Chapter 51

I hid in the shadows and watched him leave before daring to come out.

When I saw him, I was overjoyed. I wanted to hug him and tell him everything. This must be how I feel when I like someone!

Seeing me staring blankly at his retreating figure, Xiangye said with feigned satisfaction, "Finally, I've gotten my revenge! Serves her right for harming Miss!"

Yu Shaoqing felt particularly uncomfortable looking at me.

But he feigned nonchalance and said, "Should we chase after them?"

I shook my head: "No!"

"Why?"

I smiled at him and said, "I'm just a substitute!" That smile was incredibly desolate, and it pierced Yu Shaoqing's heart.

He reached out to hug me, but I instinctively took a few steps back.

Looking at the awkwardly suspended hand in mid-air, Yu Shaoqing smiled at me with a hurt expression.

After I left, Yu Shaoqing stared at my retreating figure with a hint of disappointment.

Xiangye moved a few steps closer to him: "Young Master Yu, are you alright?"

He shook his head: "Am I a failure?"

"No, in Xiangye's heart, Young Master has always been amazing. He saved my young lady!" Her eyes were full of admiration as she spoke.

"Then why does she only like the Prince of Anyang?" He said this with some disappointment before leaving.

Xiangye looked at his retreating figure with a hint of hurt, and muttered to herself, "In Xiangye's heart, Young Master Yu is the best!"

Today was a rare sunny day, and a woman's charming laughter rang out from inside Yuhuan Palace: "Empress Mo, please stop teasing me!"

The woman was pretty and charming, with thick eyebrows and big eyes. She was dressed smartly, and a soft whip was tied at her waist.

This made Consort Mo laugh heartily, and she exclaimed, "It's been so long since I've seen Juan'er! She's grown into such a graceful young lady!"

Bai Juanjuan secretly glanced at Ye Lisheng, whose face was indifferent.

She said, "It's been so many years, Brother Ye is completely different from before!"

Ye Lisheng took a sip of tea, never once glancing at her directly.

He said coldly, "Does it matter what it was like before or what it is like now?"

The atmosphere froze instantly upon hearing this, and Bai Juanjuan stood there awkwardly.

Fortunately, Consort Mo broke the awkward silence by saying, "I heard that Juan'er is coming, so I specially picked out a few pieces of jewelry. I wonder if you like them?"

She happily accepted the jewelry, saying, "Thank you, Lady Mo!"

Ye Lisheng scoffed, gave a cold snort, and turned to leave.

Consort Mo, standing behind her, spoke up promptly, "Juan'er has reached marriageable age, and I truly like her."

The implication was that Ye Lisheng should marry Bai Juanjuan as his concubine.

He didn't say a word, turned around and left.

Halfway there, Bai Juanjuan called out from behind as she ran, "Ye Lisheng, stop!"

Ye Lisheng stopped, wanting to hear what she had to say.

It was only then that I saw her clearly; her pouting, angry expression vaguely resembled okra, and for a moment I was lost in thought.

She threw the jewelry bestowed upon her by Consort Mo at Ye Lisheng, saying, "Do you think I care about you?!"

Ye Lisheng snorted coldly: "Then what do you mean?"

"You want to be my queen?"

His contemptuous tone completely enraged Bai Juanjuan.

He drew the soft whip from his waist and lashed out at Ye Lisheng.

He didn't move an inch, catching it with his hand; the soft whip was like a snake whose head had been grabbed, unable to move.

Bai Juanjuan tried her best to pull the whip back, but she was too weak.

She yelled at him angrily, "Ye Lisheng, let go!"

Ye Lisheng did indeed let go as she said, but because she lost her balance, she fell to the ground with a thud.

What are you doing?

"Didn't you tell me to let go?"

She was both angry and anxious, and stood up to attack Ye Li again.

The two fought fiercely for a time, with Bai Juanjuan, in a fit of rage, showing no intention of dodging or backing down.

Although Ye Lisheng didn't have the aloofness of a prince, he wasn't entirely unreasonable either, and he dodged every move.

Seeing this from afar, Linglong hurriedly reported to Consort Mo: "Your Highness, the Prince and Miss Bai are fighting!"

Consort Mo laughed instead: "Let them be!"

Taking advantage of Ye Lisheng's absence from the Prince's residence, Liu Ye went to Wangyue Pavilion as a guest.

The shock of that day hadn't subsided; Lingxin's hands were still trembling as she poured tea.

Liu Ye observed all of this, took a sip of tea, and smiled, "Sister Murong's tea is really delicious!"

Upon hearing the name Murong, Lingxin's body trembled even more violently, and she accidentally knocked over her teacup, making a crisp sound.

"This servant deserves to die, please forgive me, Madam!"

"What are you afraid of? I'm not going to eat you!"

Then she added, "I heard that the Prince is investigating who entered the Jade Bamboo Pavilion back then, and I vaguely thought I saw your figure that day!"

"Madam... you must be mistaken. I have been in Wangyue Pavilion the whole time and have not gone anywhere else!"

Liu Ye gently patted her hand and said, "Why panic? I won't tell anyone!"

"What does the lady mean?"

"It's nothing, I just wanted to let you know that I stand with you!"

After saying that, a ruthless smirk appeared on his lips as he smiled and left the Moon Gazing Pavilion.

Lingxin breathed a sigh of relief, only to realize that her back was soaked with sweat.

Ever since Ye Lisheng returned the imperial seal to the Celestial Master's Mansion, he has never had a moment of peace. People frequently sneak into the mansion, making his life unbearable.

He rubbed his forehead, looking exasperated, and asked, "Have you found him?"

Mo Sheng shook his head: "We didn't find a single trace!"

"Where could a perfectly healthy person go?"

"My subordinates report that the Eighth Prince disappeared after taking her body away that day!"

"Everyone should investigate this matter!"

"Yes, disciple obeys!"

Then, he changed the subject and said, "Prime Minister Su sent someone with a letter, saying he wants to have a detailed talk with you, Master!"

"This Prime Minister Su never deals with me, why would he come looking for me today!"

"Your disciple does not know!"

After leaving the Celestial Master's Mansion, he asked Mang Ji, "Is there any news?"

"No!" He paused, then added, "However, recently a young master named Liuyue has appeared in the city, and he has won the hearts of all the women there!"

"Liu Yue!" Mo Sheng said with a smile, "I understand. You can continue your investigation!"

"yes!"

Ye Lisheng's reddish-brown horse swaggered down the street.

On horseback sat a golden boy and a jade girl; the woman's light purple dress complemented his magnificent purple robes perfectly.

The two would sometimes talk with their heads down, and occasionally a smile would appear on their lips.

With a burning desire inside him and nowhere to vent it, he so quickly succumbed to the allure of another woman.

With a "bang!", I slammed the window shut.

His chest heaved violently as he gasped for breath.

"Young Master Liuyue!" The voice of the madam of Xinghua Tower rang out from outside.

I quickly composed myself and straightened my clothes.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw the madam's smiling face.

"Is there something wrong, Mom?" I asked in a low voice, trying to make my voice sound as rough as possible.

"You! Not only have you captivated the eyes of the young ladies in my Xinghua Pavilion, but even the young master has come here specifically to see you!"

As soon as I finished speaking, I couldn't help but feel a headache coming on. Ever since Yanran got into that Jia Daye incident, Xinghualou's business had been declining.

I was looking for a place to stay, and this is where I came up with the idea. It would allow me to find out about Ye Lisheng while avoiding running into him.
