The blazing sun was swept away by dark clouds, leaving the sky a heavy, oppressive black...
"Miss you!"
"Miss you!"
"I think of you when I eat, I think of you when I walk, and even when I sleep, I still think of you."
"I think I must be crazy. My reason tells me to keep my distance from you, that there is no future between us, but I just can't help it."
"Boom!"
"Waaaaah!!!"
With a loud rumble of thunder, Ling Shuang burst into tears, whether from sadness or fright.
The raindrops started to fall heavily, relentlessly pounding on the floor.
Ling Shuang was dressed in thin clothes, and her clothes were soaked in no time.
The guard was startled by her crying: "Girl, don't cry, let's talk it out."
"This rain is really heavy, don't let yourself catch a cold."
No matter how they tried to persuade her, Ling Shuang cried even harder.
The two brothers looked at each other and said, "Brother, you stay here and keep watch. I'm afraid she might do something stupid. I'll go in and let her know."
"OK!"
As soon as he opened the door, he saw someone leaning against the wall.
Seeing his sorrowful expression, even a block of wood would know what had happened.
"Does the guard know that woman?"
"Yes, she is Princess!"
"Princess...Princess..." The guard was so frightened that he stammered.
"Why would the princess be looking for you? Guard Ling, what have you done wrong? Should I report this to the prince?"
"Yes, I stole something!"
This was undoubtedly explosive news, and the guard's mouth formed an "O" shape in shock.
The rain was getting heavier and heavier, showing no signs of stopping.
Ling Shuang's face was wet with either tears or rain. She had cried herself to exhaustion and had just stood up when she felt her vision go black and her legs gave way, causing her to fall backward.
Just when she thought she was about to have a close encounter with the earth, she fell into a warm embrace.
The bright red oil-paper umbrella overhead kept all the wind and rain out.
Ling Ran was no longer cold and aloof; a smile finally appeared on her lips: "You're such a grown-up, it's really shameful to still be crying!"
Ling Shuang felt a lump in her throat, and tears welled up in her eyes uncontrollably: "Go away! Why are you still bothering me?"
She told him to leave, but her hands were tightly gripping his clothes, as if afraid he might run away at any moment.
"Pfft!!" Ling Ran found her incredibly cute and burst out laughing.
“If I leave, the princess will never see me again.”
She turned her head to one side, her eyes red from crying, looking as adorable as a little rabbit.
"I……"
"I will never bother you again."
"I'm so annoying, you should be happy that I'm gone!"
As she spoke, she chuckled, but there was always a hint of desolation and sorrow hidden in that laugh.
"Yes!" Ling Ran said, though he didn't mean it.
“Every day I think about how to avoid the princess, so that I can’t get too close, but I can’t go against your wishes.”
"It's really tough to spend every day in fear!"
Hearing his words, Ling Shuang's heart felt like it was being pierced by needles.
"I'm...I'm sorry..."
"I thought you were about to fall in love with me."
"Your Highness is too kind. My heart already belongs to someone else."
Ling Shuang suddenly looked up and carefully examined his face, as if she wanted to etch his appearance into her mind.
"Princess, I must go now, this umbrella..."
"No need. I, the princess, will not take what does not belong to me."
After saying that, he pushed open the umbrella, turned around, and left as if fleeing.
Watching her figure grow smaller and smaller until it finally became a black dot and disappeared.
Lingran slowly lowered the umbrella, letting the rain soak her.
Her face was wet with either rain or tears, and her eyes remained fixed on the spot where Ling Shuang had left for a long, long time, unable to snap out of her daze.
...
The night after the rain was especially cold and desolate, and the red candle flame on the candlestick flickered in the wind.
"Has the princess not eaten yet?" Nangong Liuli's voice rang out.
"No."
"You may all leave!"
"yes."
After they left, Nangong Liuli sat down next to her and, in the candlelight, could see that there were still wet tear stains on her fair face.
"Wipe it off!"
Looking at her handkerchief, Ling Shuang remained unmoved.
"If you keep going like this, your body won't be able to take it!"
"If I can't even decide my own marriage, am I not even allowed to decide my own body?"
Nangong Liuli smiled and teased, "Judging from your loud voice, it seems there's nothing seriously wrong."
"you!!!!"
"Get out," she told him.
"I'm not leaving."
Are you leaving or not?
"I'm not leaving!"
"If you're not leaving, then this princess will be." With that, she got up and tried to leave.
She had only taken one step when a warm, large hand pulled her back.
"Nangong Liuli, have you gone mad..."
Before she could finish speaking, his hand covered her mouth.
Shh, don't talk, listen to me!
Ling Shuang's tears, still wet from the frost, clung to her long eyelashes, and her clear eyes were as clean as spring water.
Upon close contact, Nangong Liuli could even see the fine hairs on her face.
My heart is pounding, as if a voice is telling me I like you.
Perhaps I was deeply attracted to her from the very first moment I saw her.
"I like you!"
Ling Shuang's mouth was still covered by his hand. Her small face, no bigger than a palm, had been mutilated except for her eyes and forehead.
