Chapter 12 Recalling the Fear of Being Dominated by the Third Male Lead

“Sun Yu…” Mu Jianjian let out a weak cry for help. She stiffly turned her head to seek help, but saw the boy leaning against the corner without moving. No spiders were near him, but his breath was faint.

Mu Jianjian: ...

She must still be in a hallucination, but she couldn't care less about that now.

He took out a jade sword he had bought on the black market from his spatial bag, raised it and slashed at the spider silk wrapped around his feet, only to find that he could only cut the outer layer of silk with half his strength.

Mu Jianjian struggled to cut the silk and stand up, but the spider swarm became restless as she did so, rushing towards the two of them one after another!

The spider's exoskeleton was surprisingly hard, and the "sizzling" sound of it colliding with the jade sword echoed in the cave. Mu Jianjian could handle a few, but there were too many. As soon as one fell, another pounced. Helpless, she retreated to Sun Yu's corner and stood beside him.

"System, you once said that the roots of pine and cypress can strengthen the primordial spirit. Can they help others break free from the control of inner demons?" Mu Jianjian had a flash of inspiration.

[Consolidating the primordial spirit is mainly used during advancement; other data is not displayed.] The system sighed helplessly.

Now, she had no choice but to try anything. After a long time of swinging her sword and gathering her strength, Mu Jianjian gradually became exhausted. Before she knew it, a spider flew past her and flashed toward Sun Yu behind her!

"Sun Yu!" There was no time to swing her sword, so Mu Jianjian gritted her teeth and used her hand to block it.

But before her hand could even touch the spider, a black and red figure emerged like a ghost, bit the spider, and swallowed it whole!

The slender body grew larger the instant it touched the spider, and the rock wall above surrounded Sun Yu and the stunned Mu Jianjian.

Its reddish-black body was covered in scales, and its eyes were covered with transparent protective skin. Its pupils were vertical ovals, and its thin tongue hissed. Its emotionless eyes swept over the circle of spiders around it, and it actually made them freeze in place!

That's the instinct of living beings to seek advantage and avoid harm.

A giant red and black snake that grows larger.

Nine words flashed through her mind. Mu Jianjian, clutching the jade sword, trembled in the circle where the snake was coiled, and couldn't help but recall the passage from the original book.

Linghu Zhuoyu sat high on the cliff, casually playing with the slender snake in his right hand. He tilted his head and looked at the woman crying in the snake pit. The corner of his mouth curved into a perfect crescent moon. His expression seemed puzzled. "Why are you bullying Yueyue?"

"I didn't... I really didn't bully her..." The cold and sticky sensation kept stimulating Mu Jianjian. She kept trying to avoid the snake's coils, but she sank deeper and deeper.

Linghu Zhuoyu raised his hand, and in an instant, the black and red snake grew enormous, lunging at Mu Jianjian and causing her to faint. He, however, burst into laughter as if he had successfully pulled off a prank.

At this moment, Mu Jianjian recalled the fear of being dominated by the third male lead.

The third male character, Linghu Zhuoyu, is accompanied by a snake and a scorpion. Later, he becomes a highly respected doctor who commands a large following, and a fearsome poison master. He enjoys manipulating people's hearts, giving them hope only to kick them when they are down. He also has a particularly perverse hobby of throwing people into snake pits to hear their screams!

The sweet, youthful voice of Sun Yu came to mind, and Mu Jianjian shook these thoughts out of her head.

Seeing the surrounding spiders gradually disperse, she quickly took out the pine and cypress root she had just pulled out from her space. Just as she was about to lift his veil, the giant snake instantly shrank and coiled around Mu Jianjian's hand.

"Hiss hiss hiss~" The slender snake stared at her, swaying its tail, the deep yellow bead at the tip of its tail gleaming.

"Hello..." Mu Jianjian lost control of her expression. "I don't understand snake language, but the most important thing is to wake him up from the illusion, okay?"

He spoke a string of lines without taking a breath, as if reciting lines from a script.

The slender snake coiled around her palm, sniffed the pine root that Mu Jianjian was holding, and then retreated back to her wrist, seemingly no longer obstructing her.

