hand and touched his shiny bald patch. "I'll think of something else. I'll find some time to talk to that kid later."

When Lin Qiong came downstairs, she saw Fu Xingyun sitting alone in the living room with a fruit platter and some drinks in front of him.

Why are you all alone?

Fu Xingyun looked up at the person and said, "I'm going to prepare lunch."

Lin Qiong said "oh" and then picked up a can of cola and gulped down a few mouthfuls.

"Reach out your hand."

Fu Xingyun glanced at the person and asked, "What is it?"

Lin Qiong blinked and said, "Just reach out your hand first."

Fu Xingyun hesitated for a moment, then reached out one hand.

Lin Qiong took the empty ring from the soda can and pushed it onto one of the little fingers.

"Hahaha, isn't it pretty?"

Fu Xingyun didn't wear a ring; his ten fingers were bare, unlike him who always wore a huge diamond ring except when he went out to work—a heavy yet sweet symbol.

The young man smiled brightly, as if tricking him was something to be very happy about; his eyes crinkled with laughter.

Fu Xingyun glanced at Lin Qiong's smiling face, then at the can ring on her little finger, and coldly uttered two words, "Childish."

Lin Qiong corrected, "That's romance."

What do you know, you old geezer?

After lunch, Lin Huafeng found Lin Qiong.

"Xiaoqiong, come here for a moment, Dad has something to tell you."

Lin Qiong walked over, but judging from the person's face, he knew that the other person was not looking for him with any good intentions.

"What's up?"

Fu Xingyun watched the departing figure, his eyes unfathomable.

Lin Huafeng led his men to the study.

As soon as he entered the door, he said earnestly, "Xiao Qiong, in the blink of an eye you've grown up so much. It feels like just yesterday you were a little kid, but now you're married and the head of your own family. You can make your own decisions, and I'm very proud of you."

Lin Huafeng rubbed his hands together. "You know the family business hasn't been doing well these past few years, but I've raised you all to adulthood, so I want to talk to you about something today..."

Before Lin Huafeng could finish speaking, Lin Qiong interrupted him, "So, do you want to talk to me about money or feelings today?"

Lin Huafeng had realized that Lin Qiong might have seen through his intentions, and said in summary, "Both."

Lin Qiong hesitated, "That's not quite feasible."

Lin Huafeng: ?

Lin Qiong: "After all, talking about money can hurt feelings."

"..."

Lin Huafeng steeled himself and said, "Then let's talk about money."

Then she got straight to the point: "Your Aunt Chen should have told you before you got married that after the wedding you should try to get Fu Xingyun to invest in the family. Look, so much time has passed, the money should be... of course it's a loan, and we'll pay you back once the business picks up."

Lin Qiong answered decisively, "I will not give this money."

Lin Huafeng frowned. "Why? The company has been struggling for more than a year or two. When you got married, you promised to help. But now? We've supported you for so many years, and now you're not even willing to contribute money."

“No, it’s not that I’m unwilling, it’s that I can’t.” Lin Qiong said in a deep, irritating tone, “I used to think that being rich was a blessing, but I only realized after I got married that being rich is a sin.”

Lin Qiong looked at him sincerely, “Money is the root of all evil. As long as you have money, a bunch of hypocritical people will appear around you. They are not after you as a person, but after your money. Some people will even use sweet words to deceive you and make you lose your way.”

Lin Huafeng stared blankly at the person babbling on.

Lin Qiong puffed out her small chest. "Money is sinful and painful, so let me bear it all alone."

Lin Huafeng said numbly, "Speak like a human being."

Lin Qiong softly uttered two words, "No."

"..."

Lin Huafeng took a deep breath in anger, "Xiaoqiong, it's not like I'm not going to pay you back. I love you the most in the family. Back then, there was such a good opportunity to marry into the Fu family. Look who I gave it to? Did I give it to your younger siblings? I still think of you the most and gave you the opportunity to jump into the upper class and live a life of luxury."

Lin Qiong isn't stupid. The marriage was just the Lin family selling their son, but now they're making it sound so noble.

"How many parent-teacher meetings have I attended for you, and how many for your younger siblings? I've never let you lack food or clothing. I love you the most. It wasn't easy raising you. It's time for you to repay me. I don't need much, just this once. Now that the family is facing difficulties, you should lend a hand."

