School gate
7 o'clock
The students arrived at their destination on time and boarded the bus as instructed by their teachers.
Xu Xinxin carefully made her way through the crowd and sat down next to Xunting. She looked at Xunting's small backpack and then at her own big backpack, and couldn't help but frown.
"Xunting, you didn't bring much food. Aren't you sure you won't have enough to eat?"
"That's enough," Xun Ting replied calmly. The school would provide lunch, so she only needed to bring water. In places like the mountains, the more you carried, the heavier it would be.
She would rather eat less than lift heavy objects.
"If you don't have enough, you can have mine too. I brought a lot of snacks and some trinkets for taking pictures."
Xu Xinxin immediately spoke up enthusiastically, as she habitually brought so many things with her.
"Okay, sure." Xun Ting responded lazily, closing her eyes to rest again. She felt that her eyelids were about to burst open, and she was just so sleepy.
Last night... she didn't know what she was doing, she inexplicably couldn't sleep.
Upon arrival at their destination, everyone disembarked.
The teacher watched them climb the mountain together from behind and encouraged them, "Everyone must keep going and see the beautiful scenery at the top of the mountain."
Some people, upon seeing the height, instantly feel hopeless: "It's so high, I can't possibly climb up there!"
After climbing for a while, people gradually stopped to rest and gave up.
Xu Xinxin was covered in sweat and looking a bit tired. She glanced at Xunting ahead, frowned, and followed him, panting, "Xunting, aren't you tired?"
"Not too tired." Xun Ting glanced at Xu Xinxin, who was covered in sweat beside her, and fell into deep thought.
She climbed the mountain with ease, without feeling much discomfort.
"Keep pretending...keep pretending." Gu Tian quickly caught up, speaking disdainfully, sweat pouring down her forehead, her words barely coherent, too tired to do anything but lie down.
“Sweetie… let’s… go, don’t wait for… them.” Shen Huan gasped for breath.
"good."
The two continued climbing, panting heavily.
Xun Ting's lips twitched. He was panting so much, yet he could still talk so smugly.
...
In the end, only a few people reached the top of the mountain. Xu Xinxin was half-dragged up by Xun Ting, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to climb up. She looked at Xun Ting with some gratitude.
"Xunting, thank you! It must have taken a lot of effort to pull me up here, right?"
"It took quite a bit of effort." Xun Ting glanced at the red marks on his palm and couldn't help but chuckle.
Xu Xinxin herself is petite and not heavy, but the large backpack she was carrying was surprisingly heavy.
Xu Xinxin took her lunchbox out of her schoolbag. "Do you want to eat?"
Upon closer inspection, I found two lunch boxes, a bunch of cookies, drinks, and various other odds and ends inside the backpack, all of which looked quite heavy.
Xu Xinxin brought all this up the mountain, is she serious?
"..."
"If you don't want to eat, you can have snacks. There are many kinds." When Xu Xinxin saw that she didn't answer, she immediately emptied all the other things out of her schoolbag.
"I'm not hungry yet, you eat."
The two people standing nearby, who hadn't brought anything with them, couldn't help but speak up: "Xu Xinxin, give us some."
Xu Xinxin glanced at them. They used to be good friends. Would it be too heartless not to give them anything now? But Xunting didn't get along with them. If she gave them something, would Xunting be unhappy?
Thinking of this, Xu Xinxin suddenly felt troubled. She turned her head to look at Xunting, as if seeking his opinion.