Mu Jianjian breathed a sigh of relief, but was stunned when she lifted Sun Yu's veil.

The boy had his long, dark gray hair held up by a jade hairpin. His long eyelashes trembled above his tightly closed eyes. His lips were red and his teeth were white, making him look as beautiful as a painting. Only when you get closer do you realize that he is surrounded by the fragrance of Chinese medicine.

A thin layer of sweat was seeping from his forehead, as if he were trapped in a nightmare and looked quite pitiful.

"Sun Yu." Mu Jianjian called softly, and when she touched his body, she found that he was still trembling and muttering some unintelligible words. She was anxious, "Sun Yu, don't be afraid, okay? If you eat this, you will be fine."

These words were not so much meant for Sun Yu, but rather for Mu Jianjian to comfort herself.

After putting Sun Yuping down, she gently lifted his head, broke the pine root into small pieces, and put them into her mouth. Seeing that he was eating, she finally felt a little relieved.

Now there was nothing else to do but wait. Mu Jianjian used the inside of her sleeve to wipe Sun Yu's sweat while keeping a close watch on him, not daring to let her guard down.

Only when Sun Yu stopped sweating did she finally feel relieved.

The system in my brain is asking for praise.

It's a pity it doesn't have a physical form, otherwise Mu Jianjian would have loved it so much she would have kissed it.

After guarding it for two days, Mu Jianjian finally couldn't hold on any longer and fell asleep with her head against the wall. Before falling asleep, she earnestly told the little snake the story of "The Farmer and the Snake." Seeing its little head nod helplessly, she closed her eyes in peace.

When Sun Yu opened her eyes, this was the scene she saw.

The girl, dressed in dirty and disheveled clothes, leaned against a corner, looking completely unwell. A thin, black and red snake coiled around her hair, the two seemingly merging into one.

Sun Yu lowered his eyes, and the words "Don't be afraid, it's alright" that pierced through the darkness reached him echoed in his ears, causing a strange flutter in his heart.

Even though the previous illusion had torn his heart to shreds, the ordinary scene before him brought him a long-lost sense of warmth.

"Mmm," Mu Jianjian stretched comfortably after sleeping, and when she opened her eyes, she met the eyes of the boy in front of her. She exclaimed in surprise, "Sun Yu, you're awake!"

How could she wake up so quickly? He wasn't even wearing his veil...

Sun Yu instinctively covered her eyes to avoid it. Did she see her own eyes? Would she think they were extremely ugly? Would she think...like a monster?

"Wow, you have heterochromia!" Mu Jianjian leaned closer to Sun Yu and saw that the boy's eyes were one gray and one black, sparkling like glass, making him look even more refined and radiant. "This is so beautiful! Is it natural? It's so unique."

Mu Jianjian was excited. First, the boy really looked like an elf in a painting. Second, the original novel's third male lead, Linghu Zhuoyu, did not have this feature of having black eyes!

"Don't you think it's strange?" The girl's attitude made Sun Yu's tone change, and a low and withdrawn aura lingered around him. "From the moment I was born, everyone has been saying that I am a 'monster,' that heterochromia is an ominous sign and that I don't deserve to live in this world."

Hua Hua opened its eyes as soon as Sun Yu got up. It was about to pounce on her with joy, but was glared at by its owner!

Then I saw the owner talking and pretending to be pitiful.

"Hiss~" Playing the victim to gain sympathy, shameless!

Hua Hua was strutting around on Mu Jianjian's head when Sun Yu gave it a glare, and it instinctively shrank back in fear.

What a despicable master who forgets his principles for the sake of lust!

"That's disgusting and outrageous?" Mu Jianjian was incredulous, but then a strong sense of justice ignited within her. "You're not a monster! You have a good personality, high cultivation, and are handsome. Don't listen to their nonsense. They're just jealous of your excellence!"

"Sister Yuanyuan, really?" Thick tears welled up in her gray and black eyes, as if she would burst into tears if she heard a negative answer.

"Really!" Mu Jianjian was so captivated by Sun Yu's pitiful, angelic appearance that she subconsciously ignored how he addressed her.