Lin Qiong: "Moral blackmail?"

Lin Huafeng's lips twitched almost imperceptibly.

"Dad, I hope you'll be the one to help me in my time of need."

Lin Qiong: Do I look like it?

Lin Huafeng: ...

You can't hold me hostage as long as I lack morality.

Lin Huafeng was instantly filled with anger and couldn't help but say, "Why is it so hard to ask you to contribute a little money!"

Lin Qiong remained calm, saying, "I have no money."

"Impossible! Fu Xingyun said you're in charge of everything at home!"

Lin Qiong was somewhat surprised, "He really told you that?"

Lin Huafeng nodded with a dark expression.

Lin Qiong: The True Head of the Household.jpg

Suddenly, I felt my shoulders had broadened considerably, and I smiled contentedly.

Seeing that the person seemed happy, Lin Huafeng quickly said, "Xiao Qiong, what do you think?"

Lin Qiong chuckled twice, "No."

Bang—

Lin Qiong and Fu Xingyun exchanged a glance outside the Lin family's gate.

Clearly, the two were kicked out; Lin Huafeng, realizing he wouldn't get anything out of them, simply shoved them out the door.

Lin Qiong didn't mind and pushed Fu Xingyun outside. She glanced at the weather and it looked like it was about to rain. "Let's go. It's been cloudy for a while and it's going to rain."

Fu Xingyun said seriously, "The weather forecast said there wasn't any."

Lin Qiong smiled and said, "But God says it will happen."

Fu Xingyun: ...

Lin Qiong pushed the person along, and the driver parked the car not far away.

Fu Xingyun looked at the road in front of him and asked, "What did you talk about with them?"

Lin Qiong thought for a moment, "We didn't talk about much, he just asked me to lend him money."

Fu Xingyun glanced at him. "You borrowed it?"

Lin Qiong stared at the top of the other person's head as if they were an idiot. "If I borrowed it, would we still be kicked out?"

Upon hearing this, Fu Xingyun's lips curled into a barely perceptible smile. "That's true."

When the two were still three meters away from the car, the driver hurriedly got out.

With a troubled expression and his brows furrowed, he hurried forward when he saw Fu Xingyun return, saying, "Boss."

Fu Xingyun: "What is it?"

The driver clenched his fists tightly. "Boss, I just got news that my wife is about to give birth in the hospital. The due date was the day after tomorrow, but it's come early. I... I'd like to ask..."

Lin Qiong looked at the person and said, "Go."

The driver was taken aback.

Lin Qiong: "Go ahead, your wife is giving birth, you should hurry over."

The driver glanced at Fu Xingyun, who didn't say he disagreed.

Lin Qiong waved her hand again to let the driver leave, and only then did the driver turn and go.

Watching the driver's departing figure, Lin Qiong couldn't help but utter two words, "That's great."

Having a family means having a sense of belonging.

Lin Qiong then looked at the car and then at Fu Xingyun.

For a moment, I didn't know how to get back.

Fu Xingyun looked at him and asked, "Do you have a driver's license?"

Lin Qiong rummaged through his pockets and found his driver's license while looking for his ID. In fact, he had also taken a driving test in his previous life, but he had driven very few times.

"have."

"You drive."

Lin Qiong hesitated for a moment, "It's possible, but it might be a bit slow."

The man didn't pay any attention to it.

Lin Qiong was worried that she might encounter some difficulties operating the vehicle on the road, so she placed Fu Xingyun in the passenger seat to provide guidance at any time.

He started the car and drove off with a nervous heart.

Five minutes later, Fu Xingyun silently grabbed the handlebars.

Lin Qiong was also nervous.

"Lin Qiong".

He glanced quickly at the man. "What's wrong?"

Fu Xingyun: "Do you see the car ahead?"

Lin Qiong nodded. "I saw it."

The man's cold voice came from beside him, "Step on the gas, ram them!"

Lin Qiong felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her head, her scalp tingling as she said, "Isn't this a bit inappropriate?"

Fu Xingyun's voice was much louder than before, "Then why aren't you braking?"

Lin Qiong: ...

It took almost an hour and a half to get home, a journey that should have taken half an hour.

As expected, it started to rain.

It's very big.

It was as big as the day Yiping asked her father for money.
